  1. You can get a pretty convincing cross process effect using curves - usually adding a S curve to two channels and an inverse S curve to the third. A quick google of 'cross process curves/photoshop' will yield plenty of examples. Experiement, but you'll probably want to reduce the blue in the mids/highs to throw it yellow, and reduce the red/lift the green in the shadows. Then contrast and saturation to 11.
  2. Thanks for the fast replies guys, I think I'll go with your suggestion above, Saul. The shot is supposed to be some awfully shot news footage by a stringer in the early 80s, which will be seen on a CU of a monitor. Reckon I'll save some stock to try it with a Bell and Howell or Bolex as well, and slowly creep the door open while shooting - just in case it works well! I'll see if I can post the results when I get them.
  3. Hi everyone, Shooting a short film in a few weeks - for a short insert I need a shot to burn out at one side and get progressively worse until it's so burnt out you can't actually see any of the image. Is this an accurate description of a leaky magazine? Is it possible to do this in camera without damaging the mag, or would it be better to do it in post? Shooting on an SR3. Cheers!
  4. Hi everyone, I'm DPing a commercial to be entered into the Kodak Student Commercial Awards. The commercial's for the Kodak Zi6 camera and our tagline is 'make visual poetry'. One of the scenes is in a field and i want to capture a similar look that's achieved in this advert - http://tw.youtube.com/watch?v=f7ZgMnph8Kk Can anyone give me some advice on how to achieve the same look? I'm planning on shooting on 500T 7219 because there are other interior locations (and we only get given one 400ft roll of stock). Will using a daylight correction filter ruin the lens flares when shooting towards the sun? Cheers!
  5. Hi there, I've been an avid reader of this forum for a while now but this is my first post so I'll introduce myself. My name's Tom, I'm a Film student at the University of Westminster, specialising in cinematography. I've shot a few films now, on both film and video (and camera assisted on several other student films). After uni I hope to work my way up the ladder to be a DoP. I've referred to this forum a lot in the past for help and have found it extremely helpful. Basically, In a few days I'll be shooting a documentary on a z1; the style is pretty poetic and cinematic and I wanted to know if there were any known or well-regarded look settings for the z1 - much like the vision02 and truecolor settings for the xha1. Forgive me if this has been discussed before, I searched but couldn't find anything. Cheers!
