  1. Hi folks, this is a poster from a project that I am working on... It is a work in progress, and I am still working on the screenplay, but I was interesting in getting some comment on it... It is representative of the aesthetic look of the film... Colors, texture and lighting possibilities... tks for the comments... and sorry for the size
  2. lol.... I know that it is quite subtle, but I did use many coloration layer to get that soft green, and desaturated look.... I don't think that shooting straight with 250D will give that color effect... it will probably be more cold and blueish, which is what I want to avoid, especially in winter.... If there is no usefull filter, I think that I will probably use After effect to achieve it... It musn't be hard to learn after all....
  3. Great job on the visual... It make us realize the potential of low budget shooting when you have some creativity and knowledge... My only reserve is about the story it self... As a DOP exercice, it is well done... but cinematographically, it is a litle bit weak... not very original.... What is the point of such film ? don't mean anything to me... not really impress But, if you work hard on a good screenplay, you have true potential... :D Don't forget that Filmmaking isn't just making good images... ----- Some Quotes: "No pretty pictures, no pretty images, but meaningfull images, and necessary pictures" -Robert Bresson- "Conscience and content must come before any technique - for any artist in any art form" -Andrei Tarkovsky-
  4. Hi folks, I am student in filmmaking and I am trying to achieve a certain look for my film... In still photography and with the help of program like photoshop, It wasn't difficult to get the approximative look that I was looking for, but how can I reach this in film... Is it all a matter of postprod. and DI process, or if we can get a similar look with filters... I don't know that much about DI, and compositing... have you any advice ? I don't have alot of money, so I cannot count on any lab or technician to doing this for me... By the way, I am shooting on Super 16mm film stock... tks...
  5. ------------- As a student my self, and shooting on 16mm film, I can say that very few fest can screen 16mm print... especially if your sound track isn't on your print... The best thing and the cheaper one is to shoot on 16mm, and get a digital transfert... ending on DigiBeta, HDcam, DVD or whatever.... Shooting super 16mm is the best way to blowup to 35mm, but $$$... and this is without all the post prod. process... $$$$$x10 And if I can say... I cannot judge your work but as a rookie filmmaker, maybe you should shoot simple, and cheap... Maybe find a good DVcam, so you don't have all the filmprocess to pass through, which is quite expensive... You will be able to edit on computer, which is way more easier... If you think about a feature film... shot on film, and ending on print. I don't think that you can do it under 50 000$ at least... maybe I' m wrong, but i'm almost sure... or maybe shoot on reversal, it's cheaper... or in black and white... And for the fest. having his feature screen, is or very expensive for the inscription fees, or very hard to be accepted... In my case for exemple, I am shooting my next project, which is a 10 minute short on super 16mm... I get my transfert on a Digital format, not sure which one yet... I'll probably end on a good DVD copie, for the fest. admission... If I am accepted in some well known fest. I'll maybe do a 35mm print... And if I can say, if you are a new filmmaker, shoot simple, and cheap... It is not your talent of DOP who will make you remark, but what you have to say, and how you say it...
  6. Hi Victor, if I can say, I am student in filmmaking myself, and after having pass over 5 years learning filmmaking, watching films after films, etc., I can tell you this... What is filmmaking for you... I think that this is the most important thing to know first... So many young filmmakers have no identity, no vision... People don't try to create, people want to imitate... Thats why we are always repeating ourself, and that the most of the film made by young student etc. are so repetitive.... Cinema is a mean of expression, with is own language... As painting, dance, sculpture or whatever.... So, if you are really dedicate to be a filmmaker, learn the language first... Read about other filmmakers, cinematographers, watch and analyse as much as you can the film that you see... I think that it was Stan Brackage who said.."I haven't see a film before I looked at it at least 50 time..." As people said before me, and with what I do totally agree is, so many great filmmakers never went to film school, what is film school anyway... The best way to learn something is by doing it, and asking question about it.... Film school will provide you technology. equipment, friends, "tools"... However, Teachers who know about their stuff are good ressources.... everything isn't all good or bad... But if you really want to know how works a film set... I suggest you to ask to be a P.A on a film near where you live for exemple.... If you want to know about DOP, read about ligthing, observe life around you, how does things react... etc... It is all a matter of logic... Filmmaking is the art of illusion, use you imagination and experiment... We are so lucky now, we can have access to so many information with forum like this one, and DVD's, etc.... If you knew how much I've learn just by walking outdoor, looking at the world around me... Light during a foggy day, color temperature during different weather, season, etc.... To make it short, What I want to say is this: Whatever the film school you will choose, it won't make of you a better filmmaker... A better technician, maybe.... it is what you have to say, and the way that you will say it who will make you a filmmaker... Whatever if you have the best knowledge of lighting, that you know every lamps name, every cameras name and pieces... it doesn't matter at all.... the best technician are not making the best film... Schools form technicians... not artists... " Conscience and content must come before any technique - for any artist, in any art form..." And Sorry for my english folks.... :D
