  1. Towards the end of the 80s more H's were made. It is the newer model. C was the "studio" cam and H was the "location" cam, I believe. Oh, there is a C available at rafcam. Maybe Olex can chime in with a more accurate answer. -Jonnie
  2. With all these strikes it's a wonder films get made at all in France... :( This is the second in five months, right? Oh, well. Good luck with the wage fight. Hope you're back on a set soon... -Jonnie
  3. Good filmmaker, Tarr. I read an interview where he said the limits of stock length is a form of censorship. Not intellectual, but "form" censorship. Gotta love this guy... Ya, Satantango is a good one. Somehow he manages to keep the "pretentious" out of his work. I say this because a lot of work that is built on the long take comes off this way, to me at least. Wish I could see it on actual film...lucky. -Jonnie
  4. most of this film is shot in 16....cropped to 2.35..... if you really want to see shocking, try watching italian zombie films from the 70s.. or necromantic, any german underground with "necro-" in the title.... :o oh, yeah, this film has been discussed here before. so use the search function if nobody else chimes in, or if lav gets too busy. :)
  5. Matt Urhys site has a commercial he shot with lomo anamorphics. Its the second to last, Smirnoff. Looks nice. I think they are the round front but he'd have to tell you. He has a few things shot with the Konvas on his site... Hope this helps... -Jonnie http://www.fuzby.com/commercials.html
  6. http://www.geocities.com/russiancamera/index.htm http://konvas.org/ http://www.commiecam.com/ Hope these help.... -Jonnie Edit oooopps. you've been to these already....sorry.
  7. Yeah 2-perf is great with me. With the digital age in full swing it makes more sense than ever. JB- Besides the Leone films, the Italian giallo's were almost entirely shot 2-perf! I've seen many cleaned-up versions and they look fantastic!!! Check 'em out if you like that kind of film. All those old 2-perf films still look fantastic, and with the stocks of today.....wow... 2.35:1 aspect ratio, 1/2 the stock/process cost, great picture quality, 21st century post, newer optics, newer emulsions, who could ask for more? Well, er....my point is film still rocks the Casbah! I'm loving all this 2-perf news.....Bruce is doing 2-perf for KINOR as well as ARRI, the PENELOPE is only a year away,(not that I'll ever own one..) ....happiness abounds on these webpages, it's just great. I figure I can get a Kinor package, the 5000 motor, and the 2-perf upgrade for about $12,000. That would be one mean, independent SOB! Hopefully this time next year....I was going for a really nice 16 job, but how can I now? It'll take a little longer, but worth it. Paul, good luck with this transfer facility! Keep us posted. -Jonnie
  8. I think Trevor is speaking to the point that ICH is known for posting "questionable" material to get their point across.....just like CNN and FOXNews, which they claim to balance against. Remember when they posted those fake photos from Lebonon during Isreals incursion? That same lady was in a whole lotta places at the same time...etc,etc. Also, ICH didn't post the video of the Hezbollah guys prepping a site with "dead" victims for the TV cameras operated by, hmmm, THEMSELVES(later to be distributed as real news and found out later when Isrealis got ahold of the tapes in whole), so they definetly push one monolthic agenda. "ok, now you stay here and pull some of that trash over your body, good now you go lay on that cotand cry for mommy..." They push want they want, they sell what they want, JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. Just take a look at their links and you'll know how bent they are. I don't really care, it's a free web, but you can't say they are "fair and balanced", that would be a laugher! A real hoot! This vid looks legit to me, who knows...he gave up the water, I don't think he meant for the others kids standing on the sidewalk to take it. Besides the video starts out in a funny place. Maybe they were handing out water before the clip starts to most of the kids and just ran out, then the prick held out his last bottle to entertain himself...? Who knows? Thats why posting about this is a waste of time.....oops! I fell for it! Damn! Why was I here today..? oh yeah, film....poop!
  9. He made good films...and kept making them right up till his death. Never "retired". I love that in an artist... Bye, Altman.
  10. The CONAN theme is classic! All his work is great....many foriegn born composers whom do work for lesser/middle budget american films are forgotten, sadly....Pino Danoggio is another overlooked great. I digress... Anyway, thanks for letting us know. Sad news indeed. But, we'll always have his classic scores and for that, I thank him.
  11. WOW! Congradulations! If that is the worst movie you've ever seen, it is truely a blessed life you live...Prepositional phrase, oh well. You should try and sit through some of the crap we've seen... BTW, I'm gonna check out INCHON. Great LC!
