  1. I've got this lens. If you come across the anamorphic adapter for the front please let me know.
  2. Agreed Robin... the naming and marketing of some of their products seems to be aimed at 12 year old boys. Never understood where that was coming from.
  3. A lot of negativity regarding the users of this camera. Weird. It's just a tool. I have filmed some very good images with the Red Epic at 5K HD setting. There can be noise in very low light situations but overall I found it to be a well made professional camera system (it had the Pro IO unit on it which gave it XLR inputs). Set the fans on silent record.
  4. So happy for him that he finally took home the gold. His work is an inspiration.
  5. The insurance carrier I've had for more than the last twenty years has dropped insuring film/tv gear. They were a good company. I only had to make a claim twice in all those years and they stepped up to the plate and covered the losses without issue. That is not always the case with some insurers. I'm looking for a new company to insure my camera, lenses and equipment. I thank you for your advice as to who has been great and who to avoid.
  6. The work you're doing on this show is fantastic. I really enjoy it.
  7. Glad you got paid! I was going to suggest what I've done in the past, which is to start with a letter from a lawyer suggesting legal steps will be taken if payment isn't made. Usually a certified letter from a lawyer lights a fire under them.
  8. Cool stuff. It's nice to see you using your talent artistically. It's not so much about telling a story but creating a mood with the images and music. I like the B&W. Also some very nice composition. Thanks for sharing.
  9. It was fun filming this no budget feature last year. It is a thriller about... actors!! What could be scarier? If you enjoy it let me know. If not, let me know. Always happy to engage in some learning! [media]
  10. I filmed this with my friends at Scorpio Film Releasing as a Halloween Greeting card. Enjoy! https://vimeo.com/109718290
  11. I had some great experiences at the Maine Workshops. Didn't seem like a scam to me and had a great indepth lighting workshop with Cinematographer Rob Draper ACS. They also have master classes with top DP's. My experience there was many years ago but I think the set up hasn't changed.
  12. This has been a very interesting read. My personal experience is similar to many of you, though I still have my youthful enthusiasm even after 30+ years as a cameraman. I love what I do and feel lucky that I've been able to do so many cool things and get paid for it. I started in the news business. I covered wars for NBC. That was the first pigeon hole. As I moved into docs many said you're a news cameraman, you can't do docs. Then I started doing corporate. Again the same deal... you don't know how to do that. The same with TV shows etc., etc. Persistence, good attitude and a love for what you are doing is helpful. I don't do news anymore but still get on docs, which can be great, and corporate gigs and TV shows (non narrative but not reality). I do the occasional low budget commercial and have been doing very low budget indies as well. It's a chance to be creative. And that prior news and doc experience has been good training in how to get things done fast, if necessary. BTW, Sean Bobbit, who I worked along side in Beirut in 1982 was a news cameraman. 12 Years a Slave shows that the pigeon holes are bullshit! Talent is talent. But I still have to find work that pays, as the creative stuff doesn't, for the most part. I'm not in IA so I don't do the union jobs, and I've yet to came across a job that would make it worthwhile to join (ie in making the giant join fee for a DP). I've been an owner/operator for 20 years, though I'll take work without my gear if I like the job. Of course I make more if I can use my own. We are seeing a lot of changes in this business but I don't look at it as dire. I think a lot of opportunities are going to open up. Though I agree it is a difficult time to be getting into the industry. I wouldn't recommend it, but my daughter is currently in college and is doing the media route. If she really wants it and loves it and is willing to do what's necessary, she'll do fine. Sure, I'd love to have the opportunity to do a real budget feature, though I'm usually the oldest guy on the indie sets, so may have missed that boat. But I'm still making a living, paying the mortgage (my better half works too), making new friends and connections and having fun. I'm constantly trying to learn more and really value input from guys like David Mullen. I try to keep up on new camera tech and lights and still go to NAB every year (it's a business expense) to see what's coming and network with friends around the world. This is still a great business we are in.
  13. Red One #1294 is available for sale and will be ready to be in your hands on May 11. It is an M sensor and available for upgrade to M-X sensor. Currently it has 510 hours on it. 14. This Fujinon 13x4.5 HD 2/3" broadcast zoom lens is pre-owned but in excellent condition and has just recently been tuned up with factory service at Fujinon. This is one of the best wide angle broadcast lenses on the market. Though I would like to keep it, I'm just not doing enough 2/3" work to keep it busy. As well as on broadcast cameras, I have used this lens effectively with the Red One in 2K mode with a 2/3" to PL adapter and it works flawlessly. The glass is very clean, no marks at all. This lens retails for over $25K and you don't find many on the used market. $14.5K including shipping. getken@gmail.com
  15. The HD-SDI output on the Red from what I understand is for monitoring only and does not represent what the camera is actually recording. Seems to be a very flawed test IMO and quite unfair of Rodney to post such a stunt in the first place. If you're going to do a test and have the kits available, do it correctly. What was posted seemed meant to be inflammatory and is BS. It shows nothing.
  16. Red One Digital Cinema camera #1294 (already executed for Epic), eligible for M-X sensor upgrade (M-X upgrade is available now for this camera) is for sale.
