hi all i worked as an assistant to mr.Rajiv menon......on this latest film "GURU". it has just been released worldwide.even in the US...and getting great reviews on the cinematography.....it will be grreat if anyone from this forum sees it and ....give ur valuable comments on it....it will be a great learning from all ur feedback....... this was shot on super 35....and went thro the DI process....before it is released in both the Qube format digital projection as well as the conventional film projection....... the film directed by Mr.Manirathnam....was shot in Turkey and India with a period look. shot with 5217 and 5218 with arri 435. please see the film and ...give ur valuable comments......thanks. hi all i just wanted to share how i feel about this ....viewfinder that can mount lenses. its really a boon to cinematography...for its limitless options it can give u i composing frames....wow. i am still astonished about the freedom...i get in composing! we are using the kish optics...viewfinder which has the PL mount that can take the spherical and aspherical lens. the best part is i can get the best of frames....like i can with my still slr camera....that minute adjustments in height and level and position...down the millimeter adjustments ....is possible in composing. can anyone tell me where i can get a used viefinder.......i just got so used to it while i was assisting my boss.....now that i am on my own....would like to own one! thanks & cheers!

ok guys. a different point of view ....point of view from an Indian film-maker. as an Indian......and after living there right from childhood to 30 ....am still enthralled by the multi cultural ..and the multi everything of what India is. it looks great from every point of view. now coming to the film 'the road to agra'. was indeed a good effort....but it was like a free flowing footage of everything that came ur way...ofcourse everything that came ur way was interesting..... but interviews were out of sync with the shots......they were talking of the software design in india...why that ....when it is 'road to agra'....and the irony of the locations of the interviews......5 star hotels....and talking about the people on the road. it would have been great.....if they had spoken ..when in the midle of those cute kids on the road.....riding a cycle....or ...travelling in autorickshaw....etc... but to see shots ....kids trying to reach out for u...waving to u while u were inside a a/c car......and hence ur car windows closed.....was creating a different mood altogether. those few seconds of the boy in pink shirt ...running to the car...and the way he reactts to u all ....itself was a film by itself. that few seconds is the crux of ur entire film i feel.....that would do.....that is the moment....precious moment captured. who did the music....or where is it from.....great. very off beat! cheers!

John, just be positive whatever the oncologist is going to be saying. its so strange that....my father is going thro the same situation and the entire family is going thro deep pain. he has started his chemo ..... he is doing ok. a little weak though. his second cycle starting 2nd DEC. we are staying positive. we wouldnt for a moment think negative. my prayers are there for u. My dad is getting Oxaliplatin in combination with 5 FU and Leucovorin .......they say to add the agents such as Cetuximab (anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody) or Bevacizumab (anti-angiogenic monoclonal antibody) might be more effective. But they are quite expensive and i cant afford them. check with ur doc about these agents. my prayers for u. take care.

So instead of the timer getting only "print low key and moody" from a camera report as his reference, he sees a visual representation of how the DP wants the shot adjusted. hi matt thanx. little deviating from the topic....but how exactly does the lab......follow instructions like 'print low key and moody' reference. how is it possible printing photochemically.....and esp after photoshop work how can they match that reference.....(its possible for telecine only right?).....how else for the dailies!! thanks

hi all recently i figured out that some DOPs across the globe have this habit of taking digital photographs for every scene/shot to get an to expose the film. it actually works like a polaroid....we can see the images then and there...with various different exposures and then choose ...at wat exposure to make it as the final. but how can it work technically.....will the look of the digital shot really help the Cinematography. forget about the latitude of film vs digital....other wise how can we MAKE USE of the DIGITAL still shots to ENHANCE CINEMATOGRPHY? cheers! thanks!

hi all am doing my next feature using the anamorphic lens KOWA. i would prefer to shoot with Hawk series...but my budget wouldnt allow that. kowa apparently is outdated from the international cinema scene. it looks extremely soft to me....but i want to make the best of Kowa. how do i manage to get sharper images.....with better depth of field....and make my images look rich. do i have to go for more of backligting ......and boosting the actors keylight reading more than the ...available exterior light (day exterior) i will be shooting on arri 3 with 25mm, 40, 50, 75, 100 mm block lens and HR angenuix zoom. thanks and cheers!!

hi all i have heard someone say that when a camera pans from (left to right or right to left......one of these two)...or when it is a dolly movment....ther is a slight strobing of the image ? is it true....does it happen in all motion cameras ? is this somehting relatedd to the shutter mirror.....in arri 3 the shutter is different from the arri 435 where it is butterfly type i think..... has it been avoided in the arri 435 cameras?! thanks and cheers!!

how do we calibrate the exposure...without getting an ocverexposure or underexp.......any ideal way to compose thhese images!!!

hi all am planning to give an old look to one sequence in my next film....one of the ideas i thought was to give smoked edges to the image framed....(how we normally get those dodged images on still photograph prints.......)...basically darkening the corners and the edges of the films...... are there any filters to get this effect...or is there any other way to get this effect.....can can i just add a glass with their edges smoked or.....use the grey or black dulling spray! i intend to shoot on 16mm .....and bring scratches deliberately on the negative and then blow it up to 35 mm....and join it to the rest of the film which will be in 35mm itself.... any better idea to give a old look.......Flash back sequence.....welcome!!! thanks. cheers!

hi all was wondering about this exposing the film more than once(twice),,,to get the visuals... how feasible is it to get some great images....what is the technicality involved init.....HOW? any examples of movie where they have done it......how is it diifeerent from doing superposing image in post in opticals? thanks. cheers!
