Bolex RX5 + Angenieux 5.9mm

Planning to shoot with a Bolex RX5 and Angenieux 5.9mm setup, however I am aware that the Angenieux will be soft if I were to shoot wide open due to the camera body being the reflex version. Am I right in thinking that I'll have no focus issues past f.8?

I have been reading about this a lot over the last week. I had always just assumed that because the fisheyes were vintage, that they were soft wide open. I have learned to work around it.

I've shot quite a bit with the Century 3.5mm and the Century 5.7mm. I recently bought another Century 5.7mm that covers Super 16mm. I This edit below has a lot with the 5.9mm and a few shots with the 3.5mm. I am fairly certain the last few shots in the video, starting at around 2:25, were shot at F4 - 5.6.

In my experience, the best fast wide lens is the Kern 10mm 1.6 RX.

Here is a few examples of the Century 5.9mm. The first frame is F11 on 50d. I believe this second frame is F2.8 or F3.5. I didn't use the footage because it was so soft. The difference is obviously night and day.

I think this was 3.5... Could have been 2.8.

I have shot alot of footage with my Bolex UltraPan8 2.8 R8 camera and Angenieux 5.9mm Retrofocus lens. Checkout my winter ice bike film where I pushed V3 200T 2 stops (800 ASA) in the lab. The resulting footage was not color-corrected in post regarding the rink (sodium?) lighting.  I shot wide open at T2.0/2.8. I think the Angenieux 5.9mm held up. No stabilization. I was skating with my Bolex and chasing cyclists. I would like to have this footage re-scanned at higher resolution and bit depth to bring out even more detail as the original scan was a 3.5 K image sequence 8-bit jpeg.

Kowa make machine vision lenses, no, don't laugh yet, designated for 1 inch digital sensors.

4.7mm and 6mm.

The latter covers Panasonic GH4 in video 16:9 mode completely, a crop factor of c. 2.3~2.4 to 135 format. S16 is c.2.7 crop. So should cover S16 as well. Not too expensive, in used condition. $400 or so.

The 4.7mm is unknown as to cover but should do nearly as well. Pricey.... 1,300+ new.

Ergonomics are awful, and contrast is modern. 100 lpmm and very low distortion.
