  1. Question: what is the proper word for the lens that directors sometimes use to determine what lens to use on the camera? Thanks!

Hi, I tried to google it, but cannot find the price for the camera anywhere. Do someone know? Thanks for your time!
  3. Would you say the Macro-Variogon 1.8 / 7 - 56 (Schneider - Kreuznach) is good? (I mean the lense, of course!) Thanks!
  4. Hi, Im new to super8-cameras - and could use some advice. Will the camera be quiet enough to record sound indoors? What are your thoughts? Also, the camera runs on batteries, right? Thanks for your time!
  5. Sorry for the misunderstanding, Mark. I guess 'aesthetics' is a question of the eyes of the beholder.
  6. Mark, Maybe they sense a difference especially when you ask for it - but I think it's something the audience trust is a decision better left for the filmmaker to decide. They just want to be entertained. Think about your wife, girlfriend - your parents etc. Have you ever heard them say: Man, they should have shot the movie on film/Hd instead. (not talking about Dogme's shaky camera movements) Of course you should opt for the medium that pleases you. But don't make the decision based on what the audience think. If it's entertaining - they'll eat it raw. That's my opinion.
  7. *** Im not professional by any means - so take this for what it is - my humble opinion. *** I go by instinct. (I make low-budget films in order to learn what I like) I don't like to make 'rules' or analyze my work. BUT I know what I like and I know what I DON'T like - when I see it. I also don't analyze my screenplays. If I were to analyze my work I wouldn't be productive. But I police my work. I make changes until it pleases my eyes. I think you have to learn the basics. But in the end it's your vision that's important. You need to find YOUR vision. That's what will make you succesfull in the long run, IMO. The reason I don't analyze too much - is that I don't think it's possible to fully understand filmmaking, but that you can get the flair for it.
  8. Yes. Neal Fredericks, the cinematographer for "The Blair Witch Project" was killed in a plane crash in Florida.
  9. Yeah that was scary. That was also one of the only true scary moments in that film IMO. It didn't really deliver.
  10. The Shining - at the age of 8. I will always remember Danny running in that maze.
  11. That's interesting Mark. I often wonder whether movie-goers really distinguish between film and HD - and if they really care. I actually think that if Cameron chose to shoot Titanic - even in DV - and said it was a result of artistic reasons in order to make it more realistic - moviegoers would accept it. My girlfriend always tell me to shut up when I rant about whether a movie was shot on film, dv or hd. She always says: who cares? Actually, after I got interested in filmmaking I now find it hard to enjoy a film. I will look for all kind of technical aspects like the lighting, camera movements etc. It's kind of sad!
  12. I too have been told that I'll go to hell because of my non-beliefs. You know it's really sad... for them. Not me. They are the one living their lives on a big, fat lie - IN MY OPINION! Let each have their own faith!
  13. Carpenters 'Halloween'. Night of the living dead. (bw)
  14. Haha! You're soo right! Farrell looks rediculous. More rediculous than Brad Pitt in Troy. Im really bored by all these epic stories. I haven't seen this one and never will. Yet another movie where 'Der Fuhrer' greets his men before battle on his white horse saying something like: it's what we do in this life that will echo in eternity..yadadadadadad..zzzzzzzz!
  15. Remember Kevin Bacon? He started out in Friday the 13th. And what about Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street? Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween. It's nice with some change IMHO. There's nothing wrong with a popcorn-flick as long as it's done right.
  16. For me it's great in order to solve problems or for inspiration. It's a way to learn the craft. I 'steal' from the best by watching dvd's all the time. You would be foolish not to. As long as it's not an hommage or out of admiration - but to solve specific problems. Kubrick, Spielberg and other hot-shots didn't invent cinema. They had talent to begin with but learned the craft from watching other filmmakers they admired at the time they started out. They didn't invent the wheel.
  17. Thanks J.Lamar King!
  18. Is the K3 difficult to load? - and what does 'semi-automatic' loading mean? (the description of the K3 said 'semi-automatic') Also, is it true that the pentax screw mount takes Zeiss lenses without any modification? Thanks for your time!
  19. Just curious: How much do you guys think a reflex-conversion would cost?
  20. You make some very good points, George. I guess getting my feet wet is the only way I'll get the experience. For that my eyemo will do. For the feature - I guess I'll look for something else. Thanks for all the good advice. I'll certaintly keep them in mind. Jonas
  21. Or is it simply a matter of which lens you use?
  22. George: how is your Arri? Is there a notable difference in picture quality? To for example an eyemo, konvas etc...
