Best Setup for DX900

Daniel Andreas

Recommended Posts

We are shooting a short film on two SDX900s with DigiPrimes.

The producers are hoping to be able to afford a Film-Out

-- although at this point we are not 100% certain that will happen.

Is there a setup that looks great both on a Film-Out as well as direct to DVD that is already on the CD-Rom?

Most of the scenes are interiors, some daylite, some tungsten.

If it has to be done manually:

Which Gamma is best?

Is FilmLike1 or FilmLike2 recommended?

Where should Master Ped, Black Stretch Level, Kneepoint, Kneeslope etc. be?

Where should the Horizontal DTL and Vertical DTL be?

What other settings need to be tweaked?

I assume the preferred Record Mode is 24PA ? Is that true even if we DONT go to film?

Should I shoot at -3dB gain or is there no advantage over shooting at 0dB?

What else do I need to look out for?

Greatful for any insight from anybody who has experience with setting up the SDX for Film-Outs

Hi,

This is something you should first discuss with the people who will be doing the film-out. They will have recommendations for the key settings and then you can try to take that into account when deciding on the look you're after.

Here's some info from a place that does film-outs:

I have already contacted Swiss Effects and should be getting an answer soon.

They are the BEST and I am friends with some top people there, but thanks anyway.

I am just looking for a DP who has done Film-Outs with SDX before, ideally through SwissFX or DuArt
