  1. I decided to go profit today, so I'm getting the necessary paperwork done. Just got workers compensation insurance for the shooting dates. It wouldn't have worked as non-profit because non-profit means doing it for educational, charitable, religious, etc. It would have fallen in lines with educational for me but I'm currently outside of college and not assigned a film project to do. But I'm glad I'm glad I'm going profit now. It was a little extra work but it was worth it. Always good to get a return profit :)
  2. I talked with the Child Labor Unit at the Bureau of Labor and Industries. In Oregon, the minor must have a workers permit (wh-211 form) and I would need to provide workers compensation insurance. There are four actors on set: three volunteer, and the minor has to be paid and meet the conditions of ORA 839-021-0335. It is a pain getting workers compensation insurance just for two days of filming. Temporary agencies don't even want to deal with minors although SAIF Corporation said they are just covering their asses as it's legal to do. Initially I said I wanted to sell the film which led up to all of this. This means it's a business. A small, sole proprietor business. Therefore, the the state wants to know about it. Since this is a ten minute film though, I'm considering not to sell it. I think internet distribution and film festivals would be good enough for self-promotion and for the actors. So I'm currently talking to them about if I do not seek profit. I had high hopes in the beginning but I really see this as self-promotion for myself to go towards the film industry and also a film school. If it's educational, I think I am excempt. I will most likely know more next week. This project was suppose to be fun! :P
  3. Hello again, I contacted Oregon Films to get the information. I figure that is the best way to go. Thanks though :)
  4. I am planning to direct a non-union short film in August. One of the few actors is a child (5-8). Can anyone point me to sources describing how many hours they can work during school? Production will begin about the same time. We will be shooting for two or three weekends. Location will be in Oregon. Thanks!
  5. Hello, I tried this on the other forum section but I wasn't getting any responses. I have a short film that I am planning to do. There is an important scene where displaying superhero images on a bedspread and pajamas is important. Would displaying characters such as Superman, Batman, etc. be fine or does it need permission? Is it fine without displaying the name? Please let me know, thanks.
  6. Hi, just bumping this up again :) Please let me know soon.
  7. Hi, Apart from my internship, I just started working on a second short film. I am curious on props: when to use brands and when not to? My first scene involves bedding that is filled with superhero art. It's important to have it as it fortells the character's... character. Is it fine to have characters such as Superman, Batman, etc. on the covers? Is it to a point? If not, are there any suggestions? There will be some closeups and long shots, so I think closeups can avoid showing the brand. Another similar prop will be superhero PJ's so my question applies to both bedding and PJ's. Thanks.
  8. Thank you for that detailed response! It helped me plenty.
  9. Hello, I am curious how often cinematographers travel specific to motion films? Would it be too hard with a family? Thanks.
  10. I have a short independent film titled A Soft Whisper (http://asoftwhisper.8k.com) that was made in 2003 and still recieving income from it. I like that :) So, the question was how to increase that income. Sometimes I don't get anything in several months, then I'm making a ton of $$$ after that. It's like a roller-coaster ride! Right now, I have the trailer on video.google.com, download.com, etc. which all lead to my website for ordering. I also help advertise the starring actor too on celeb/filmography websites. He voice-acted as Ronno in Bambi 2, so that has helped. I'm curious if I missed some websites that you often use to advertise your own. The web has been my target since the release of the film. Any ideas, thoughts, etc. in advertising on the web would be very helpful. What websites have helped increase your profit? Thanks in advanced.
  11. Wow, great! I use to live in Redding, CA, and finding people was like looking for a needle in a haystack! I'd like to get your thoughts on a script a writer gave permission for me to use. I'll contact you through email soon.
  12. It was a good, action-packed film, but I think if the audience is going to be confused in any part of it, it was doomed. I was confused over half of the film, so.. yeah I won't go there. It was still a fun movie to see.
  13. Hi, I recently moved in the Salem area (near Portland by 40 miles), and I'm curious if there's others in this area where I can keep in contact with and possibly get together to share ideas and so forth. I directed my last film but I consider myself more of a DP these days. It would be great to talk to others who share the same interests. Thanks, Phil
