  1. Hello all, I am selling my Don Earl Locking Frontbox which I bought around December and used only twice before I bought a new custom front box from a friend of mine who has recently begun manufacturing them in Virgina Beach, VA. WWW.CUSTOMFRONTBOX.COM <check them out he's a great craftsman who puts a lot of care into each box. (this doesn't violate the no businesses post rule right?) Anyways, if that didn't take all the interest away from this Don Earl Box I'm selling mine for $180, even though I paid $286 at Filmtools in Burbank for it. The only thing that I have added to this box is a strip of soft side on the camera left side of the box. I live in North Hollywood, so if someone in LA would like to buy it give me a call, or send me an email. If anyone outside of LA would like to purchase it, still give me a call and we'll work out all of the shipping information. Shoot me an email if you would like to see any additional photos of the box. ph. 704.214.2007 em. mattcabinum@gmail.com
  2. I'm looking at buying a cheap little (3"-7") LCD monitor for my kit. I've only seen Steadicam Op's use them to record video for their own viewing. I would like to have it so that I can view the exact frame if I'm pulling remotely, as I work on a lot of projects with improvisational directors and DP's. My problem is that I don't know exactly what specs to look for. I'm sure that SD transmitters such as the Modulus will work with any monitor that can pick up an analog signal, but how about the new HD transmitters. Will I be able to receive the HD signal, even if it's down converted to the size of the monitor. Again, the only thing the monitor is needed for is to confirm the frame when i'm pulling, so the quality doesn't matter that much, more so battery life, and the ability to pick up signals from wireless transmitters. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks all!
  3. Does anyone know of a place where I could find the photometric data for Litepanels "Ringlite Cinema"? Also the truck is going to be dropped off and I won't be able to do a proper checkout and was curious as to if anyone had any info on how to set it up. From the photo's I've seen it looks easy enough (mounts onto the rails of the camera) but I just want to be sure when I get there. Any information on this would be huge! Thanks everyone!
  4. Thanks everyone Velcro seems to be the way to go. Ryan, Thanks for posting that link, probably going to pick up one of those on the next "rain" shoot.
  5. I was 2nding on a feature where one particular scene took place in the pouring rain and writing on the slates became a bit of a problem. The Dry Erase died immediately and the sharpie wouldn't stay on either, nor would the vis a vis marker, or the white gaff with sharpie on it. Just wondering if anyone knew of a good way to slate in the rain, or any place with lots of moisture.
  6. Does anyone know who makes the Red Digital Cinema Pro Prime lenses. I haven't seen these out in the field before. The only time I used them was for a seminar about a year ago, and there was some debate as to makes them, because they were fairly new at the time and RED wasn't saying who made them. I was saying Sigma because frankly they feel so light and the coating is that brownish, yellow which looks like the Sigma zooms that come with those Canon DSLR packages. But does anyone have a link to a site that explains it or any type of information? Just curious to know. Thanks all!
  7. Anyone know where you can get a rabone? I've found a few on ebay but they're all pretty beat up. I'm at a loss here, I love the feel of them and I'm just tired of the sharp hooks on the end of my fiberglass.
  8. I am an AC that is starting off and the majority of my work comes from music videos right now. Is there anything online or off that verifies these credentials? Recently I tried to register with the Film Commission in my state and they said they could not verify my credentials, my guess was that this was because there's really no credits published with these videos when they air other than the director and artist. I know that the majority of jobs will and do come from those that I meet but I'm about to move to LA and will be landing with lots of time spent on music videos and I'm worried about what will happen when people in LA want a resume and most of my credits will be from music videos. If there is anyone who's line of work consists mostly of the same, I would really appreciate some suggestions. Thanks all-
  9. Recently an AC friend of mine decided to get rid of his Mark II DOF calculator. I took it off his hands but now my only problem is that I don't have any literature on it. I know how to use the calculator itself but I'm not completely familiar with all of the tables on the back. Does anyone know where you can get a Mark II DOF calculator manual?? Thanks everyone! -Matt Cabinum
  10. Does anyone have any knowledge on how to get a flouresent fixture to flicker. Not a pulsing or a strobe but a completely random flicker. I have to get the fixture to do this while being in the shot. Does anyone know of any household rigs that can be used or any commercial rigs that can be used. I have heard people say that loosening the bulbs should work but that is not controllable. I am looking for control over the flicker while keeping it completely random. Any and all suggestions would be extremely benificial. Thank you for your help!
  11. I am shooting for an entire weekend that takes place mostly at night inside an apartment with white walls. I am mainly lighting directly from practicals. (Hiking up the fixture so that it will expose my subjects) I'm also shooting Fuji Eterna 250T (8653). Any ideas on how to keep that bounce down? I'm at a loss and the location is locked and cannot be changed because of a varitey of reasons. Please help! -Matt
  12. I am planning on doing a project on 16mm in the near future in which I plan to use cross processing, and I was wondering if anyone knew how to light for it. I've heard stories about how cross processed shows have over lit and after it was processed the highlights went nuclear. Should I mute the highlights or is this just a myth. How much do my colors change? Any suggestions on stocks? I'm running on a very low budget here and can't quite afford to give 100 different stocks a run before I choose, so I would like to hear any feedback from those of you who've given different stocks a try. Any and all comments are welcome or even links. Thanks again!
  13. Does anyone have any suggestions about getting a really contrasty look on the DVX 100A? I would like to try to get it IN camera instead of in post because I don't won't to degrade my image. Anyone know of any in-camera settings that give you a more contrasted look? I'm looking for any solutions here so any suggestions will help. Thanks!
