  4. Hi, I sell my camera set here: http://www.kitmondo.com/used-arri-435es-for-sale-4/ref524664 Price: €5.000 + VAT
  5. Hi, Angenieux 9,5-95mm and 12-120mm are both very soft lenses, unless stopped down to f5.6 My personal favourite lens, although not super16, is Angie 9,5-57mm HEC, which has got newer HEC coating, warm colour rendition, greenish flares and breathes only a little. Of course, better lens is one of Canon's super16: 8-64mm, 7-63mm, 11,5-138mm... but if you're on a budget.
  6. Hi David, I'd go with either of Canons. Zeiss breathes a lot, and Angie has a big front element, so you'd need bigger matte box and filters. (something about 110mm I think) Canons have 95mm diameter and you can use 4x4" filters, which are cheaper. Regarding optical quality, I've used Zeiss and it's really bad wide open, so you can use it f4 upwards. Angie I haven't used. And I own Canon 7-63mm which is really a great lens, so I can recommend Canons. The 11-165 is newer version, but some folks says the long end is not so sharp.
  7. For sale is my Angenieux 9,5-57mm f1.8 HEC zoom lens. It has Arri bayonet mount, in great shape, ready to shoot. Price is 700 + shipping. I'm located in Slovak republic, Europe.

  14. Hi, I've got Arriflex SR1 super16, fully working, with Visual Products color video tap, PL mount. Super16 conversion was done by previous user in 2010 by P+S Technik. Also accessorries like Speed control unit, video sync, handles, magazines, etc. everything in custom cases. Only drawback is, I'm located in Europe, so shipping may costs a lot. What about $2700 (+ shipping) ??
  15. Regarding single-frame exposures, as long as I know, 416 can´t do it, knows only 1 fps of continous speed, SR1/2/3 needs special electronic upgrade to know it, or it existed Norris intervalometer with motor specially designed for SR1/2, but I haven´t ever used it personally. Only S16 cameras I know can handle single-frame exposures (and have capability of time-lapse shooting) are Aatons: LTR has fixed 1/4s exposure XTR+ has 1/4s - 1s and XTRprod or Minima even several seconds exposure. But they can´t close shutter while running like 435 (don´t know if 416 can handle it)
  16. Go for proper 16mm lens. I've shot once with Canon TV zoom 15-150mm 2.8 in C mount, and even comparing to the old Angenieux 12-120mm it's a garbage! Now, prices of Angenieux or Zeiss 16mm zooms are so low, you probably could afford one. Don't waste your money on processing and telecine of footage shot by cheap lens :) If you're on a budget good N16 lenses are: Angenieux 9.5-57mm (especially late HEC version), Zeiss 10-100mm T2 and even underrated Angenieux 12-120mm (but find one with high serial number-above 1.370.000- and in a good shape) And stay away from Angenieux 9.5-95mm. Just my 2 cent.
  17. Hi Francisco, I personally own one SR1, I've also got plenty of accessories, some of them is useful, but not everything is necessary :) If you want to do slow-motion or under-crank (i.e. to shoot something else than 24 or 25 fps) you need Variable Speed Unit (made by Arri), known as VSU - it's small controller with rotary knob to change fps, but isn't very accurate. I'd rather use Precision Speed Control by Cinematography eletronics. That's really a good controller and costs usually about 250 USD. Viewfinder extension is something you can really live without. But if you want to shoot sync-sound you'd need Barney for isolating sound of camera. And classic sound equipment: Zoom h4n or Tascam DR-40 field recorder Rode NTG-3 or Sennheiser MKH-416 shotgun microphone Sennheiser ew112p G3 - wireless transciever / receiver - lavalier microphone set (not necessary) Rode Blimp - zeppelin for mic Boom pole and the most important - good field audio mixer - Sound devices MixPre D / 302
  18. hi Gregg, yes, that is not a scientific test :) But it shouldn't been. Those shots was made as parts of my footage (for use in two documentaries) and I put them online just for member of this forum, so they can see real-life difference between formats :) I'm really not a fan of studio "controlled" tests of lenses and stocks etc... because on set you're working most of time under preassure and "below the ideal" conditions. I mean using filters (that lowers contrast), using old stock rather than fresh new, sun shining directly on front element... On equally lit studio you can't see how lens performs in direct contra-light (i.e. huge halation) and how is the overall "feel" of footage (as in advertising for Cooke lenses :D ) From my experience, Angie 9-57mm HEC and Zeiss 10-100 are equal lenses when stop down. You can't judge which one is which regarding sharpness (I speak about 1080p HD scan, not Vimeo stream :) ). You can find it out on color shift (Angie is much warmer, Zeiss has natural colors). For this comparision I think is much more important that all footage has got same preferences of telecine machine (Spirit Datacine) and same post-production. Quality of scan, used color corrections, used sharpening - BEFORE actual save of files to your HDD and then quality of kodek and bit rate are veeery important, when judging quality of one or other footage. And many times we are comparing apples with oranges when saying "look at John's footage on S16 and look at my on N16". I can mount Zeiss on N16 Aaton, actually I have one footage in post, but that's wide open lens so I would be fair for Angenieux
  19. FYI, here is my comparision of S16 and N16,when zoomed to 1:1.78, footage. So you can easily judge the difference. Film stock is almost the same 7207 (Vision3 250D) , post-production is same, lenses are a little bit different (but always stopped down to f4 - f5.6) so I think it can be used as a benchmark
  20. Hi, go for Aaton LTR. Together with Angenieux 9.5-57mm (especially H.E.C. version, if you can get) it's a really nice package. Ideal for handheld shooting, capable of 54 fps, time-lapse, sync sound filming, virtually silent (much more quiet than Arri SR's). I own Bolex EL, Eclair NPR, Aaton LTR and Arri SR1, but If I had to choose only one camera (and don't have enough for SR3), I would choose LTR :-) These days are so many 16mm cameras to sell, just keep searching for the right one, don't be too hasty
  21. Hi Taylor, You really want to spend money for russian equipment now ? I mean now, when price of Arriflex and Aatons are so low, then newer before. Personally I've got Aaton LTR and Arri SR1 and both are extremely precise pieco of equipment with so many good features. I had Krasnogorsk once, it's OK camera, but you know, it's russian. Every screw, every pieco of metal, it's made on some level, but on french (Aaton) or german (Arri) cameras that level it's much more higher. In extreme conditions like cold winter, you can see the difference. I've tried to shoot with russian camera once in cold (it was only -2 degrees C) but it just hadn't happened. Because camera was not able to shoot. That's just my opinion
  22. Hi, I'm offering my camera set for sale, it includes: BOLEX EL mk.II normal16 camera body. last user had it sent to Bolex switzerland to complete service. Kern Vario-Switar Compact 18-75mm f3.5 zoom bolex bayonet mount. Lens is in mint condition and has great image quality. Angenieux 15mm f1.3 C-mount lens 2x Bolex <> C-mount adapter one genuine Bolex, and one "heavy-duty" from Andrew Alden - Bolex.co.uk Arri Standart <> C-mount adapter 4x behind the lens filter holder 1x with 85 filter 1x with 85N9 filter 1x with ND6 filter 1x free Power cable to 4pin XLR (slightly damaged connector on camera side) Custom-made remote power switch ----- I'm selling this set, because I've got SR1 ant LTR sets so can't afford to have another one system, despite it's in great shape. I'm located in Slovak Republic, Europe I can offer Peli case with foam cut for this entire package for additional €120 PRICE: €900 + shipping
