  3. Sad indeed. I have a couple of Moviolas as well. Alas, film has gone the way of the Do Do. Lamentable.

  6. I have a Kem 35mm 8-plate table in very good shape. Both side leafs, picture head and speaker included. Local pick-up here in Glendale, CA. $300 note - the pic is not the table I have. I'll have pics of mine up tonight. Mine is actually in a little better shape. Best, Kelley Cross (323) 580-1555
  7. Hello all, I'm clearing out various goodies from my shop. I've got a chest of some 5245 (50D) Kodak stock that I never got around to shooting. All short ends -- probably around 10,000 ft. total. Bought around 7 or 8 years back now. Been kept in cool dry environment. I have some other stocks from the same era as well. Best, Kelley Cross (323) 580-1555
  8. That’s a very good point, and one that was brought up to me by a friend as well. I put a call into one of the old guard at Mole Richardson to see if I could glean any info. I believe that most of the arc lamps were DC although some were AC powered. I think in addition to Mole, there was a company called Beattie. There could be a host of elements to contribute to this artifact, but I think with bringing in an arc lamp into the test is a good start.
  9. Kind of an esoteric question, but I’m on a project where I’m trying to emulate a mid 30s look. One of the aesthetics I’m after is the frame to frame variegation in exposure. As I examine some captured plates, I can see an inconsistency of upwards to a 1/2 stop and more between them. I realize there are a myriad of factors that could be contributing factors, (a shiny pressure plate, faulty shutter, uncoated Cooke Speed Panchro’s, and on and on). But as a starting point, I’m wondering if “mildly” creating some inconsistency with the supply voltage to camera might be a starting point. I'm sure consistencies in voltage from the 30s is not what it is today. I’m beginning some tests with a Mitchell BNC and come Cooke lenses. Also, I want to achieve all effects and artifacts in camera, or photo-chemically. No digital. Attached are three plates of Gregg Toland’s “Les Miserables”. A good gauge, for me, of the variegation is the pattern size of the key highlight on Fantine's forehead. best, Kelley Cross
  10. Exactly David -- 5.6 max. with the rear attachment. Sans the oblong bokeh and horizontal flares, I was hoping to cut in with the zoom footage and make it somewhat seamless. There won't be a lot shot with the zoom -- just a few long shots and close ups. I guess I'm going to go ahead and invest in setting this lens up.
  11. I thought I’d throw this thread out for discussion. I’m about to start a production with my round front Lomo anamorphics (35, 50 and 75) with my Canon 7D along with film to be shot with my Kinor 35H (35mm Russian camera similar to Movicam). Lenses have all been collimated and serviced by Paul Duclos and function wonderfully. I also have a 25-250mm Lomo zoom that is remarkably crisp. Paul stuck it on the bench and focus was nice and sharp all the way through. I have a rear anamorphic attachment for this lens that will take some doing (and expense) to mount to the rear of the zoom. I’ve been told that this zoom with the rear attachment will not cut in nicely with the round front primes as I would ostensibly loose “the look” of barrel distortion and substantially less (and different) lens flares that the round front primes provide. Was wondering if anyone had experience or thoughts on this. I’d love to use the longer focal lengths from the zoom for close ups (150mm and up) and matching lens flares along with the soft look of the round fronts would be a plus. I know I could do some things in Shake or AE to emulate this, but would obviously prefer to do everything in camera. Thanks, Kelley Cross www.julysun.com
  12. Hello All, There used to be a lab here in Los Angeles called RGB that was located on Highland. They've since gone under. Does anyone know of a lab that will process MP film bulk loaded from 36 exposure canisters? Also I was wondering if anyone who had done this type of testing found either 1/30 or 1/60 to be closer to replicating 24 fps shutter.
  13. I've recently picked up a Spectra Tricolor Temperature Meter. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this and perhaps had some insights as to how it would rate against the meters from Minolta and Gossen. It's been calibrated recently and my daylight and tungsten readings seem to indicate accurate correction as the filters used are producing nice results from the lab. Just not sure how reliable this device is and if it warrants spending the money for the more expensive temp meters on the market.
  14. That sounds interesting Adam. What sort of contract? Do you do the conversions?
  15. I'm curious as to whether anyone has shot with both an arri bl-4 and a kinor (35 h or c) and could describe some differences. I just purchased a kinor and plan to do two projects in September. I've tested about 1,000 ft. so far and the registration seems rather solid. The projected prints are nice. My limited experience with the arri was nothing but great. An excellent camera and obviously very quiet. There is a fair amount of noise from the Russian camera in comparison but for shooting exteriors, it doesn't seem to be an issue. The lomo lenses are comparable to the Zeiss in terms of sharpness, in my opinion. I would love to get some other thoughts. Thanks, Kelley Cross
