  1. Hi Jason I use a kowa lens 16D on my panasonic dv camera. I needed to build a rig to support it as it weighs more than the camera  The results it produces are quite good, but you end up with more lens flare (well i did) and you need to make sure that the lens is lined up properly or else you will really notice the slant especially on horizons. When i transferred it to the computer i stretched the resolution to 1440*576. Or 720*288 also seemed to work fine as well. I'm working in PAL by the way. ps. Nice short film Justin
  2. Thanks Tony, that was exactly what i was looking for.
  3. Hi, Can anyone tell me if there is a modern replacement for the two 1.3v exposure batteries in the canon 814 or do i have to use light meter ? Thanks
  4. I'm not sure the auto expose is working on it properly. Everything just comes out very white and only when there is little light does the film look ok. I tried the dial on the side but that didn't seem to make much difference. That's why i'm looking for another camera. One thats slightly simpler to use for a complete novice like me. Me and the 6080 just aren't getting on at the moment. Which is a shame really.
  5. Could some one recommend a good super 8 camera for a beginner. I currently have a Nizo 6080 and haven't had any luck shooting with it. Everything is always over exposed. Maybe its broken or maybe its me ? So i've decided i want to get a simpler super 8 camera. One that can take modern film such as Ektachrome 64T and Vision 200T without any problems. Let the recommendations begin. Thanks Gencer
  6. Hi, i just acquired an anamorphic lens (x2) and was wondering if anyone here has created a some sort of rig system that places the lens in front of a dv camcorder with a 37mm lens. I have done a simple test with the lens being held in front of the camera and the zoom set to x3 to prevent the lens edges showing. Worked out quite well all in all.
  7. Thanks for the info. I was looking at the hama as they are dirt cheap, however as you say a tiffen is probably a better investment. I'll be mostly shooting outdoors stuff with it. Looking at my 6080 i believe its a series 2 model. It has above the lens a 0, red dot, uwl, macro (in red), macro (in white). Are the threads different for series 2 ?
  8. Hi, i'm looking into getting a polarizing filter for my nizo 6080. However i'm unsure about the tread size. I read somewhere that its an 80mm thread ? Or perhaps someone could tell me which one on this website is the correct size. http://www.hama.co.uk/products/imaging/len...isers/index.hsp Thanks Gencer
  9. Thanks Jacob, after reading that post and re-taking a look at the camera all made sense. Its a fairly simple switch on the 6080, and when its set to daylight the filter drops in front of the lens. When the switch is moved to tungsten it moves a small spring upwards which in turn moves the filter away from the lens. This picture shows the filter set to the daylight position, where as in the previous image the switch was in the tungsten position. I can now go on my road trip happily knowing that my filter switch works
  10. The other day i decided to clean my Nizo 6080, this kind of went to plan apart from when i opened the casing the switch for day light/tungsten dropped off before i had chance to note what position it was originally in. I've taken a picture with the switch set to tungsten (up position) and noticed that a filter has engaged is this correct ? Or should the filter be engaged when the switch is set to day light ? Thanks Gencer ps Dont ask why i opened that bit ;)
  11. Thanks for the advice guys. I'll be looking into the options mentioned.
  12. $20 doesn't seem that bad for shipping. I've had many items sent to me via USPS Global Priority Mail and not had any problems. I did however forget that the USA uses ntsc. Which normally isn't a problem, however in this case it would prove to be a problems as i dont have an ntsc compatible dv deck or camcorder. Where do most of you guys get your film, processing and telecine done ?
  13. Hi, mostly a question for people in UK. Is it worth importing film from the USA with process paid and telecine vs the same in the UK ? I have noticed that Spectra do film packs with all these services and it looks quite cost effective especially if you go for the reversal films. After i converted the price from dollars to pounds and did a comparison with UK suppliers it did look to be the better option. However i hadn't factored in the cost of postage and the possible customs charges. Anyone out there able to shed some light on this ?
  14. Ok i think i've figured it out now. Basically after messing around a bit with the lens off and on, i've come to the conclusion that what i'm getting is a more zoomed out image hence why i have to set the camera to macro, focus to infinity and use the zoom to focus the image. Which basically means that the final result is still a 4:3 image as mentioned earlier on in the post by Matthew Buick and Bernhard Zitz. Which means to capture widescreen footage i would need an anamorphice lens like a kowa ?
  15. You'll have to bear with me now as i'm really new to this and have just gotten confused. Right, am i right in assuming that an anamorphic lens will take a wide shot eg 16:9 or 2.35:1 and compress the image to fit onto a 4:3 area ? This is the part when i get confused. When i attach my UWL III to my 6080 and look through the view finder i can definately see more information to the left and right. This suggest to me that when its been converted to video the image will look slight squashed as its still in the orignal film format and would require stretching a little to make it look correct ? Or is it just filling in the areas of the film that the original lens doesn't get to ? Third option i've completely missed the point.
