  1. The film is grainer and the colors are less saturated than the K40. I think you are right on with describing the pastel look. I think that using an 85B filter rather than a 85 (85A), would improve this. Paul
  2. ;) I just got my first two rolls of super 8 Ektachrome 64T back from Dwayen's. The good news is that my Bell & Howell 2144-XL meters perfectly with the 64T notching. This film however does not have the resolution of K40. The color was good though, even with an 85 filter. I would be curious to see what would happen when this film is pushed 1 or 2 stops. I wouldn't think it would get too much grainer. I guess we should just be happy that we still have a reversal stock in super 8
  3. :) John Pytlak, if you're out there listening, has Kodak ever considered selling the rights to manufacture Kodachrome to someone else?? I think it could be a win win solution for everyone if we could find a small company to take this over since Kodak is giving it up. Lets have Kodak sell the rights to a reputable company for $1.00. This company could resurect this beautiful film and maybe even offer Kodachrome 25 again. Kodak could save face and alot of us would be happy again. Am I a dreamer or what?
  4. :) Has anyone tryed this new film yet?? What do you think? Is it OK to use the built in 85A filter or do you need to use a lens-front screw on 85 filter????
  5. There are probably more experienced cinematographers than I that could give you advise, but it sounds like by setting the camera at 400 ASA, you are using the camera's light meter. It's all realative. The camera can only open the aperature so wide, so even if you set the film speed slower, you only expose the film so much. By pushing the film during the processing to say 800 ASA, you might have more latitude. Are you using any lights? The light meter will tell you everything. Use the manual mode on the camera. Paul
  6. <_< What type of camera are you using? I would suggest using a good light meter to help determine apperture settings and shutter angle. You may need to push this film depending on available light. Good luck! Paul Mattei
  7. :( I see that Kodak now lists only 1 color reversal stock on their website. As an amature cinematographer, I have been a fan of 16mm kodachrome 40. They list only the new 100 speed daylight Ektachrome for 16mm. I called Kodak and they are saying you can still get Kodachrome 7270, but it is on back order. I just think that it is a shame that Kodak is abandoning this family of films. For the professional, this probabli isn't an issue, but for us amatuers, it is.
  8. John, I must confess, that I am an amature cinemeatogrpher so most of what I do is for projection from the original. I also shoot alot of 35MM slides, so I have been a huge fan of Kodachrome in general for many years. Regards, Paul Mattei
  9. John, I have been wanting to try this stock but would need 100' daylight spools. Also, I don't think that you could ever match the contrasts of Kodachrome. I think that Kodachrome also has the most accurate color registration of any reversal film ever made. I would be willing to bet that 100D is a bit warm. Paul
  10. :D I was hoping to hear from you John! This is good news indeed. In your opinion, do you feel that K40, 16MM will be in the catalog for at least several years to come?? Best Regards, Paul Mattei
  11. :( Any thought out there in the future of this film stock?? With Kodak discontinuing K40 Super 8, is our beloved 16mm stock far behind? Should I take out a loan now and fill my freezer up???? With 16MM Kodoachrome, there are currently only 2 reversal stocks available in 16mm. Paul Mattei
  12. Thanks for the info Ian! I guess you can always try it and see how it works. The price is really cheap Paul
  13. I have a Bell & Howell Filmo 70 DR. I always see CCTV lenses listed on E-bay. Will these work for shooting 16mm film? Regards, Paul Mattei

Jason, Thanks for the tip. Do these daylight spools now have to be loaded into the camera in complete darkness?? Paul
