  1. Hey guys, My boss is looking to get a new viewfinder and I was curious if anyone has seen an Arri Director's Finder adapted for PV Mount. He likes the Arri model and when I spoke to Arri they said they don't modify them. Just wondering if you guys knew of anyone modifying one before? thanks, John
  2. please change your forum name to your first and last name please... I went to Full Sail and recently graduated. I can say that the ONE thing that the school does do well is give you a great understanding of Lighting and Camera GEAR... not technique... Its really up to you to get that experience yourself. The academic side of things are severely lacking and there are a lot of classes that are a waste of time and money... and 75% of the lectures are a complete waste... but the labs and projects really give you a great knowledge of all the jobs on set and they get you lots of hands on time with the gear. If anything, FS got me familiar with the gear. If you already have experience with gear, then I recommend saving the $70,000 and go and talk to some production companies about interning.
  3. okay... so I did a proper inventory of the film and the total amount of film is actually 6,757ft. for $650 (that includes shipping) the other 250ft is a roll of 5260 that I will not be selling b/c I'll bulk load that into my stills camera... :P . these rolls are the "short ends" off of 1000ft rolls. There are no actual short ends (i.e. rolls under 200ft)... the actual lengths are listed below- 400, 300, 450, 282, 235, 300, 430, 410, 450, 440, 450, 450, 450, 450, 280, 280, 300, 400, 450 all are Kodak Vision2 5229 and have the full emulsion, roll, and batch number on each can. PM me if your interested or if you have any questions.
  4. Hey all, I have just over 6900ft of 5229 from recans and short ends that I am selling for $650 (that includes shipping). Most are in 250-400ft rolls cut from our 1000 ft rolls. They've been kept in temperate conditions. The film was ordered straight from Kodak in the last few weeks and has been kept in my apartment since we wrapped production last week. Any questions or if your interested, send me a PM. I'd prefer paypal as the method of payment to protect both myself and the buyer. I am open to bids... :D john
  5. Hey Adrian, the grain issue probably had to do with a little push to get them up to exposure. I shot on 5260 and I had some footage that was 2/3rds overexposed that came out pristine. But I had some stuff go a little under because of cloud conditions and it all came out grainy as hell when they brought it up. Hope this helps. John
  6. a distro box is a 600 or 300 amp breaker box that takes power from a generator or house power via camlocks and breaks it off into separate 100amp outputs for running power to all the lights you need. you'd usually run 100amp or 60amp whips off the distro out to your lunchboxes (smaller power boxes which splits that 100 amps down into 20amp edison plugs) or directly into the larger lights that require higher amperage to run. basically each box simply breaks the overall power of your genny/house power into smaller, and more manageable plugs. hope this helps :)
  7. Hey all, I was searching to purchase a 5D MKII online and found the body for around $2600-2300 everywhere except Supreme Camera. why is this site able to sell the 5D for so much cheaper than Amazon and B&H? Is there something in the specs that I am missing?? Or did I just find a good deal? I'm always weary of good deals...lol... i've been burned before. thanks John
  8. so my newer nikons will work on a 5D Mkii? I have a 24mm / 2.8, a 50mm / 1.4, an 85mm /1.8 and an 80-200m / 2.8 nikkors that I've recently purchased and wanted to make sure they'd work with an adaptor without issues.
  9. Hey Adrian, I recently shot on 5260 and I have the same to say as those above. Similar to 5279 but with a boost in contrast and saturation. I rated it at 320 and it looked great! Here is a still if it'll help:
  10. September 2009, with "The Baader Meinhof Complex" on the cover.
  11. I thought it was brilliant work by both Tarantino and Richardson. I found it to be Tarantino's most deft and mature work and I loved the slow tension, characters and dialogue. But to each is own...
  12. I have to disagree. I went to a showing with the Director and Lead Actor present and the audience went wild for it. Then I saw it again with my friends in a packed theater and the audience there loved it as well, then saw it again with another friend in a packed house and they all loved it as well... I guess the theater Keith went to was an exception... Blomkamp said that all the alien effects were 100% CGI with the exception of Christopher Johnson. He didn't even use green screen or tracking markers. He simply had the actors look where they thought the aliens would be and then they added them in post. The gentleman who played Christopher was completely removed in post and replaced by a pure CG alien. The shaky cam did get a little much but I thought it fit really well with the docu-style... but that is simply preference.
  13. yeah, just email him from the link on the site. I almost bought a pair recently and he responded quickly to my email.
  14. was that all available light used in those daylight scenes? those stills look amazing! I'd love to see the film when it's completed! It takes a lot of talent to get images like that with home depot lights! great composition! also, what was the lighting setup in the last still? were one of those 500w's utilized or simply a bulb change in practicals?
  15. i recommend the lite panels as well. If you go under "In Production" to my post on "The Cost" i used the Lite Panels for my in-car shots during a bright sunny day.
  16. good info. also, tony... your avatar ant got me... i tried to smush it on the screen...lol :P
  17. yeah, figured as much. I have some experience working as an AC but only on small independent production and student films so I don't think I'll look too incompetent. It'll be a great learning experience! Just wasn't sure if anyone had experience with a Camera PA who really did/knew some things that made them more valuable. (besides knowing how the Cam team takes their coffee... got that one down... ;)
  18. Hey guys, I was curious if you guys have tips for a Camera PA? I may have a job coming up and I've never worked in this capacity before. I know the things I would want a PA to do for me, but i wanted to get some more feedback from guys/gals on their likes/dislikes and pet-peeves of PA's etc... John
  19. Saw this in March/April at the Florida Film Festival and I absolutely loved it! I've been spreading the word on the film and will be checking it out again... loved the train sequence btw!
  20. lol I wish I had utilized an 80 filter on a music video I recently shot on RED... I balanced for 3200K (at 320ISO) shot at a t1.3/2 (for shallow DoF/roll focus effects) and that made my shadows (in the t .5/.7 range) noisy as hell! Learned my lesson... ^_^
  21. I attend Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL. However, this project was independently produced and shot over our summer break. We had assistance from instructors which allowed us some access to certain pieces of gear but the majority of it was rented/bought with our own funds and donations from family and friends.
