  1. Hey Chris. Thanks for the tips. Where did you check out the camera Z1, it's not available for sale until February 2005, so I am really interested in testing it before jumping to buying it. The best features to me where the high resolution (amount of lines) and the option of using Pal and Ntsc. But I want to make sure I don't make a $5000 mistake. Please let me know and thanks again. Daniel
  2. I Can STILL buy it vefore the year ends, but it won't be delivered until February. What do you think of the camera though ?
  3. Has anyone heard about this camera ? Sony HVR-Z1 HDV Camcorder https://www.globalmediapro.com/av/index.cgi...oc=p&locID=1236 I am looking for the best quality Video camera under $5000 and I work both in the US and in Europe, so it looks like this one could use both formats, PAl and NTSC. Please give me quick feedback, because I need to buy it before the year ends, for Tax Purposes. Thank you so much !!! Daniel
  4. This message is for everyone, but specially for David M. Mullen. Hello David, My name is Daniel Aranyo, I am a cinematographer based in LA but also shoot in Europe. Now i am in Barcelona, my hometown and I am considering buying a Video Camera under $5000 that can be best quality in DVCAM or DV, with the best combination of lens, resolution,etc... I tested the Panasonic DVX100A and liked a lot the look. Not too happy about not being able to interchange lenses, but I like the video results and lens performance. I did a comparison with the Canon XL1 and there was no doubt the Panasonic had much better results. This was actually a test for ABC in NY, and made the tests side by side under the exact same lighting conditions,etc... an online color correction and was surprised at the good results of the Panasonic. I would like to be able to use it for future possible music video production and even shortfilm or feature film. I saw great results of a postproduction company in Paris that up-rezd de footage and looked amazing. So, if I do go for the Panasonic DVX100A, would you get in PAL due to a better resolution/lines ? Or since I live mostly in LA, it will be a problem in the long run ? I have Final Cut Pro and I believe I can import PAL and export in NTSC. What do you recommend ? And if you know of a better camera for that price range please let me know... Thank you so very much !! Daniel PS: By the way, I shot a movie, "Cross Bronx" that won best High Definition at the 2004 Tribeca Film Festival in NY and the lead actor was Max Greenfield, who I know was an actor in the mvie you shot: "When do we eat?". Small world.
  5. thank you everyone !! I found a couple of not too bad sites... http://www.allmoviephoto.com/ www.cinema.com daniel
  6. HEY EVERYONE !! ANYBODY KNOW OF A GOOD LINK TO A DATABASE FOR MOVIE STILLS ? I AM PUTTING TOGETHER A VISUAL PORTFOLIO FOR A MOVIE I AM ABOUT TO SHOOT AND I FIND IT REALLY HARD TO LOCATE A GOOD WEBSITE OF THAT KIND. PLEASE DON;T SAY IMDB, I MEAN GOOD RESOLUTION OR BIG ENOUGH MOVIE FRAMES.. I NEED HELP, PLEASE !! GOTTA TURN THIS VISUAL BOOK VERY SOON. THANX !!
  7. HEY FELIPE !! YES, IT;S ME DANIEL. I KNOW NENE. SMALL WORLD. IF YOU HAVE THOSE TESTS, I'D LOVE TO SEE THEM. WHAT FORMAT YOU HAVE THEM ON ? DANIEL
  8. Thank you Leon and Phil !! I'll find out about the squishy lens from Clairmont. I doubt it can be easily found here in Barcelona, but I know the effect you mean. About creating the blur and streaks, you are right, they can probably be created digitally, but as a DP you always want to achieve the effect in camera in case you are not invited or available for postproduction,,and I know how that goes..."we changed our mind", "we couldn;t schedule around you...",etc...So I am looking for advice on INCAMERA effects. Thank you again !! Daniel
  9. Hello everyone !! I am just about to start shooting a feature film here in Spain, and living in LA all these years I feel a little crippled without turning to you guys, my well of wisdom across the Atlantic. I need to shoot a scene of a drunk driver, the lead, dangerously driving at night on a deserted road and barely missing the oncoming random traffic. *I am shooting Super16mm, with an Arri SR3, we are scannning the neg at 2k and prinnting back out to 35mm, so I have full control of a digital postproduction suite, for color correction as well as for any compositting needed. I was thinking this scene will be shot on stage for the hero shots in the car against green screen and the plates will be shot live. I wanted to shoot something special for this one. I was thinking bringing the shutter out of sync to create vertical streaks of the headlights that blare in the lens from the oncoming vehicles ( is that possible with the Arri SR3?, can I create horizontal streaks instead?..) ...taking the lens out of the lens mount for complete out of focus every once in a while (Would that be a bad idea for compsitting ?, would I have to do it on the foreground plates as well, or should I let the FX Guys apply the level of defocusing later ?), changing the speed in camera ? (same question...better to do it later ?) I also would love to create motion blur combined woth the vertical streaking of the headlights (shutter out of sync). Can I shoot less frames per second and transfer at that same frame rate to achieve that effect ?. Any crazy interesting ideas or movie refrences ? This one I think should be in the direction of the final driving chase in "Lost Highway"...you know?, very crude, but still wacked. Thank you for any help !! This place rocks !! Daniel Aranyo
