  1. I agree it seems that your shutter is out of sync. http://www.lightbreeze.co.uk/SP%2016%20Synchro.pdf Pav
  2. I have about 10 rolls of EXR 50D double perforated film. Pav
  3. I think the Aaton Minima is a very good camera, its main drawback as you mention, is the special loads it needs, I haven't found the viewfinder or the noise an issue. A while ago someone mentioned that they had made a magazine for the Minima so that it can accept normal 100ft loads, I haven't seen it myself. Pav
  4. Batteries for the ACL has been discussed a lot here please see; http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?showtopic=69751&hl= Pav
  5. I started to use Cinelab when it was Bucks, I told them that I was just an individual and wasn't going to send in a lot of film, probably 800ft each time at the most, Cinelab is small and intimate, the staff there is very helpful, I always am in touch with one person, they offered to show me around in the lab, I went down and had a tour, I was very impressed, their quality is excellent and they are very nice and helpful. The cost of processing, scanning and quality at Idailies wasn't different, but I felt they lacked people skills. Idailies is now the Kodak Lab in London, they are now pretty helpful too. Pav
  6. The steadiness of the 50ft mag cameras seems to be surprisingly very good. Pav
  7. You're right there is very little information regarding this camera, we don't know how loud it is and in it's smallest configuration using 100ft on cores it seems complex as I think you need a few pre-loaded mags when you're filming otherwise it seems too fiddly. I contacted Visual Products, they told me that the camera sold a while ago, but the web page pops up when you do a search for the EMP camera on Google, they have no other information on the camera. I can see that in today's market this camera would work, but it lacks a reflex viewfinder. On another note I have started using old 16mm 50ft magazine cameras with single perf film, loading it in a simple way - not the preferred Kodak way and getting very good results, these cameras are very cheap, small and surprisingly quiet. 8. Has anyone ever seen or used one of these cameras; https://www.pacificrimcamera.com/rl/rlRichterMisc.htm Pav
  9. If it works that's great, I know very little about electronics, but I'd still be worried about any long term damage this may do. Pav
  10. Mine is from the 1980's, personally I agree that it's probably not a good idea to use a higher voltage in an older camera. The battery mentioned; the Proaim Brick External Battery for Blackmagic Pocket Camera sounds perfect. Pav
  11. I have made small holes in the yellow cap to feed the neg and pos wires then I've just taped the cap to the battery. They have got a bit expensive, but I think these seem okay; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Canon-NI-MH-Charger-NC-E2-NP-E3-EOS-1D-1DS-MKI-MKII-MKIIN-1D-Mark-II/263507319134?hash=item3d5a42995e:g:zdsAAOSwG7Fai0Zf https://www.ebay.com/itm/CANON-NI-MH-CHARGER-NC-E2-FOR-NP-E2-AND-NP-E3-NI-MH-BATTERY-PACK/173159526656?hash=item28511cb100:g:IaYAAOSwGJFahGxp
  12. It's the XLR cable, the ends are just taped to the neg and positive poles of the battery. Pav
  13. I don't think they are expensive just checked and they are about £25 from Ebay, I bought two and you can also get chargers for them too. You can get 25fps with them, they last a long time, plus they are very light. Pav
  14. I use a Canon DSLR [NP-E3] 12 volt battery with my ACL, which is attached to the camera with a velcro. Pav
  15. This is great, but as someone has already asked 'why do want to do this' especially since there are so many 16mm cameras out there. Pav
  16. I run the AFA in Birmingham and we offer help and support with both amatuer and professional, 8mm, Super 8, 16mm and 35mm, please contact us. Pav
  17. I have used other cameras, but the ACL has been great, I bought the camera in stages, first I bought the camera body, it was converted to Super 16, the viewfinder I use with it is from a CP-16, I bought a small motor, some 200ft magazines some 200ft daylight spools off Ebay and recently the ergonomic handle, I use a 12 volt battery from a Canon DSLR. The camera is great, I was intimidated by it first, but it's not big, works great and produces stunning images and is ideal for filming dialogue. Pav
  18. I have never used a K3, I would suggest get and ACL, these camera can have issues too, but they are small cameras which I like, ideal to take out and about, especially with the 200ft magazines, they are quiet perfect for filming dialogue and being a C mount the ACL can easily accept virtually any lens via an adapter. Pav
  19. Super 8 was cheap for the amateur and hobbyist, today most amateurs and hobbyist are using DSLR's. Kodachrome in the UK was sold with processing included and that made it much easier to use. In recent years Super 8 has gradually become more expensive, today you are paying for the film stock, processing these costs keep on going up. Negative film has to be scanned the scanning can be costly and the total cost can be as much as 16mm. Granted the equipment can be better, more portable and cheaper than 16mm. Pav
  20. Most of the 16mm I use is negative film so having an editor has never been essential, but recently I needed to find a 100ft roll, the lab had spliced several 100ft rolls onto a core. I bought a Murray 8/16 editor off Ebay, it has an 8mm and a separate 16mm gate. Pav
  21. This is great, but I can't click on the Vimeo link. Pav
  22. Does he BBC still have a dedicated HD channel? I am not sure but I think BBC HD doesn't exist anymore as it seems that both BBC1 and BBC 2 get transmitted as SD and HD simultaneously, I believe all the SD content is up-scaled. Pa
  23. It is interesting that Super 16 as listed on Page 8 of the BBC's 2017 specifications is not considered to be HD or UHD no matter what processing or transfer systems used. So does this mean that all the hype in 2013 that Uk’s broadcasters will accept programmes originated on Super 16mm film for broadcast on high definition channel was wrong? Pav
  24. It certainly seems a challenge to carry all that film stock, but still doable. I am not sure it’s fair to say that 16mm looks better than digital or that digital looks better than 16mm, that's an old subjective point of view and a never ending debate. Both systems look very, very different from each other, Brazil with Michael Palin looks very different to the Himalaya's with Micheal Palin. Pav
