Premium Member Uli Meyer Posted March 6, 2023 Premium Member Share Posted March 6, 2023 (edited) I recently shot a bit of footage with my Arriflex 2C 2perf and on two shots only there is s a flicker in the center of the image. I did use a mattebox but could this still be from light hitting the mirror at a funny angle? Edited March 6, 2023 by Uli Meyer
Premium Member Simon Wyss Posted March 6, 2023 Premium Member Share Posted March 6, 2023 That is possible. Questions that I’d want to answer with the camera before me: is the anti stray light baffle in place in front of the ground glass, are the aperture edges blackened, is the shutter rim blackened, is the lens’ mount rear matted? Hi Simon, the light baffle is in place Zeiss Standard prime 24mm MkII lens. I presume the edges are fine. where do I find the shutter rim? The mount of the lens? The camera was recently converted to 2perf by Daniil Nevsky and it does a beautiful job. I am just baffled by the two shots with the flicker, all other shots are perfect. Mark Dunn
There may be unsilvered glass on the edge of the shutter which could be blackened. Likewise the back of the lens barrel, if there are bare patches of metal. Techniscope home movies in Chalk Farm rock btw.
Premium Member Simon Wyss Posted March 6, 2023 Premium Member Share Posted March 6, 2023 Although you are a professional cameraman I must presume one last thing, light coming from the eyepiece. Hit?

That might be it! Thank you @Mark Dunnand @Simon Wyss!
Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted March 7, 2023 Premium Member Share Posted March 7, 2023 I would check inside the mirror cavity for any shiny metal surfaces that might be reflecting light onto the film, particularly around the gate area. Or a chipped edge of the mirror, or shiny hub etc.
Doug Palmer
It's strange though it happening with such a normal kind of shot ? Not against the light etc...

By the looks of it I'd say the sun is quite low and not far out of shot. Edited March 7, 2023 by Mark Dunn
