  1. So this article is quite old, but I found this hilarious I thought others might as well. It is written by Blair Erickson who apparently worked on writing Alone in the Dark. Here it is, quite short: http://www.somethingawful.com/d/feature-ar...-scenes-uwe.php I recommend the trailer for Sanctimony... I also did a quick search for "Uwe Boll" on the forum so I did not repost anything which gave me three hits, one of them being "What's the worst movie you've ever seen?". Anyways, even I who've had a very limited experience with film production have actually been lucky enough to experience a director with even less perception of how his work would be interpreted.
  2. Uhm, I never said I was looking for something free? But I do believe that there are differences between labs in price (and thus outcome...) and that's really what I'm looking for; some information about labs that might be able to give me a student discount, or just cheap but good labs. I would also like to drive a Ferrari, but I'd be very happy driving a Mercedes or BMW. Scott, I suppose I don't HAVE to deliver in HD... so I will definatley look into the DigiBeta. I have worked on some HD raw material (from the HVX-200) and have always thought that I can get away with a lot more if I have it in HD all the way to the last step when I do rotowork. But then I have never worked with DigiBeta material (only MiniDV). Do you have a short clip (1-2 seconds) with motion that I could try to work on just to see what it's like? I would really appreciate it! Ryan, will send you an e-mail right now. Thanks again for your time and answers!
  3. Thank you both for your answers! I have been thinking of SpyPost but my teacher says their rates are quite high, but I will definately ask them of course. My guess is that I won't be able to afford it though. PWNY sounds very interesting as well... I guess I'm out of date but I don't really know what D5 HD is... Wikipedia/google, here I come! I will surely e-mail you Michael, to check what your experience has been. Pics would be lovely! /Jonathan.
  4. Okay, so I have read the article "Bonolabs vs. Spypost" ( http://www.cinematography.net/digitk/digitk.htm ) and tried to look around for other places where I can transfer some 2000ft of 35mm film that I will be shooting for a student short in a month or two. The reason for an HD transfer is the post-production work which there will be a lot of as we can't afford huge green screens on location etc. And doing roto on MiniDV material is not one of my favorites and the post people that will work on this agree as well. Anyway, Bonolabs seem to have a student friendly price for HD transferns but I am very much afraid of the results shown in the article. So, does anyone know a place where I can get an HD (preferably DVCPro or better, I suppose) to Harddrive transfer as cheap as possible? Or, do you know of better workflows for a post-heavy project? Thanks a lot for your time, and if there is a thread about this somewhere, please let me know where to read! (A link about the different HD codecs would be nice as well... I have this far only worked with DVCPro... are there better alternatives that computers that aren't the highest of high-end computers can handle? ) Thanks again! /Jonathan.
  5. I would have to emphasize what zaefod said... Make sure to have the workflow figured out before you start shooting. I shot a student short with the HVX200+Mini35 and a lot of work and manpower was spent on copying the cards and backing them up. Be sure to have at least one set of harddrives used for backup only. When a HD dies there is no tape to go back to... We used two setups of two 400gig harddrives for backup only... Maybe 2 backups was a bit to much, but then you never know. The Camera setup was great though! :)
  6. Allright, I guess I'll give it a try. Aren't first time filmmakeras always broke? ;)
  7. Heh, so I made my first light... which seems to work pretty nicely. Don't know how good it is for color photography but it seems allright. Now, I have been reading a few posts on the internet about which lights that are the bests... and I've been looking to get tubes with the best CRI and Ballasts with the best "Ballast Factor" but when I got to Home Depot I can't seem to find a lot of tubes... they have a lot of ballasts though, which is good.. OSH os pretty much the same thing... I live SJ/SF and was wondering if anyone knows of stores that have a greater supply of both lights and ballasts. Thanks!
  8. I don't know if it's relevant... but when I shot with the HVX+mini35 I felt that the mini35 softened the image a little. Maybe that was just us not configurating the adaptor correctly...
  9. Right, I'll read about the flickering as I've seen posts about that on here before. Thanks for the help!
  10. Hi there, I would like to experiment with a free flourescent light... with free I mean like the tube Gary Oldman dances with in Tony Scott's Beat the Devil. I am not planning to actually have anyone touch the light, but what I want is a flourescent tube free... I have worked with kinoflo's when I've been helping out with some gaffing but I am a poor (international) student in the US, so I am simply wondering what I have to buy and where I can buy it as cheap as possible. You'll have to excuse my english and if you don't understand what I mean then here is a link: Beat the Devil Screenshot I will not be shooting this in color, so a discontinous spectra is not really a problem (right?). Grateful for answers! /The Swede lost in US.
