Premium Member Jeff Bernstein Posted April 29, 2023 Author Premium Member Share Posted April 29, 2023 The Dolly Zoom. The Player, 1:03:51. This iteration of the dolly zoom is engineered to continue this character's disorientation and anxiety during his search for his adversary. Premium Member Jeff Bernstein Posted April 29, 2023 Author Premium Member Share Posted April 29, 2023 Composition = Character The Player, 1:04:37. This character has just discovered something unexpected, but not threatening. Hence, his rising anxiety suddenly breaks, leaving a void in his bewildered head. He is now as destabilized as ever : hence, the wide black, representing the emptiness inside his mind (he has “no idea” what is going on); and his decentered position in the frame conveys his precarious foundation. Premium Member Jeff Bernstein Posted April 29, 2023 Author Premium Member Share Posted April 29, 2023 (edited) Blurred lines. The Player, 1:11:00. During the intentionally cheesy action sequence of protagonist vs. rattlesnake—a sequence seemingly imported from one of this man's own films—the audience sees the dolly grip visible as a reflection in the vehicle : intensifying the artificiality of the Situation. Premium Member Jeff Bernstein Posted April 30, 2023 Author Premium Member Share Posted April 30, 2023 "What is this, Iran?" The Player, 1:35:34. The absurd experience of a supercilious police force in a police station does this to a person. Your Humble Author's PSA : The police should act with more dignity than the people they haul in, in order to present a proper standard for the public to live up to. Instead, the police reinforce the worst in people. The police are more criminal than the criminals (certainly dumber, and far lazier), yet have the power of "it's policy" to hide behind while they mechanically process apparently non-human Beings in order to get a gold star on their files. TOP TIP : the threat of paperwork keeps the police from exerting effort. Q : Who is as lazy, and as much of a liar, and as idiotically arrogant, as your ordinary cop?