  12. LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT or MONSTERS CRASH THE PAJAMA PARTY come to mind...although the latter is at least funny....LHotL is just plain bad taste. -Jonnie
  13. Beautiful camera. If film is dead why are they still making new cameras....? Ok, I don't want to start that discussion, just having a little jab! I found this little site and thought maybe some of you haven't seen it yet. Good little article with some info/commentary about said camera, no price range. I did see that it is supposedly scheduled for a sept. '07 date....? True? I can't find where I got that info from...Anyway, here is a link. There looks to be two different protos in pics... http://www.fsfsweden.se/index.php/arkiv/co...aaton_penelope/ -Jonnie
  14. Yeah, I liked that too....but I thought there was a cut with every passing of the light....am I confusing? Kind of like mini jump cuts, like they were driving awhile, passing of time slightly... Here is my quote from the first reply: "The editing during the drive was nice, I see what you were doing there." Who cares, it was convincing and that is all that matters. Pumped to see your 16mm! Keep us up to date with it when the time comes. I wouldn't even mind seeing daily journals on the "In Production" thread. Keep us informed....I'll be looking for your future posts. Oh, I almost forgot! David, have you seen the movie "Feast"? It was that Project Greenlight thing? It is coming out on DVD and I was wondering what your thoughts were on it... -Jonnie
  15. Sweet! post again when you're finished, I'd like to see it. If it is strictly a wildlife bio film I understand your limits. But if you want to make a nice pictorial doc, it could be done with your xl2. Just remember, we as the audience can only know about the beautiful environment if you show it to us. We only know what we are shown. Good luck! -Jonnie
  16. I couldn't see poop after they got into the car most of the time. The coverage in the diner was too much. Also the framing....too quickly composed maybe? The editing during the drive was nice, I see what you were doing there. Other than that.....I can tell you this. That dude you have there, keep working with him. You may have found yourself a diamond in the ruff/rough. Excellent voice....I could feel restrained nuances in his 'almost' jestures, like with his hands in the diner. He could be a natural. Get him a haircut. Let him loose to see what he can do and then reel him back in to polish up. He seemed pretty comfortable with himself. With someone like that, you need to work with him and keep the camera on him. The girl is not a natural but she did a nice job, put out a nice effort. This is what friends do. I know you like the thriller/horror stuff just from being a member here and seeing your other posts. I dig it. I grew up watching the same stuff as you probably. IMHO, you should def stick in this 'vein' while learning. It seems natural for you. And I'm telling you, that guy should have roles in your future flicks. Get a little stable going with him and some other talents, like sound guys etc. Even if they aren't 'in to film'. That guy could surely fill the "suave-killer" role....write for him. He's like a cross of Durmont Mulroney and Jeff Kober. All in all, you did this on a whim. It's what I call a "sketch". Like a doodle. A fine doodle it is. You never waste time practicing like this. It would be like telling picasso to stop drawing on paper napkins at the cafe! Keep on it! -Jonnie
  17. there are basically 5 shots in this. the 3rd one is way too long and made me want stop watching. in other words it was boring. 4 min. felt like 20. i'm talking about coverage, here. but you were all by your lonesome, correct? and very far away...not too much you can do to save this i'm affraid. instead, get a friend or two together with their videocameras so you can get more coverage. go to your nearest park/reserve/camping destination and you'll have much more to film. editing this for four min. length will be much better. birds in trees, turtles in the pond, rabbits in the feild, snakes, deer, etc.......all in one place. every state has these types of destinations. i'm from Texas so maybe i'm spoiled? oh, next time you are in yellowstone and shoot a nature vid you best get a nice wide shot inside the park to show off the scene.....waste of a natural 'set'. never waste an oppertunity like that again. you shoot video so there is never an excuse to have so little footage, even for 4 min. best-Jonnie
  18. Word. Everyone is so serious these days. It also seems that anything can "offend" anybody at any given time. Very PC culture. Of course anti-semetic remarks are something I can't tolerate. So he was drunk. I guess if I get drunk or stoned and go anal rape some pregnant chick I have a good excuse...? Of course not. That is extreme but so is racisism, don't forget. And, trust me, the media shitstorm would have been way worse if he had said, say, "n****r". As much as people talked about it, anti-semetism won't kill a career. Mel has racist tendencies I would say are beyond "unfortunate remarks". That is PR talking.... Its not like he said "bitch" and has to say sorry to femmenist across the world. He is getting off way easy, but he has also done all the right things regarding apologies and such. I think he knows these 'feelings' regarding Jews as a whole are something he needs to work on, it is a legit apology. Anyway back to the film....yeah, pumped to see it. I think he is a very talented filmmaker who doesn't get the credit he should because of Passion. IMHO, expressed strong religious beliefs are not too popular among hollywood peeps. (who are they anyway? :) ) I am hopeful that it will be his best film. I think Mel is going to take an artistic "jump" in his work. At least thats my feeling....
  19. I saw that awhile back in EW magazine. Funny stuff. Mel is one funny anti-semetic dude! J/K! He looks insane, like he's on cocain or something.....hehehe. Gotta love Mel.
  20. I am also pumped. Count me in for tickets. Passion was good stuff for what it was. This film being about the Maya culture is also a plus for me. I've read "Letters from Mexico" by Cortez among other books. I love the history.
