  1. Thanks for the info. I don't know what I was thinking when i loaded my camera that day. I do work at a tv station and go to work at 4 am so I must of been very tired. I've shot lots of dv as you can guess being a camera man at a tv station. I've only shot 2 good rolls of 16 mm and lots of super 8 so real film is still new to me. I did go to school for commercial photography so I know my way around photography very well just not movie cameras. I noticed the old plastic reels were crap as soon as I saw them. I'm going to transfer with cinefilm in atlanta because they are close to home. I rewound the old film I shot and ruined and got the metal reels from them and shot 2 new rolls. I am going to send them off to telecine tomorrow I think. Cinefilm said they will send back the old reels and cans if I want and I'm sure I can get some more from them aswell. As soon as I get my footage back I'll post some good shots on my website for all to see. Don't know how much will be good. I forgot my color chart at work so I did not have one to shoot and these rolls are camera test so I can test the camera and the lenses I have. Later T.c.
  2. you know you may be right. I am crazy and I wasted 2 rolls of film. You would think I would know better since I did go to school a few years ago for commercial photography. Man I feel dumb. I'm sure thats why the take up reels dont wind right. Oh well learn from my mistake. thanks
  3. Hi. I just got my k3 yesterday. I had bought 10 rolls of double pref fuji 250d from raw-stock. I loaded a roll yesterday but it seems that the film is wound wrong on the reel. If I run the film the way the manual shows the emulsion is pointed the wrong way when I load the camera. I turned the reel around and ran the emulsion the correct way but the film does not follow the film path pic inside the camera. The film comes off the front (left) side of the reel. I ran just 1 roll and it seemed to run fine no ripped pref's or scratches. I've not had it processed yet though. Am I missing something here? Is there more than one wind to watch out for? I had no problems with the first roll but don't want to run anymore untill I make sure it's ok. I don't want to waste lots of film and transfer time to find out that I did something wrong. When the film is wound on the take up reel the back side of the film should be showing correct? The only slight problems I had was the film on the takeup reel was loose when I unloaded the camera and I lost about 10 ft of film. Is this common. Anyone have any tips. I did read through this forum but could not find this problem. Anyone have any Clips of the k3 at work? Thanks Anthony Collins
  4. Hi. These do not look to bad to me. Do you have a short clip. I've noticed that stills never look like the video does. What was your exposure. You know if you overexpose by about a 1/2 stop you can cut down the grain you see from faster films.
  5. I read somewhere that smallville was shot on 16mm. I'm not sure if that was just the pilot or what but I know they did use 16mm some time on it. Also if you look at the 1st season dvd the shows have a lot of grain. Thanks Anthony Collins
  6. Hi. I just got a k3 and am shooting a few short projects with it but I am already looking for my next camera. I've been looking at the Kinor. The only problem I see is that all the ones I've looked at ran at 25fps. Can this be fixed to run at 24fps? Is it a problem? will I need to purchase a new motor? Also can it be converted to super 16? How much trouble if it can be? Thanks Anthony Collins

    dumb Film question

Thanks for the advice. I've got a lot of time in a darkroom so I know my way around in the dark. :) I just did not want to go in a changing back every time if I did not have to. I may just do it anyway just to be on the safe side. I've got more time than I do money for film stock and reshoots. Thanks Anthony
  8. check out the fuji website http://www.fujifilm.com/JSP/fuji/epartners...roduct=41075913 you can view a demo video and also order a demo dvd from them that will help you choose what stock to use. You can also get a dvd from Kodak but you have to call them. I think kodak would do good to offer the dvd on the student cinematography page. Anyway. I am in the process or doing my own test shots of all of kodak and fuji films under different conditions. In the very near future I am going to start a website to promote my work and it will also include samples of all the film stocks. Note it will take some time to test all the stocks due to time and money but about once a month I will update the site with new samples and short works that I've done. Right now I just got my first shipment of 10 rolls of the 16mm fuji 250d that I am going to test and do short on. I myself am a kodak man. Coming form a background of 10 years of amature photography and now current photography student, soon to be cinematography student. The only thing that sucks is that my current school wants to go all digital. Anthony

    dumb Film question

Hi I have a dumb question. I just got my first order of filmstock. First time shooting 16mm, moving up from super 8. It's fuji 250d 100ft camera spool. My question is. Can I load this in low light or must I load it in total darkness? I thought that you can load 100ft camera spools in daylight but on the back of the can it's open only in total darkness. Can anyone help me out? :) Anthony
  11. thats what I thought but was not sure. Thanks Anthony
  12. Hi. Anyone know the color temp of the halogen work lights like you get at home depot? Thanks Anthony
  13. Hi I just purchased a k3 and I am going to shoot some film next week. I am going to puchase a high end light meter (l-508) in about 3 months (I'm a photography student and need one) Right now I am out of school on break and don't have access to a handheld meter but I can purchase a sekonic l-188 very very cheap. Anyway I am going to test my k3 next week and I want to get my exposure as close as I can. My question is should I purchase a l-188 or can I get as good results with the built in meter on my canon camera? I am shooting fuji 250d, I am going to meter off a grey card at 24fps. If I'm right can I not just set my ISO on my canon and set the shutter to 1/60th and use the reading I get from it or would it be better to purchase the l-188. Thanks Anthony
  14. Hi I have a few questions. What is the main difference between the 1M and 2M? I've been to commiecam.com and I see all the info but the main thing I want to know is can you use 1m parts on a 2m. I've been looking on ebay and I kind of like both of these cameras. I can pick up a 1m for around $1000. Not bad. If I purchase a 1m and then want to purchase a 2m will parts from the 1m work on the 2m such as lense, mag's, internal parts, batterys, charger? Is the loading for a 1m and 2 m the same or will I have to learn differnt ways? I'm moving from super 8 and was going to go with 16mm but I can shoot shortends of 35 for about the same as new 16mm. I'm not an advanced cinematographer and just want to shoot MOS and don't need all kinds of features but I like the thought of using 35mm. Thanks for any info you can give me. Anthony Collins
  15. I can't speak much as a working cinematographer. All I've shot are commercials and sports for the tv statioin I worked for. I can say I saw some of your work that I like but like others said it cuts away to fast to tell what is good or bad. On the other hand the puppet thing looked cool. I would also love to see more of it. Can it be purchased somewhere? Good luck Anthony
