  1. Second that. Many thanks and have the best possible birthday! Cine.com is one of the best forums I have ever found on the web! Three Cheers, Dave
  2. Wow! I got my 26, quite a nice one that is, for around 300 Eu a year or two ago. Amazing what these lenses are worth these days... Cheers, Dave
  3. You can't change a film stock's grain. Period. What you can do on high speed film is activate smaller grains by overexposing. These smaller grains will then fill the space between the larger grains and make the grain structure less apparent. The only way to reduce grain is in post. But since you're shooting 35mm this won't really matter. Regards, Dave
  4. Hi John, if you prefer a negative that is a little more dense you could rate it at ISO 40. But I wouldn't overexpose it by one stop. On 5201 you'll hardly notice any grain so the usual 2/3rd over used for 500T isn't neccesary either. I'd really suggest getting some 5207 as well, because 50D will not be much fun in the morning and late afternoon. I learned that quite the hard way in Cape Town last year. I only had 7219 and 7201, but I was lucky to have a f1.1 lens! Regards, Dave
  5. Hi David, the AS-1 is actually a Manfrotto 050 light stand. You might try and find some used, but I guess you're SOL with finding soemthing as good/better and cheaper. All the cheaper stuff I worked with was too flimsy or not reliable enough for me. Cheers, Dave
  6. Perfect. Thanks Alain. Sad that we have to take such measures! Regards, Dave
  7. Hi folks, a friend recently asked whether I knew of any place doing a Super8 wet gate telecine? I told him no, none that I know of. What about you? Thanks, Dave
  8. Nice one Leo! Thanks for that tidbit. And of course thanks to your too, David! I just love old school in camera tricks... Have you guys seen the doco on Clouzot's L'enfer? Regards, Dave
  9. Austrian lathe? Emco? Regards, Dave
  10. Hi folks, http://twitter.com/DavidAuner Regards, Dave
  11. Hi Dimitri, am in the same boat you are in. Which is to say I might direct a couple of short films or whatever, but I want to be a cinematographer and nothing else. I guess there's people who want to direct and then there's those who don't, I'm guessing your result is a coincidence! Cheers, Dave
  12. Hi Edward, nice stuff! Was the out-of-focus effect on the shot with the house done with vaseline on the lens? And why didn't you shoot on true B&W stock? Cheers, Dave
  13. Hi Xax, fabulous work, as always! We still need to meet for that beer! Gimme a call these days! Cheers, Dave
  14. No, as far as I know it is not. Only use ECC and/or registered RAM if the mobo requires its use. Cheers, Dave
  15. Hi Tom, truly awesome work! Are these preset manual exposure or do you also do bracketing? My next TL test will be with a -2/0/+2 bracket so whether I can squeeze more info out of that. I'll be doing a 24 hrs thing, so exposure will vary more than most of your shots though. Are the pans stepper motor driven? Regards, Dave
  16. Hi David, do a search of the boards. You'll find a whole of detail and pros and cons of the Diva and the other flo fixtures quite recently. Cheers, Dave
  17. Hi Ram, I can relate to what you are saying. These aren't seasoned pro actors, but amateurs or beginners. So please bear with that. @John: Thanks! Regards, Dave
  18. Hi John, thanks a lot for that line and praise. Mind if I put it in my signature as a quote? Cheers, Dave
  19. I don't know if the camera I used was a 200a. Yeah, nice stuff. That fits what I have heard and seen so far. I love low light cinematography. I think what you DO NOT show matters at least as much as what you DO show! Cheers, Dave
  20. Yes, that actually why I wanted to shoot this film with one. People telling me again and again that it was well suited for darker stuff. Never had the chance to shoot narrative with it before. And when I started shooting on the HVX I was dreadfully afraid of noise in the shadows. But it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. I tried to have just a little exposure in the blacks still, hope it turns out nice in the final grading! Regards, Dave
  21. Hi mate, had you not specified what this was shot on I'd have guessed S16! Now, I haven't much experience with 35mm, never shot anything myself, but still, I am very surprised to see that amount of grain! Are you sure it's not on the neg as well? Maybe their soup was off that day? To me it looks almost liked pushed, especially on that first still! Cheers, Dave
  22. Hi Adrian, nice compositions and staging on these. Love the one with the neon sign! I am however, but quite surprised how grainy some of these are. Especially the first one, the close up of the girl. What did you rate it at? Did you push? Or was the film old? Cheers, Dave
  23. Hm, I guess he uses it to shoot stuff. ;) I actually met him on a live concert shoot where he operated alongside me. He usually doesn't gaff, but did internships with some companies here as an electrician. And there wasn't much to do on that shoot anyways. Funny that I own about 8k worth of lighting stuff and then use so little on most shoots. Less is more! Cheers, Dave PS: Funny thing is that the EX-3 wasn't properly insured when it died. So they had to buy the rental guy a new camera! :D
  24. Hi Adrian! Thanks. The whole thing was shot on my gaffer's HVX200. I had planned to shoot on an EX-3 but same camera fell DOWN A STAIRCASE the very day before my shoot! So thanks to my gaffer Simone for saving my rear end that day by bringing his camera! Oh and should I ask Carmen if she knows you? :D Cheers, Dave
  25. Oh, forgot to mention, these are straight from camera. No grading done. Here some more: Cheers, Dave
