  1. Hi, Adam, Sustaining members have 24 hours to go back and edit a post. Basic members have a few minutes. If you need to make a correction, best practice is to add a reply to your post with the updated information.
  2. "New Topics" list is back on the home page, Macks. Speaking of "Filmvorführerforum", Simon, the old forum database could not deal with foreign character encoding. Any attempt at using an umlaut, accent, Latin letters, etc wouldn't work. The new software is UTF-8 and can deal with that stuff. It is a fair amount of work keeping the forums running, but it's not too bad. It's the stress of making sure it's always available that has given me gray hairs. To me those are two different things. Fortunately the more mature the software gets, the easier it is to maintain once the kinks are worked out. Rarely do I get the opportunity to go off-grid for more than a day or two though. I'll see what I can do about the layout, Tyler and Phil. I'll be making adjustments this week to try different things.
  3. Ha! You'll get used to it. I agree this default layout is a bit, err, different. I liked the old design too, which is why I waited three years to finally update the software to the new version. On the upside... It's way more secure and a lot faster. It works better on mobile devices, and has many new features that make it easier to use after a little practice.
  4. I'm pretty sure the now-suspended user is a troll. His signature claims "NYC AC" but his IP resolves to Bogota, Columbia. Post have been removed. Carry on.
  5. Meet the Gaffer is a worthy YouTube series produced by veteran Los Angeles gaffer Luke Seerveld. Lots of helpful content.

  9. The Project Vermont Team set out to solve one of the most well-known optical issues in conventional photography: field curvature. Field curvature exists because lenses don’t want to focus on a plane. A lens delivers sharpest focus along a curved path, rather than on a flat sensor. The result: objects appear out of focus across the image. By curving the focal surface, we eliminate the need for the lens to address field curvature and can use the resulting optical design freedom to improve other aspects of the system. Specifically, we can improve resolution, light-gathering capability, lateral chromatic aberration, distortion and illumination uniformity while also reducing system size, complexity and cost. 11. Zylight, a leading manufacturer and distributor of innovative LED lighting solutions, today announced its Winter White Sale, which offers reduced prices on versions of its F8-100 LED Fresnel and IS3c large panel light in white finishes through Feb. 28, 2017. Designed for special architectural and staging applications, the lights blend into light ceilings better than black fixtures, or can be used to stand out from dark surroundings. “For a lot of churches and conference rooms, white lighting fixtures are more aesthetically pleasing than the traditional professional black fixtures,” said Charlie Collias, Zylight senior vice president of worldwide sales. “Our Winter White Sale is a great opportunity for these facilities to invest in reliable, energy saving LED technology with fixtures that are as beautiful as their light output.” Available in tungsten (3200K) or daylight (5600K), the F8-100 maintains traditional single shadow Fresnel beam shaping with an eight-inch glass lens, and offers an adjustable beam spread (16-70 degrees) and variable spot/flood operations. For easy transport and storage, the “Flat Fresnel” collapses to less than four inches thick, and is finished in white and brushed aluminum. The fully dimmable IS3c is a wide, high-output soft light with built-in controls for adjusting color temperature and color correction. It also features Zylight’s Color Mode, which produces millions of colors without gels or filters, and can ship with an optional Chimera or DOP Choice soft box. Both the F8-100 and IS3 feature DMX control and ZyLink™ wireless technology, which makes it easy to link multiple Zylights for simultaneous remote control. During the sale, the white versions of the F8-100 are priced at $1,999, while the IS3 with white finish is priced at $2,099 (with soft box for an additional $249). Lights can be purchased through any of Zylight’s authorized dealers worldwide. Details on the Winter White Sale are available here. http://www.zylight.com
  12. Good news, but remember, it's only got 7 stops of exposure latitude. Time to dust off the light meters! http://motion.kodak.com/KodakGCG/uploadedfiles/motion/TI2496.pdf

  15. If you find a truly good deal on film making equipment available from reputable retailers, post it here.
  16. The "My Content" search in Profile is designed to only show the last six months worth of a member's posts. Click it and then look at the fine print under "Your Name's Content". Its says: There have been xx items by Your Name (Search limited from [date six months ago])
  17. I have not been removing old posts. The forum's search feature is pretty lame, I agree. If you click the gear icon to the right of the search field on the top right of the forum you'll access the advanced search features. There are options to search by date ranges but the Date selector is cumbersome. It's easier to just type a xx/xx/xx date in the Find by Date field. As other have suggested Google can be directed to search just this site: https://www.google.com/search?q=site:cinematography.com+FILM
  18. Buy & Sell in the Cinematography.com Marketplace at your Own Risk. Cinematography.com does not check, validate or warrant any information posted in this forum. If the price is too good to be true, it probably is. If you are considering buying from a forum member, please please please do some research and make sure they are who they say they are before you send anyone funds, even if they are a long-time forum member. A long time member's account may have been compromised by an impostor. Any legitimate seller or buyer will be happy to provide you with real information. Scammers typically just try to make the sale quickly without answering any complicated questions. Don't rush it. No item images in the post? Don't consider buying. The lack of images in the post means the seller is hiding something. It's easier to catch a fraudulent seller when everybody can see the item for sale and possibly recognize the photos. If the seller emails the photos only the potential buyer sees them. Call the person on the phone and talk in detail about the item and transaction details. Make sure they know what they're talking about. If they're the seller, have them immediately text you photos of the item that you can tell are current. Ask them to pose in the picture. Bank funds transfers do not offer protection! Once you send the money you cannot get it back. Use a payment method that includes fraud protection. Don't use PayPal's "Gift" option which does not offer any protection. Western Union's Fraud Notice is helpful. Read it: Don’t send money to someone you haven’t met in person. Be suspicious of businesses without a verified street address. Don’t pay for an item or service with a money transfer to an individual. Change your forum password. Use the forum's Two Factor Authentication feature. This protects your account from being compromised. If you receive an email that looks like it's from Cinematography.com, make sure the web links in the email are exactly Cinematography.com, not something similar. Scammers can make a web site that looks just like Cinematography.com but is a fake. If you log in to their fake forum, they'll have your real forum login and can hack your account here on the real forum. If you are tricked into clicking the link the scammer will steal your forum login, change your forum password and email address, and impersonate you in the forum. They will use your account to send out fake login emails to other forum members and try to hack their accounts too. Buy & Sell in the Cinematography.com Marketplace at your Own Risk. 19. I've changed the topic title for you, George. :)
  20. I was also thinking about property loss or damage. If both the owner and renter are insured for property damage then in the event of catastrophe (i.e. a camera gets submerged) wouldn't the renter/production company insurance cover the loss and then the equipment owner's property insurance rates would not be affected?
