Premium Member Uli Meyer Posted January 30, 2021 Premium Member Share Posted January 30, 2021 Apologies if this has been discussed here before. I searched but couldn't find anything. Is it safe to mount Quasar Crossfade tubes in a Kino Flo fixture using the metal clamps? I know that one can customize the Kino Flo shell using the Q-block-T12 mounting clips but it is a lot easier to simply use the existing clamps. I just don't know how fragile the tubes are. The second question is what dimmer one can use with the Quasar Crossfade LEDs?
Premium Member Stephen Sanchez Posted January 30, 2021 Premium Member Share Posted January 30, 2021 I've mounted them in similar clamps on walls and such but not specifically a kino fixture. To compare, I've used cardelinis to hold them. You can feel the plastic buckle if you overtighten, but they still hold. And that's more pressure than the kino clamps. They'll work with any regular light dimmer, even the handmade ones from home despot.
Premium Member Joseph Tese Posted January 30, 2021 Premium Member Share Posted January 30, 2021 I used them in regular kino shells no problem. You can use any dimmer. For a quick and dirty and accessible dimmer, In my experience, lutron dimmers work the best. That being said, I have had multiple issues with dimming quasars with triac dimmers, such as random pulsing issues.
