  1. JUST GOT A ROLL BACK FROM THE LAB ( PLUS X REVERSAL 7265), WATCHED IT ON MY PROJECTOR AND ALL THE THINGS I WORRIED ABOUT ( EXPOSURE, ZOOM LENS TRACKING ETC.) ARE JUST FINE. ON THE OTHER HAND I OBSERVED STARTING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROLL, ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FRAMES (BUT NOT ON THE EDGES) AND THEN ALL OVER THE FRAME, WHAT I WOULD DESCRIBE AS "SNOW EFFECT". IN MY HUMBLE OPINION IT DOES NOT APPEAR LIKE A CAMERA FAULT (LIKE DIRT OR SRATCHES) AND I FEEL THAT PERHAPS THE FILM HAS BEEN "COOKED"A LITTLE TOO MUCH IN PROCESSING.... EVER HAPPENED TO ANYBODY ELSE ? GIVE ME YOUR OPINION ON THIS. THANKS A LOT GIOVANNI
  2. Hi Tim, I am sure you are right about the battery. The original one (no longer available) was 1.35V and the replacement I could find is 1.5V and obviously alkaline.... What i remain curious about is if I correct the 1,5 to 2 f stop discrepancy between the lens meter and my reliable hand held meter, by lowering the ASA setting on the lens dial, can I then trust the lens to expose properly while in automatic mode ? thanks Giovanni
  3. THANK YOU Clive, I was waiting to hear from you before throwing that manual in the trash. As a matter of fact I shot a test today following your advice and I am picking it up tomorrow from the lab. Unfortunately the POE lens galvanometer must be out of order as it keeps consistently showing 1 to 2 stops more. I am wondering, and I'd like your opinion on this, if I re-calibrate the galvanometer on the lens (by setting the ASA dial to a lower ASA setting) so that it matches my hand held meter, can it then be trusted to expose automatically adjusting its iris in a correct way? many thanks Giovanni :) :)
  4. I am using a kern vario-switar 16 -100 1:1,9 f16-100mm POE BOLEX H16RX on a BOLEX REX5 camera Lens settings: 24fps asa 50 shutter open I am checking exposure agaist a Sekonic L-508 CINE zoom master spot meter Spot Meter Settings: 24fps asa 50 Shutter angle 135 degrees I am shooting a gray card. WHY is the lens galvanometer showing f 5.8 and the spot meter f.4 ?? I am worried about this as I have an upcoming shoot where we are planning to use this lens in auto mode. Could it be that the lens galvanometer is not calibrated ? If I set (by moving the asa dial) the lens galvanometer to read the same as the hand held spot meter is it an acceptable solution? all your suggestions and advice are welcome. Thank you :(
  5. Thank you Clive ! I thought there was something wrong! However, let me send you the page of the BOLEX manual I was reading and tell me what you think. Thanks Giovanni Snapshot_Page_3.tiff.pdf
  6. What I really would like to know- carved in stone- once and for all, is: The bolex REX 5 manual says that the shutter speed is 1/80th of a second at 24fps but because of the prism deflecting 20-25% of the light passing the actual shutter speed to be used(when using RX lenses that compensate for the light loss) is 1/65th of a second. So: I am using a REX5 with a RX lens at 24fps and I set my hand held light meter at : Shutter angle 130 degrees Shutter speed 1/65th of a second is this CORRECT ??
  7. thank you Nick, I am experimenting quite a bit with different light meters and somehow getting there. 8. Thank you very much. I was able to download a manual for the lens. Now the problem appears to be with the f stop values expressed from the lens. At a setting on the lens of 50 asa and 24fps the built in meter reads f11 when my sekonic spot meter says f8 on a grey card. So I try to match the two readings by lowering the asa dial on the lens to 25 ASA. By doing that I get the same reading both on the lens and the spot meter (off a grey card). Are there any side effects if I do that ? thanks again
  9. I need to use this lens on a Bolex REX 5 but there are a couple of things I am unsure about: there is a small push button to run the camera from the lens body right below the screw-in hole to attach the "remote" start stop cable. This push button can be swung to the left and to the right against two small symbols ( two circles, one with a small black dot and the other with a big black dot in it) and appears to affect the built in metering. All info about how to use this properly would be greately apreciated. Thank You
