  1. I was hoping they would reconsider making a 3chip 1080p camera. And not the psuedo consumer one they just announced. Oh well...
  2. Has anyone heard if JVC is announcing any new products at NAB. Just curious. I currently have a HD100a. Looking to buy soon. Joe C.
  3. For a possible answer to getting 4:2:2 out of your JVC HD component outputs without breaking the bank, Bill Ravens over at dvinfo.net has an interesting solution...component to hdmi converter. Seems you could hook it up to a BM Intensity card if needed... http://dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=93406 Caveat...I personally havent' tried it yet.
  4. I rarely post on these types of threads because they are non productive. Yes I'm a Red res holder, no I don't think Film is going anywhere. I love film, the look of film...but for the types of movies I want to make, RED is the better choice. I'm already familiar with an IT centric work flow, so RED is the newest import machine for that and a great one at that. For me it's about not having to pay 1K a day for a CineAlta rental with all the attachment and no need for a tape deck or tape anything..the great picture that RED takes and the affordability are 2 of the deciding factors for me, but I speak only for myself. But...there will be tiimes when only film will do (high speed 240fps capture for instance), and there are certain types of movies that I would only want to shoot in film. At that same thread at reduser you folks are referencing, many of us a trying to tell people that cinematography.com is the place to go to ask questions about lenses and lighting and other 35mm issues. I'm hoping to be able to ask experienced 35mm camera operators about dof issues, blocking, etc...because I'm having to unlearn 1/3" chip style shooting and relearn film style. I'm excited just to be able to have the chance. So, no probs with the film crowd, looking forward to working with you. Hope we can put the past behind us and learn from each other. Because all those things you all have been learning the last 75 years are going to be in even greater demand.
  5. He's upset because you apologized to Jim and not him. Don't know what you said, and don't care, not my fight. But... He offers to meet you, when you take him up on it, he suddenly has work to do? Suddenly hicksville WI is to far on the other side of the world from Las Vegas? Riiiiiiight. I get it. Sorry, I usually just read this stuff, but this was too much, lol. TROLL for sure.
  6. Some excellent info here. I have related questions.. If the Flos have a color temp of 3200K and a CRI of 90, is the green issue reduced. Same question for flos with 5400K and 6400K and CRI of 90 or better. btw, I'm using high frequency electronic ballasts at 60khz.
  7. Check out this place... http://ahsupply.com they offer high speed electronic ballasts and reflectors for biax type flos (21" long). You can order color balanced flos from lowel if needed. A guy over at dvinfo.net has built a nice 4x55watt kit with around 2K output. No flicker. His kit was very much like a Diva set.
  8. When planning on using portable genies, either from Honda or Kipor, just make sure you get the ones where model numbers end in 'i'. These are rated for sensitive electronice equipment. I think the 'i' stands for inverter and provides consistant voltage, amps and wattage within spec. On the Hondas', sustained power is 80% of peak (ie 2000i is 1600 continuous). Kipor which has similar models and are less expensive, uses a slightly different scheme, so you can't depend on their model numbers to indicate sustained and peak output. So check the specs on Kipor before purchasing. Their 3500ti is becoming very popular. The sustained vs peak is because of their use in the RV market. When you turn on an Air Conditioner in a Travel Trailer or something similar, there is a sudden increase in demand until the AC gets ramped up. These gens were designed to handle that sort of sudden increase without hurting other equipment. Turns out they work great for film/video too.
  9. I don't mean to show any disrespct to any ones experience here, but it seems many can't see the forest for the trees'. Maybe too much experience is getting in the way. ergo...If you don't like the rails, call a machine shop, provide them with plans and some nice billet aluminum and customize to your hearts content. You want Ari style connections, make one. Smaller, flatter, lighter? Make one. This camera lends itself to that sort of customization. Don't like looking like a tie fighter flying down the street, change it. Shouldn't really cost that much simply because of the way it's designed. That fact the the rails are included in the base price is pretty cool in itself. Not fanboy and not, I repeat, not, trying to start a flame war. Joe C.
  10. Mandys is usually better than craiglist, but no reason you can't post on both. You might have a better time finding one on Mandy.com without having to post a job offer. Lots of talent in NYC to choose from.
  11. btw, thanks for the book reference, I'll have to buy that since Kubrick is one of my fav film makers.
