  1. Hi I am going to shoot a feature film using 2 x Cinealta 900R series cameras at uncompressed footage HD SDI Im going to be using the Evertz ECAS-HD converter. In the documentation it refers hybrid copper/fiber optic cable. My question is would anyone happen to know what the name of that cable is and do evertz use industry standard cables. Cheers JamesJJ
  2. For me it would be Aussie born John Seale. I have met him once in person he is very down to earth and easy to talk to dispite the fact that his is brilliant at what he does and is well known. He won an Oscar for English Patient. JamesJJ
  3. On a side note the tape was a JVC Pro HD Professional DV 63min Tape. JamesJJ
  4. Hi I am having trouble capturing a film from a tape that was shot on a JVC 111E camera. The footage was shot at 720p however i dont have the same camera anymore to transfer to the computer. I have tried a normal DV camera and a Sony HVRV1P to capture the footage but on both instances when i tried to view the footage only a blue screen would come up while the time code ticked over. Now i know that i shot the footage on the day and i tested the camera the night before and played the tape back with the JVC 111E camera so it was working. I used the same settings the next day to shoot the film and there is a time code on the tape. Is there something that JVC uses that doesnt allow their tapes to be captured by any other piece of equipment ie DV or Sony HDV. I would have thought that if i shot on JVC HD that i could use a Sony HD camera to capture the footage regardless. In closing i guess the only way to capture the footage from this camera is to get another JVC camera or a JVC tape deck. Questions comments welcome. JamesJJ
  5. Hi I am just wondering if anyone knew of any websites that would buy HD/HDV stock footage. For example www.webuyhd.com buys stock footage at 31min per shot for 6 shots at $500 USD total. Any websites or links would be great Thanks JamesJJ

    Rome TV Series

Does anyone know what the Rome TV Series (HBO) filmed by Alik Sakharov is shot on. I know its in HD but what camera is it shot on. Thanks James
  7. Hello I am new to using the HDV-ZP1 and i am looking to shoot night scenes with a gritty feel. Kind of like the way Collateral was shot at night by Michael Mann. However during the day scenes i was looking to contrast that with a Saturation approach. Would anybody have any suggestions on the best way to do this using this camera as i am new to using this particular camera. Thanks James
  8. I couldn't agree with you more Daniel. I used to want to climb the corporate ladder etc when i was doing IT. Then i made a career change after traveling around the world for two years. I have definately got something to say and yes I agree completely that if you have alot of life experience i.e you have done alot of stuff then you will tell better stories.
  9. I should have said 10 year working visa. I worked in the US for a period of 6 months about 2 years ago but they gave me a working visa for 10 years.
  10. Interesting thanks for that. Yes i don know a little bit about Maya and Shake, photoshop etc. My first degree was IT. The ironic thing is i made a career change because i didnt want to be stuck behind a desk all day. I love getting outdoors and shooting. So i did a Masters in Film and love it tremendiously. As for traveling overseas I have a duel passport which allows me to work in the UK indefenitely and Australia. Plus i have a 10 year American Visa. Trouble is i would like to stay in Australia if i can help it.
  11. Thankyou all for the positive and humorous responses. If anyone else would like to post please do so. I know for one the UK has lots of jobs in film so it shouldnt be a problem to get a job there. So does American. However i was thinking of staying closer to home if i can help it. NZ might be a good choice.
  12. Thanks for some of the info. Keep it comming. I also have worked on student films and other films for free already but even they dont come up very often and what do you do to suplement you income. A part time job. I do realise it is a slow process and i am prepared to put years into this in order to become successful but at the same time i do need to earn some money also. I cant keep working for free. I would recommend doing any AFTRS short course. I did mine on creative coverage and it was brilliant. We got taught by Jan Kenny ACS. She has work on several films with the Legendary John Seale ACS. Also im from Sydney. What about overseas would people say that the industry is easier to get into abroad. Any thoughts. James
  13. Im new to cinematography and from Australia. I have a Masters in Film and have made several short films myself. I have done a short course at AFTRS and I have worked on a couple of features as a camera assistant, but im finding it hard to get more work. Alot of ppl have said i have a great resume and for some roles am over qualified, but having said that i need to get out there and shoot, work with and work on more films. What are peoples thoughts in breaking in to this industry. Are there any websites out there that are looking for hardworking qualified people. Should i do more courses, read more books. Its been about 6 months since i finished my degree so im starting to get impatient. Anyone have any ideas or thoughts. Help would be appricated. Thanks HallofFame
