  1. Hello all... We are going to shoot some old footage in a movie theater right out of the screen. We can call it a "poor telecine".... The film footage is at 24fps and we are going to use a Sony HDW F-900 for this. What is the recomended fps setting for such a case? It is the obvious 24fps or do you think that the 50i will be better giving better motion in the picture? The footage is going to be downscaled and stored in a computer for future reference. Thanks in advance!
  2. Thanks for replying. The start stop commands of Miranda work fine at 95% of the time. Only a few times it does'nt sends a command to a dv deck recorder. Your units commands does'nt work at all no matter what device you connect to dvc-802?
  3. Hello again to all forum members! Recently we bought a Miranda DVC-802 downconverter for our Sony HDW F900H and I've notice some strange behavior regarding its operation. I've been in contact with Miranda tech support in Canada, Montreal but they were unable to help and even tell me if the behavior of the unit I have is normal or not! They even forward my problems to the Research and Development department. So I want to ask anyone who has experiense with the use of this product to tell me if this is a normal behaviour or not. The things I've noticed are the following: 1)In any frame rate we try to downconvert (24psf, 25psf, 50i) the dvc-802 output Timecode (LTC, burned in TC or even the DV embedded on picture TC)is always different from the timecode that is recorded to the camera tape by one frame. This is the worst thing because we want to make copys of the footage on the fly, for offline editing, but the timecode of the HDCAM tapes and DV tapes is'nt the same causing problems to the editing. 2)When the connected camera (Sony HDW-F900H) is not running,the TC on all outputs is not stopped. The last frame and field number of the timecode is constantly moving up and down by one frame (eg 12... 13.... 12... 13...12 in the frames number and 1...2...1...2...1...2 in the fields number). 3)When we connect a DV desk recorder (Sony DSR-11) to the firewire output the start-stop dv commands does not always work. 4)The burned-in timecode (OSD TC) some times is been displayed as zeros and some times is been misplaced in the image (eg in the center of the picture). 5)The burned-in timecode (OSD TC) goes on or off whithout changing any setting in the unit menus (this does not occure on the HD-SDI OSD, but only on the composite or DV). Please notice that the unit I own has the latest Firmware on it. Thanks in advance for any answers on my problem and sorry for my poor English!
  4. You can also use dimmers for the job like this one. You can trim the volts to exactly 110v-120v and keep it in that position with a duck tape!
  5. Thank you all for your response. I'm very suprised that dcc could change the brightnes of areas in picture in such static shots. Today (if I have the time) I will run a test and simulate the shot to see how dcc is responding to foreground non highlight changes. Thanks again!
  6. Hello all!!! I've been searching to the internet for HD Depth of Field tables for almost three months with no success. But last night I found a way to create charts for HD or any other format by choosing the Circle of Confusion you want. For HD I choose the 0.010mm (4/10.000 in) as stated on the HiDef Kelly Calculator of the Guild of British Camera Technicians and Panavision Europe. Any other CoC can be choosed!!! The way to get them is prety simple... I had discovered a site named http://cinematography.de/ (please visit it!) where there is an awsome DoF Charts calculator at this address. Here you can only choose the CoC to be 0.0125 , 0.0250 , 0.0350 and 0.0500. But as I took a closer look I found that the tables calculated have this link format: http://cinematography.de/cgi/focustable.pl?f=32&u=0.025&dmin=0.5&dmax=999999&kmin=1.4&kmax=16&unit=m&lang=en Now you can see the variables that caculates the DoF tables. Lets analyse them a little :) [f=32] where 32 is the focal length of the lens you want the charts to have. [u=0.025] where 0.025 is the CoC of the tables you want to have. [dmin=0.5] where 0.5 is the shortest distance that your table you want to have. [dmax=999999] where 999999 is the longest distance that your table you want to have (in short terms infinite). [kmin=1.4] where 1.4 is the minimum aperture that your table want to have. [kmax=16] where 16 is the maximum aperture that your table want to have. [unit=m] here the m is metric. It cant be replaced with an i to get the units to imperial. [lang=en] here en is english. It cant be replaced with an de to get the chart to German language. Now if we are start to replace those variables we can have some very cool and detailed custom charts!!! Eg for an HD (CoC=0.010mm) lens of Focal Length 15mm and a chart that has minimum calculated distanse of 0.20m, min aperture of f=1.4 and max aperture of f=22 we get this link: http://cinematography.de/cgi/focustable.pl?f=15&u=0.010&dmin=0.2&dmax=999999&kmin=1.4&kmax=22&unit=m&lang=en Now if you just copy and paste the above link to another brower window you will get the DoF table. The only think you have to do is to change the variables in the new browser address bar and hit Enter!!! Notes: 1) It is much more easy to do it in Internet explorer 2) If you want you can use a template I had made in .doc format (Office Word). You can download it here. 3) In my template I had include the Hyperfocal Distanse for the appertures of the table. You can calculate them here. 4) To use my template the only thing you have to do is to calculate the table, select ONLY the DoF values, copy and paste them in the template by selecting all the OLD DoF values. Don't forget to cahnge the FL of the template and all the others variables that you changed!!! Piece of cake!!! And for the Bussy or Lazy ones :D you can find the tables I've made here. The tables are calculated for CoC=0.010mm, min distanse of 0.20m, min aperture of f:1.4 and max aperture of f=22 and also includes a hyperfocall distance for all the apertures! The focal lenghts of the charts are the followings: 4.7 8 10 12 15 18 20 22 25 28 30 32 35 38 40 42 45 48 50 and 52.
  7. Hello and thank you for your answers. I think the shot took place around 10-12 o-clock in the morning. The exposure on lens was definetely on manual. The exposure on the people, floor in front of the balcony was not changing. The only part of the image that changed was the sky. DCC was enabled but there was little to none movement in parts in front of the sky. Notice that we continue shooting some close-ups from different angles with the same settings and this behavior it did'nt took place again but I'm afraid that this is going to happen again without any warning!   8. Hello this is my first post in the forum, but sadly it is'nt for good! Last week we shot a comercial with our new sony f900/3. We had a scene in a balcony with background a bright sky. We used a polarising filter so the sky was recorded normal but the camera and zoom was perfectly still. When we shoot it the DP noticed that the sky was changing his brightnes (from lighter to darker blue). Later in post this phainomenon was confirmed. Did anyone knows what is causing this problem?
