  1. Hello everyone, I am about to shoot a doc with the HV30. My question is about the 24 & 30 progressive modes. Are these true 24/30 P? Is there any advantage gained by using these vs. the HDV mode? Also, any suggestions or comment regarding this camera is more than welcome. Thanks Amit http://www.amitbhattacharya.com
  2. Hello, Thank you Brad & Stephen for your reply. 6 months does sound extremely long but I gather that's fairly common in India. Anyway, I don't have the job yet so I have my fingers crossed. Take care, Amit
  3. Hello All, I wonder if anyone can give me an idea of the salary range of DP's in India. The project is a Bollywood studio movie with name actors. It's scheduled to shoot for 6 months. I know, there is no one answer but I just want to have an idea. I have never worked in India therefore have no sense of what is too much or too little. I am based in Los Angeles. Thank You
  4. very impressive. liked the shots from inside looking out, especially the first time the kids sit down with grandma in a long low angle shot. high angle, a little overused. kudos to all of you for capturing the fairy tale mood. keep it up and good luck.
  5. Hello Everyone, I am wondering if someone can shed some light on a problem I have with my reel on the web. The black level is too high. I am on a Windows based computer and used Premiere Pro to edit. I created a quicktime file using h264 codec to compress the Premiere avi file. When I look at the reel on my website the blacks look grey. I had posted a Windows Media file previously and that looked just fine. Is it true that the same quicktime file can look different on computers using different OS (Mac vs. PC) ? Isn't h264 supposed to be able to adjust automatically? I would love to have some advice on how to fix this problem if possible. Thank you. Amit Bhattacharya amitbhattacharya.com
  6. A generic name for these blubs is 'photoflood'. They are made by various manufacturers under different brand names. I think the ones made by GE are called 211 (75W), 212 (150W) and 213 (250W). There is also one called BCA which close to daylight balance. All these are available in professional photography stores or better still, in film related expendable outlets.
  7. Hi Everyone, I am glad that this discussion is going on about compression for the web. Thanks Chayse for the specs. I am going through the same problem as David. Trying to figure out the best compromise between picture quality, file size and download problems. So far I have only experimented with a 50mb wmv file on my site. What baffles me is that why some people are able to see the reel with no problems, for some it stops halfway through and some are unable to download it at all. Is it the server I am using, Windows vs. Mac computers, the type of modem people have. I may just have to pay a professional to deal with it! Amit Bhattacharya amitbhattacharya.com
  8. Thank you Frank for you comments and kind words. I figure I need to have a website to give producers instant access to my work rather than only rely on regular mail. As you know in this business it's not easy to get work unless you are at or near the top; and I am far from it. I looked at your site. Nice work! Amit Bhattacharya amitbhattacharya.com
  9. Hi Everyone, This is regarding my previous post inviting your comments on my website. I realized later that I forgot to insert my website as a link. As I said before this is my first attempt at site building. I would like to know if you have any problem watching the reel, the image quality and other technical problems. The reel is 7 minute 50mb wmv file compressed from a 1.52 gigabite avi file. Should I use quicktime or compress even more? I really appreciate you taking the time looking and sending your feedback. 10. Hi Everyone, I have finally finished building a basic web site with my reel and resume. I am using Yahoo web hosting and their site builder tool. I have no experience at this so I am not sure if I did things correctly. I would highly appreciate if any of you could take the time to visit the site and let me know if you find any problems. I am especially curious to find out if the image quality of the reel is acceptable. It's a 50mb wmv file. All comments are welcome! Thank you, Amit Bhattacharya www.amitbhattacharya.com
  11. Hello all, I am using Premiere Pro 1.5 to edit my reel. I would like to find out if there is a counter that I can reset to zero to time a clip or an entire sequence. Thank you.
  12. Thank you for your reply. I was able to figure exactly what you suggested a couple of days ago by going to the Adobe forums.
  13. You can do what I do. I only get dvd's of dailies or the finished film from my production company. I feed the component signal from a standard dvd player into an ADS Pyro A/V Link. Then I take the converted output of the ADS box and send it to my computer via firewire. I use Premiere Pro to capture, edit and burn finished dvd's of my reel. I have had no capture problems, no visible loss of quality. The ADS box is the key. Hope this helps. Good luck.
  14. Hi Everyone, I apologize if this is not the right forum. I am currently editing my reel with premier pro 1.5. I have raw footage that has the usual tc window at the bottom. I would like to get rid of the numbers with a matte or 'letterbox' that I can apply on all the shots I select. Any pointers in this regard will be highly appreciated.
