  1. Tim, you're probably the nicest admin on the whole friggin internet. Most would've dropped these folks by now. But sometimes the simple rules are the hardest to follow for some people..... This is a very open forum, free speech, the whole deal. So enough of the rationalizations...Just follow the rules. I wanna be called "Neck-Bone" but I can't. This sometimes gets to me, it makes me sad. But then I realize there are rules for reasons...
  2. No, I want to see it too. It's just so bizarre, that way of dying. It's only human. Don't feel bad.
  3. Very good point. That fact escaped me...still, at $13 a disc I'm inclined to purchase. Also, the resale value might not drop off too terribly if they do release a HD version in the near future. Who knows? It's a tough call...for me at least. I don't yet own a new HD tele, I'm waiting another year or two for something I really like to hit. I've seen it all from Plasma to LCD and it feels like the technology just isn't "there" yet. The qaulity is a world away from my projection but picking a new HD tele is a very big deal. I plan on getting a 50"....research, research, research. If they do actually release a HD version in the future maybe it would have extras and such...? Hmmm. Now I feel like a little girl who can't make up her mind... :)
  4. Here is a link to the best box set ever....IMHO. http://store.prostores.com/servlet/criterionco/Detail?no=31 If you pre-order the price will be $200 less than MSRP. $650 compared to $850. I'm thinkin' real hard about this one as I do not own most of the 50 DVDs in the set. It boils down to about $13 per DVD... Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know it was coming if you care... -Jonnie
  5. Triumph Des Willens (Documentary? Maybe not, but thats what it was made to "look" like. No less a Doc than many M. Moore films) Still one of the best examples of telephoto lenswork ever! One of the best films ever, if you can overlook the whole Hitler thing... :)
  6. Its hard to find info on these.... and they always seem to be sold in pairs.(?) WTF? They also seem a little cheap for what they are....hmm ;) I'd also like to know what other members have to say on the matter.
  7. poo on the kubrick estate, then. I bet everyone on this board would fork over the dough for a killer boxed set... is there some kind of petition for this? anyone have Christaine Kubricks email? J/K
  8. Countrys/states also put up finishing money. Or gaurantor money...whatever its called. New Mexico put up 7 million bucks for "SUSPECT ZERO", for example. Whats going on with Cruise/Wagner right this moment may well change a lot of things regarding financing in Hollywood.
  9. No, the Jackson thing happened a year or two ago. EWS came out in '99. The digi-charachters in the orgy scene looked like cardboard cut-outs, thats why it ruins the scene. During the passes of these cut-outs you can see it was a poop job of cgi. They don't even look 3-d. If I'm thinking this during the film, well, that is a crappy experience. Do they even have shadows? The lighting didn't cast hard shadows but,...I'm going to look now. Just release the damn thing on dvd unedited.Crap!! I saw it 4 times in the theatre, love it. One of his best. Cruise was badass. The "revelation" scene between Tom and Nic was pure Kubrick, fantastic. Oh,err, I weant off on a tangent. As far as the cut we all know and love of THE SHINING, I agree. I just want all the other crap to look at. "crap" being a scientific term, of course. :) All the cuts we grew up with, regarding Kubrick films, are the best. Seeing everything else is just fun and gives insight to the process...
  10. His argumentative style was that of constant "devils advocate". That is the way of children.... He knew his stuff, to be sure, however his ego got the best of him. Ego should ride shotgun to pride, not the other way around,IMHO. (does that make any sense at all? Hmmm.... ) I'd also like to remind everyone that he left of his own accord. Again, he couldn't swallow enough pride to admit that certain things he did on this forum "offended" people, or was just downright sociably unexcusable. I for one was not offended by the japanazoom crack, it was his ardent view that it was not racially biased. Of course it was, but that doens't mean he is wrong. What makes him wrong is the fact he didn't acknowledge others feelings toward it on an open forum. As far as I know (not much) he is welcome to relist as long as he follows the same rules everyone else does... Heck, I'd probably learn a whole lot more regarding super8. I know I would. The ball has always been in his court...
  11. ...the smaller our "footprint", the happier Earth is... Earth is a permanent uterus for humans. We need to treat it that way 'cause we'll never leave. Blah, blah, blah,...I know. I think ELF is a terror group but we need to start thinking of the future, BIGTIME! So....I agree with Boddington. BUT, I'd hire people no matter political inclination. Unless it was a person who couldn't shut up. You know the types....People who let you know what "side" they're on unsolicited. It's the "unsolicited" part I can't stand.
  12. Huh.. I've seen everything but the hospital visit by Ullman. Hmmm. I don't get it. I grew up watching a VHS version that has all the dialogue stuff, like the use of the "N" word between the two in the restroom, and the intitial "interview" dialogue......but no Ullman visit to the hospital. Everytime I see it on TV it has those scenes as well.... Why don't they finally release a decent boxed set of Kubrick? The Warner Bros. films, at least ? Crap, man!!! Kubricks' film deserve it more than many, many others who get the redcarpet treatment for dvd and it's absolute SCHLOCK!!! This disheartens me greatly...I need a good boxed set. Damn.
