  1. Assuming I can get my hands on scripts, isn't there a formula used to calculate the number of pages into an amount of material? I seem to remember something from my loader days on film like that. Then as long as I can hypothesise a shooting ratio it would give me something in the ballpark.
  2. Heya team, I'm about to go in on a job as a Data Wrangler and it's been long enough for me in between wrangling to lose touch with a reasonable estimate of calculating ROUGHLY what sizes of storage space I should be looking at considering the following: - TV series (53 shooting days) - 1 camera shoot - Alexa shooting ProRes 4444 2k on SxS cards (64gb and 32gb) (standard drama, nothing particularly excessive frame rate wise) I'm fighting to get a more exact idea but no one can get back to me with a shooting ratio, script length or any other idea aside from what I know above. SO, I'd be keen to hear if there are any estimates out there from people with a better memory/ more experience than me. otherwise, would appreciate if anyone could point me in the right direction of some resources that have a method for working out a vague calculation based on those bare essentials. Is there a rule of thumb? cheers
  3. Another annoyingly specific problem with a copy of Double Data When I start up the program there is already a source selected from a previous production however when I try to delete it, it simply won't budge (by either highlighting it, clicking "-" or the "X"). I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it many times with the same result. I wanted to try using my registration number on a trial version to see if that would sort it but no matter what I do, that source keeps coming with it to taunt me. what am I missing here? I have searched the computer for any remaining files to be deleted but have come up with nothing in the search. the version of Double Data is 2.2.1 running on a Mac with 10.9.4 I have tried to more comprehensively delete the software with App Zapper and since then I'm not even able to find it inside the Applications folder and can only access it by searching for it in the Spotlight function. I have tried reinstalling the older version (1.1) also with the same problem (not appearing in the Applications folder). I've already passed this question onto the Night Sky support but have received no response as of yet (sent a few days ago). We would all appreciate the thoughts of any of you more computer savvy than I. cheers! Marcus
  4. any standard spigot will do the trick if you don't need to be fancy about it. might need to convert the 3/8 thread size to 1/4 on the WCU end.
  5. just curious, in what circumstances aside from perhaps having a ridiculous heavy camera/ lens or requiring a very specific degree of panning/ tilting would one require a gearhead? does it come down to personal preference or is there something I'm completely missing?
  6. An Astro or Leader can do it. can't remember which. possibly both. older models are kinda clunky tho (much bigger than 5 inch n bulky). good for reference by a video split for scopes though.
  7. more questions I just couldn't dig up an answer for that I'm push on to here. what is the purpose of H/V Delay on onboard monitors? I've been able to read what it does but still am not certain why you would need to use it if someone would care to clarify. and why would you use overscan on a monitor? cheers
  8. thanks for the quick reply. now I'm just curious, why would someone want to extract 1.85 from 1.78 instead of there being a regular letterboxed 1.85?
  9. silly question...just really wanted to know why the unit uses two cables is all. not important. it just keeps me up at night and I can't find the answer...
  10. can the C300 output 25p? I know it can record 25p internally but if using an external recorder is it possible? would you just record 50P then?
  11. I might be heading into early senility here but does the 1:85.1 frame guide seem wrong to any C500 users that can confirm? If I'm not mistaken, the camera shoots in 1:78.1 (16:9), so the 1:85.1 guide should be slightly letterboxed but on the camera I'm currently toying around with, frame guides appear on the vertical edges and that seems like it shouldn't happen. is this a firmware bug or am I missing something?
  12. Howdy, an oddly specific question but I thought I'd throw it to you (I haven't been able to find the answer myself or on the net). It's not urgent so I haven't approached ARRI with the question yet directly. I haven't been able to load a HS license onto an Alexa Plus. The license has been purchased and downloaded. I have formatted and prepared the SD card through the camera (running the latest firmware) and have copied the license file (for the correct serial number of the camera) into the License folder of the SD card. However, after inserting the card into the camera, I try to select it through the Licenses option to add and it doesn't not register the file as being there at all. The camera successfully records to the SD card (frame grabs, system info etc). I have tried different SD cards with the same result. Two possible solutions I haven't had the chance to try yet are: trying with different cameras, re-installing the firmware or trying with previous firmware versions or trying to load frame lines or looks to see whether they don't register either. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to earn some karma points here. Cheers
  13. Good afternoon, I've just recently been confirmed to 2nd AC a TV pilot shooting out of town in the country (most likely much of it exteriors) for 5 weeks and I need to put together an expendables list by Monday. I have experience as a 2nd AC and have put together an expendables list before but never on this scale for a professional TV 5 week shoot. So I wanted to know from those of you who have, what your recommendations would be for any items I may be unaware of but also most importantly, what quantity! We will be shooting in an area hours away from the city (in Melbourne), so picking the odd pieces if we run dry is not really an option. It's shooting on the Alexa. Two cameras I believe (will find out by today). Thanks for your time. cheers

  15. Was just curious to know from anyone familiar with these cameras to give a little insight on how they compare. I'm a tad familiar with the Aaton XTR prod and had a brief gander at the Arri 416 and was surprised to see the mag design on the Aaton is virtually the same so it started me thinking what exactly puts either camera ahead of the other in terms of either specs, design, functionality etc. then also not having had a look in on the film side of the Aaton Penelope I was curious to see where it sits amongst the other super 16mm cameras. anyone?
