  2. Hey guys, Just finished and posted my new website. It contains a collection of my photography, as well as my demo reel. The site itself is pretty simple and easy to get around, I dont like all the complex flash stuff. Anyway, there's more to come, planning on adding a blog page to keep people up to date on new projects, behind the scenes, and links to new videos. Check it out if you could, pass me some criticism if you'd like. Thanks alot guys www.esterod.com

  6. Thanks guys, But wish I could give ya some explanation for how we were "selling" the product, I dont know. I was never a huge fan of the concept myself, but I was hired to do a job, work as the DP, so I just worried about giving the Director what she wanted and tried to now bother myself with the fact that I thought the idea was, well, not sooo great. But thanks for your replys, and thanks for checkin it out!
  7. Hey guys, I was the DP for this Jager spec commercial and was just wondering if some of you would check it out and please leave me some feedback. Thank you much. http://www.thegermaninyou.com/video.html
  8. Its completely natural and understandable to be nervous when you are putting a part of you out there to be viewed and judged by others. You just gotta try to shake it off ya know. Try to stay positive and do the job that you are there to do. I have the same feeling anytime Im shooting one of my scripts, or even just letting people read them. I even have a bad habit of biting my thumbs in nervousness when others are watching a film that I have made. COMPLETELY NORMAL TO BE UNCOMFORTABLE. Have fun though and just remember that if you really love what you are doing, who the hell cares what others think...right? Good luck an have fun
  9. As everyone else has said, bounce, bounce, bounce. Take advantage of that big old light source in the sky and then do your best to shape it how you want. Shoot with the sun as a backlight, and fill in the rest...
  10. Luke, What sorts of lights are available to you? If you are able to get your hands on big sources then that is what I would go with. You could go with HMI, but I don't like using HMI's too much myself, just a preference. What I would do though is... First , STUDY YOUR REAL SUNSET! What does it look like to you? Just remember how things look at sunset, long shadows, light coming in at a lower angle 45 degrees or so. SO I would blast a 10k through your main window. Then I would throw up a frame of Roscoe Full Straw, or any other Warm gels you can get your hands on. Use smaller sources to throw rim lights and kickers wherever you may need them in the room. If you want a softer more full look then bounce the 10k through some source of diffusion in a 8x8 frame. After that it is really just a matter of taste, where do you want your shadows to fall? How do you want to break-up your light? How soft or hard do you want your light? There really isn't a Right way to do things, and we all have our own styles and way of doing things, so what I have found works best is to just look at how light really falls in the situation in reall life, then, add some style. Do what feels right and looks "real" to you and you can't go wrong. And if you do go wrong, well then you learned what not to do next time. As for the dust effect, without using a hazer, which would be the best, maybe a fog machine, send the fog in the room, waft it around and let it settle. The downside to fog is that it has a tendency to float away faster, especially in a big soundstage. One thing that will help though is using hard shafts of light and shooting to where your fog is backlit so that it is seen easily, but be careful not to make it look to unrealistic. if all else fails, take in a dust carpet and shake it around! ;) Anyway, good luck in getting what you are looking for, I hope I helped in some way.
  11. Tom, Can you just shoot at Magic Hour? One of the biggest and best things about that video you showed was the beautiful sun that was very evident in the frame. Having that will almost do the job for you. Then it is just a matter of using bounce to fill in the front side of your talent. If you wanna get more of a golden look in that bounce, use gold reflectors, that is what I prefer, but definitely not necessary as any type of bounce will work. Make use of your natural daylight though, because simplicity is sometimes the best thing when you are looking for something beautiful. I don't see why using a 85B filter will ruin the lens flares, but I guess it is possible that it may in some way affects them, I cant be sure about that though. But I really don't see why it would be a problem. In the end, what your looking to achieve may in some way seem hard, but it isn't. Study your light, watch what the sun does for you and then fill in the gaps, and trust in your instincts while your out there. Don't roll the camera until you feel in your gut that you've got it nailed. Good Luck and I help this helped you in some way.
  12. Terminator Salvation is shooting on the 5219 according to Kodak, so I am assuming that the director may have said something about shooting on a newer stock, and then using a silver retention process as Stephen stated above.

  14. What is the reason for wanting to maintain the reflection in the TV? Is there some sort of meaning behind it or something visually you want to be seen at some point in the story? If not then I would say dont worry about the reflection and worry more about how the story will play out with TV painted in chroma green. We had a similar problem on my last film, which was set in 1959. Unfortunately we weren't even able to get a TV from that period and since it had to be very prominent in the picture, I had my production designer build a beautiful one with a greenscreen built into the screen area. Then of course the same talented production designer created the CG visuals in post. If you wanna check out how it turned out feel free at the link below...Check out about 3:57 into it. http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=...ideoid=41503915 Hope this is of any help at all...
  15. Hey guys, Just finished as Writer/Director on my final film project for school. Please check out the film and let me know what you think. THis is the final picture lock, but this is from before going into the dubbing stage and doing the post sound in Pro Tools and final mix, this is just the sound edit from the Avid. Sorry again if this is not the forum for this topic discussion, just looking for some feedback. Thank you so much in advance for your critique. http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=...ideoid=41503915

  18. I dont know about the telecine process and what that could do. But in order to achieve the strobe effect your looking for in camera would be not to change your frame rate, but to adjust you shutter angle to 90 or 45 degrees or whatever angle suits your film in particular
  19. Hey guys, Just recently finished shooting a short film at school using Vision 3 7219. THis was my first experience being a DP and actually getting to shoot on film. Just wanted to throw up some stills and get some feedback and also give people who havent gotten to use 7219 yet, a chance to see what the film is capable of in low light, high contrast situations. Thanks in advance for your feedback. Esteban Rodriguez
  20. Thanks alot David. That is really all I needed was the IATSE Local 600 minimum, but i just couldn't find out where to find, so I appreciate your help!
  21. Hello All, I just finished shooting a 16mm short film at school and to finish out the class my instructor has asked us to create a mock INVOICE for the shoot. We are suppose to use a realistic pay rate for our job and include the source where we found the pay rate and the city, i.e. New York, LA, FLorida... I was just wondering if anyone could give me any help on the matter. I was the Director of Photography for the shoot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