  13. Both sides can get so looney that they actually meet each other on the dark side of the moon... Radicalism sucks, no matter your politics. :)
  14. This will be interesting on many different levels... I don't like "reality" shows very much, but this will make for "good" TV. I believe that every human has a little bigot in them deep, deep down, and this will bring it out with the prodding of TV producers...Its only human, and then on top of that, having a competition with a clear and embraced division of race. Its actually kinda sick.. This show will heighten hidden potential for hysteria by all the competitors, IMHO. I'm not going to watch the entire season but this demands at least one viewing...again, its only human to look at a train wreck.
  15. I did make-up on a no-budget film using a 16bl and shot maybe 1500 frames through it, but I've not used it to the point that I should hand out advice about its particulars... Look down about three threads in this topic. "Help me pick a cam", there is info on the 16bl by many members who have shot with it and know its pros/cons.
  16. BRICK is now on DVD, with extras...supposedly. It was shot 35mm. I don't know this as "fact", but i did see the film and my eyes tell me its 35mm. :) It is a good film, however some peeps around me hyped it a bit much. For some reason I expected a masterpiece or something. Not that I was expecting to see a film that introduces new film grammar, it was just too hyped by some. But it is very good and a film you could watch more than two or three times. Rian "whats 'is name", the director, did a fine job. Joseph-Gordon Levit(?) is becoming a very good actor... The photography and sound design are used to enhance the story, unlike some hollywood films that just produce "pretty" images.
  17. ok, I'm a jerk... hope you found the links helpful.... :D
  18. It took me about 5 seconds to find this on the internet.... http://www.indyfilm.com/download.htm and here is some more info.... http://www.cinematechnic.com/resources/arri_16bl.html You should try this magical thing called a search engine sometime... :D
  19. "SNAKES ON A PLANE",..and people on this site actually got mad at my comments on the "mass" moviegoing american public...yes I used pejorative terms but c'mon! SNAKES!!! ON A PLANE!!! OK, japanese gameshows are crazy, but this.....this is too much. These are the movies popcorn was meant for. I may have to go see this one...too crazy to pass up. Oh,yeah! I vote for "SHARKS ON A PLANE" and "DICK CHENEY ON A PLANE" This has franchise written all over it! I think you should write a couple treatments... BTW, anyone know how much the script went for? I really want to know. Thanks.
  20. ;) Yeah, che was great. My favorite part of his life must have been his little trip to the USSR to get nukes pointed at the USA. Even the soviets thought he was crazy untill castro stepped in to assuage khrushchevs fears of a button pusher...despite his charm, "travel" diary, and heart warming letters to his children, he is still a killer who relished the job of murdering batista family children. SICK NUT. If you think GITMO is bad maybe you should read a little about che's prisons.... oh, the pic still looks legit to me...
  21. Bubba seems to be 21st century U.N material. They wouldn't skip a beat with him as secretary. And he'd have access to "international" BJ's. Kofi needs to go. Seriously, Bill would do a better job, IMHO. As far as the world loving us again, who cares? Obviously not most Americans. If we wanted a poster boy, Kerry would have won, I think. Right, wrong, or indifferent, our "standing" with Joe Europe, Joe Canada, Joe Arab, Joe Asia, doesn't rank as #1 on our list of potential presidents. I don't think any country should hire a leader for the SOUL purpose of "likability", not that anyone is saying such. We just screwed ourselves on this one. Hopefully only this one. We should be back in line with the rest of the world in two years. Ineffective, hot-air politicians that don't do too much and avoid controversy. We'll all be playing "footsy" under the table in no time, all the while people in the Darfur region being massacred....They're muslim! Where is the muslim moral outrage? 1000 dead in Lebanon, ok. Oh, yeah! These people are black! I forgot, we don't care about them. ......the world makes me sick. Are there any good leaders out there? .....Bueler?.... :)
  22. Why so mad? Do your parents drink? Drinkin ain't so bad! I love it. Can't go to work without it, can't go to sleep without it! Wait. You're 15, right? Yea, you may want to wait a year or so.... :) ps-I'm kidding, of course.
  23. Richard, you must love to start poop! I love your posts. I think you've become my favorite poster.Great sense of humor... :D Global Warming and Taxes! I love it! :D The whole gift basket thing is insane and I'd like to think everyone agrees on this. But going after them is just a waste of time, resorces, and ....well, it's just plain dumb. How is a diamond necklace or foriegn perfume a source of income? It's not like our senators being taken to "lunch" by all kinds of slime-ball lobbyist!! It's just another way to pay for advertising ..... Find another way to help pay for the war, President Bush.... :P
  24. If you guys are talking about "THE COMPLETE DOSSIER", forget buying it unless you need the extras as a fan. The first halves of both versions are on disc one, the last halves on disc two. WTF is the matter with people!!!!? WHY????????!!!!  !!!!!!!???  ????? It pisses me off in ways I've never felt before. Remember the first version of "GOODFELLAS" that was split on both sides of the same disc? Even more annoying. The best version is still the original 1999(?) DVD release. What's the matter with FFC? I love his work dearly but lately he has missed the mark... "THE OUTSIDERS: THE COMPLETE NOVEL". Mr. Coppola why did you ruin some of the best scenes with new music? UNWATCHABLE!!!     You could have issued both versions together, athlough you and Paramount probably would've screwed it up!!!! Woo! Huh...OK! I'm better now...At least you didn't f*ck "RUMBLE FISH" up, and for this I thank you. Please Mr. Coppola, Francis, stop pissing on your old films. I know they "belong" to you but you're f*cking with my childhood, man! Oh, yeah. Same transfers.
