Does anyone know where to find an adapter or a screw that would work with my manfrotto head and Eclair ACL? The standard screw size that came on the manfrotto is too small, and i think my camera requires the larger 3/4'' thread size. thanks- nicholas

Originally just as a camera test... but i have actually thought up a use for the look. Does anyone else have any advice on how i should plan to expose this stock since it is so old? thanks- nicholas

So i just ran some leader through my Eclair ACL, and everything seems to be working alright. I am now about to put some actual film through it, but i'll be shooting 100ft. of Plus-K reversal that was supposed to be processed back in 1966. So i was wondering how i should compensate in my exposure for such an old film. Should i rate it slower, or faster? Also, i don't even know what the film is supposed to be rated because there is no indication of the film speed on the box. Any help would be appreciated- nicholas

Hate to tell you Tom, but i think you did. I have a french 200ft mag, and just ordered 6 different stocks of 100ft daylight loading spools B-wound single perf. Not sure if that is going to be emulsion in, or out... buttt what does this mean? Should i be alright? thanks- nicholas

Thanks Tom, i appreciate it. I only have a plastic core like the one in that photo. Will this work for the take-up until i can get a metal reel? thanks- nicholas

Also, and pardon my ignorancy, but i am confused on how the Eclair magazine works in terms of loading a spool of film and having a core on the take-up side of the mag. If i buy 100ft. of film from Kodak, will it already come on a spool? Will i need a seperate spool on the take-up side of the magazine? thanks- nicholas

Yes, Please! Thanks- nicholas

Was looking to buy some film leader to test loading my Eclair ACL magazines. Saw this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/KODAK-16MM-WHITE-MOVIE...VQQcmdZViewItem Is that the right core? Doesn't look like it would fit on my magazine. Could anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks- Nicholas

What actually is collimating? And how often do you have to have this done? -nicholas

Thanks for the help everyone, especially Jason. I eventually discovered the correct procedure on my own, but your post was exactly the problem i was having. (so yes, the camera seems to be fully functional) However, might still have to send this one away. At least the 400ft mag! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v502/truespin19/photo1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v502/truespin19/photo2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v502/truespin19/photo4.jpg

So does anyone have any knowledge concerning my main question which was if there was a general consensus of lens manufacturers being good/bad/better/worse? Especially between Kinoptik and Angenieux? -nicholas
-
Looking at wide angle lenses, and was curious what company typically made "better" lenses. I was specifically looking at a: Kinoptik 5.7mm f1.8 cameflex mount lens VS. Angenieux 5.9mm f1.8 cameflex mount lens The only real difference i see is the Kinoptik being able to accept 2x2 filters, but what i am really concerned with is image quality. Is there a general rule when it comes to the quality of lens manufacturers? Is this even possible? And i hate to admit it, but how the hell do you pronounce Angenieux? -nicholas

Yeah, mine is supposed to have a light meter. Also, the shutter seems to stop closed rather than open when i turn off the motor. (i can't see through the viewfinder)

My Eclair ACLII finally made its way from nation to nation, to inside my apartment. I bought the Bescor battery belt Saul recommended, and although i don't have any film/leader to load into the camera... i attempted to turn it on and run it at 8fps. I turned on the main switch by the ACL logo on the front of the camera, and the unit powered up but immediatley started to record/run the motor. I tried turning on the switch near the side handle as well, but the camera continues to record even if i push/don't push the button on the handle. The button seems to have no effect whatsoever. Am i doing something wrong? Or is this thing destined for Bernie? thanks- nicholas

I am picking up my Eclair ACL later tonight, and it is my first 16mm camera. I wanted to take it to someone who has experience with this camera, and have them at least take a short look at it and tell me if there is anything wrong/missing/need fixing/cleaning. Anyone know of someone in or around Orlando that could help me out? Thanks- Nicholas

I am picking up my Eclair ACL later tonight (shaking with excitement) and wanted to test it out. However, i have no film for it at the moment. Can i run the motor without film, or is this bad for the camera? thanks- nicholas

Wanted to get my hands on this manual for a while, but i'm not quite sure which to get. I think the 9th ed. is the newest, which i suppose is the one i should get. However, there seem to be a few of these. Also, i read the 9th edition was "completely revised"? Does this mean the 9th edition is a lot different from the ones before it? How different is the manual from edition to edition? These are the few different 9th editions i found: http://www.amazon.com/American-Cinematogra...4343&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.com/American-Cinematogra...5231&sr=8-2 http://www.amazon.com/American-Cinematogra...5231&sr=8-3 Thanks for any help- Nicholas

I actually own and have read that book in its entirety once... and frequently go back to it. I know most of the fundamentals when it comes to cinematography, however my mind started going and i was unsure if perhaps i assumed too much and possibly looked over something. Unfortunatly, i am out of town at the moment, and unable to go back to "cinematography." I also just realized that Mullen, THE David Mullen, is an active particapant here at cinematography.com... and holy sh**. All i can say is we are all very lucky to have such a community of professionals and newcomers alike to help/inspire/learn. Long live cinematography.com! Thank you, that helped a ton. -Nicholas

BOREDOM ALERT: This post is about F stops. Ok, i thought i had this thing down to a science... but my mind started thinking (surprise)... and i came to the realization that perhaps i have been wrong this entire time. I understand one stop difference lets half or twice as much light to reach the film. However, i always thought of this "stop" as a click on the f-stop ring. So 2.8 to 4 would be one stop. But i started thinking, perhaps 2.8 to 5.6 is one stop... and 4 would be maybe a third of a stop difference? So, my question... is say f4 to f8 a one stop difference, or is f4 to f5.6 a one stop difference. Sorry for the ignorancy of this question- Nicholas

Thanks again Keneu for all the help. I have no desire to jump right into a film production. I'm simply obsessed with cinematography/light/celluloid and am finally having the opportunity to get my hands on the equipment and start shooting. I plan on doing test after test, and helping friends or whoever has an idea for a flick. Full Sail sounds like a great idea... would i be asking too much if i offered to shoot any project they had as long as they pay for the stock/processing/transfer? -Nicholas

I can't thank you enough Keneu! -Nicholas

HUGE beginner question alert! About to start shooting 16mm film, and i have come to the ignorant conclusion that there are only: 7 Color negative stocks 1 Color reversal stock (ONLY ONE!?) 2 BW reversal 2 BW negative This information was gathered from Kodak's website. I believe FUJI has some 16mm stock, but i am having trouble finding it. Is this true? Shooting on an eclair ACL, what perf stock do i need? Do all films come in mutliple perf setups? Is there a difference between regular 16mm film and super 16mm film? A TON of questions, i know. My sympathies to those who have read this, or who choose to answer a question or two- Nicholas
