Rigging when stands or wall spreaders cannot be used inside

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Had a thought and was curious to see if anyone had developed any solutions. Its quite possible there may be a shot where stands of any kind would be in frame, so the next reasonable consideration may be wall spreaders, but what if any two walls in the space are more than 16 feet apart so that Varipoles/Matthpoles cannot be used?

Some ideas I've had so far:

-A few ideas that I've taken into consideration so far are that 2x4/2x6 wall spreaders and speed rail wall spreaders may be able to support a reasonable amount of weight over 16 feet if they're cheeseboro'd/connected perpendicular at multiple points. But intuitively that seems to enter a point of diminishing return, and could also be incredibly heavy/time consuming/bend in center.

-Another thought is the use of suction cups, however, one major detriment is their unreliable hold on porous surfaces, and since drywall and interior paints are common in buildings, there's no guarantee of success.

-Also had an interesting thought to hide spreaders in plain sight, making them look like lolly columns or pillars that are natural to the surrounding environment, from there in theory you would cheeseboro/attach a wall spreader that could clear wall to wall with the spreaders from ceiling to floor as support. However, the variable in that solution would be the height between the ceiling and floor. Other variables would include coordination with the art department, and the assumption that you had time to look at the location beforehand to prepare the right materials to construct the column/pillar. Which unfortunately is not always the case.

Thank you to any recommendations or thoughts that everyone posts.

Best,

Sandro
