Deniz Zagra
Is there way to replicate the high contrast wave effect they used in the opening credits of the movie? They might have used CGI, but it is also possible that they used a special type of cloth to create the ripple effect. I really have no idea, and couldn't find anything on the internet; the American Cinematographer article that was published right after the movie came out didn't mention it either. I'm going to try Geoff Boyle's method in the future (attached below); however, I'm not sure if it would create a similar effect. Is there anything else I can try?
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted February 28, 2023 Premium Member Share Posted February 28, 2023 Geoff's method is how they did it, it's a slow-motion shot of a pan of water reflecting a soft light. The texture of the ripples all depends on how you are agitating the water, the size of the water, and the frame rate of the camera. The shape of the reflection is a lighting issue. It's all very organic and hit-or-miss depending on all those factors, you just have to play with it. You can probably first try doing it using your iPhone shooting slow-motion for practice.
