I find it hard to rate people.

i haven't met him, but i think he's contected in some way to T8 Technology.

think of the way lenses work. the image is spread consistently to a 35mm negative behind the lens. in front of the lens, the angle of coverage changes due to the lens angle of view. so... if you use the same net filter in front of various lenses, you are photographing through a different amount of thread strands. amistad was photographed using behind the lens netting. all the others were in front. watch the films and you can easily see the differences if you study the different lens sizes and on picture flare sources.

i think he has finally stopped drinking. drinking and working doesn't mix. people who have worked with him i know love him, but when someone doesn't show up and the director, gaffer, and grip have to figure out how to proceed on a daily basis; it's understandable why there are often 2 dp credits on wkw films.

Dave, I would ask for a demo so you can check them out. They are much bigger than any kino fixture and throw alot more light. The closest comparison would be the blanket light, but the lumapanel is much easier to operate, plug-in, store, etc. They sell it as a piece of a large source as opposed as nessesarily a single fixture. Some of the pictures of the rigs are massive, but alot more controllable than spacelights or coops. They are very user friendly, i got 2 for a demo on a small shoot. I'll upload some pictures. Chris

Hi Hugh, Lighting from the ground (AKA malibu lighting) can sometimes add a surreal feeling and also be more feasible than other approaches. Watching big hollywood movies can be deceiving sometimes. Never underestimate how much resources went into the final product, especially with Robert Richardson involved. Best of luck.

Here's the Lumapanel. I tried it out last week. Unbelievably bright for 15 amps. :) It's not lightweight. :( one cord. :) got this picture off their website.

has anyone else had problems with balancing to litepanels? i never get a ntural light out them.

I checked out the lumapanels last week. wow. compared to kino flos they are massive. Kind of like a 9-lite maxi-brute versus a 36-lite dino. Rock (the shop guy) said they are coming out with a new product soon. the lights are really thin (lumapanel 5" vs Wall of light 8"). They run off of 15 amps ?! I plan on trying them out on a small shoot next week. They are letting me test them for free :)

I thought the action was well directed. does anyone know if it was downconverted on capture or was it done later? thanks

are you talking about that or a lumapanel. the lumapanel isn't made by kino-flo.

i spoke to rock at t8 technology (lumapanel makers) they have alot of bulbs that are t8. their light runs off them. i'm doing a demo next week and will let you know what i find out.
