  1. Hmm, so your shooting 25fps and you want to transfer to 24P? In pal you should be cool 1:1 staying at 25fps right? Beats me, we got the old 60hz problem here in the us, PAL has it easy. Good luck, sorry not as familiar with PAL HD, especially the phenomenon of PAL 24P. Maybe David or Phil can help but I'm a lttle confused by your wording. Bryan
  2. It could be a burn correction error, when telecine CRT tubes are not replaced after a period of time it can produce unfavorable results. I would talk to your colorist and ask him about it, maybe put it up again during a supervised session. It could be a water drop problem from processing, were they processed at the same place?. Tough to say. Usually specs on the optical lens gate are out of focus, but like I said, tough to say without looking at it. Very hard to understand small random oval marks coming from telecine, unless they cleaned the film and something happened, which is usually not done when film comes straight from the lab. Try to seperate the possibilities from telecine, to processing, to in camera. Usually when something happens in camera or mag the effects will be blue or black- pre processing. Bryan
  3. There is a lot to consider. What is your final output, HD master to be burned back to film, or are you staying with your HD master?
  4. Not quite sure on the converter, are you talking about SD DVC PRO 24p? You certainly can downconvert HDCAM from the deck to 29.97 SDI and then convert your 29.97 offline edl to 24p for online using cinema tools or another edl conversion program. It mostly depends what destination deck you are using and what formats it will accept. Bryan
  5. Thank you David, Food for thought, ofcourse it can only be done when you shoot film, and I'm sure you already know but just thought I'd mention it. Is to use an optical filter in the telecine gate. It's interesting, but your highlights look different vs. in camera. I prefer the look of in camera filtering. Another thing I've read about but have not witnessed is da vinci's tool box. Anyone try this yet? Colorist Toolbox Forgive me if am going over old ground. Bryan
  6. Just wondering what your thoughts were on using the defocus key bus on da vinci 2K, perhaps in low levels, in comparison to optical diffusion. I'm not sure if you have used the defocus on da vinci, do you mean something different when you say "digital diffusion"?
  7. Were running dual 1.25 g processers with a gig and a half of Ram on OSX, you cannot do as much and as efficient as the DaVinci ofcourse but it is perfect for industrial videos that use multiple video sources on a limited budget, I found it a pleasant surprize when I first used the 3-way color corrector. It even lets you use color vectors though they are not as subtle, I hope someday they can incorporate power windows as well.
  8. Hi everyone, I used to be a member here a while back but I slacked off for a year or so. Just wanted to Hi, and I hope everyone is doing well. I'm still in Minneapolis pluggin away. Working as a freelance still photographer/videographer and media technician for the Target Corporation at the present time. It's not a bad gig but it's colder than a witches' Titty up here. I'm in a damn good mood today, just got my first color- correction job using Final Cut since I left Crash and Sues last March. No where near the DaVinci 2K- but it was nice setting up levels on an image again. The clients really liked it too so hopefully I'll get to do more. It's good to be back and I look forward to learning from you all again. Happy New Year. Bryan Jacobson bryan5246@yahoo.com
  9. (A base scratch on a negative will usually show up as white in the print or video image, as the scratch refracts light away from the scratched area. Usually wet printing or a diffuse telecine (e.g., Spirit) can minimize or even completely eliminate a base scratch.) If memory serves me correctly this is definitely the case after processing, but I believe if the scratch shows up black during telecine then the scartch occured before processing. Same as dirt on negative. I could be mistaken it's been awhile. Bryan
