  1. Hi everyone. Happy new years! On line I found plans for this voltage regulator, but after hooking everything up, and trying to start the motor, the led on the regulator just dims and the motor does not turn. (I did modify the plans for a 8volt operation) Maybe someone good with electronics can help me out... http://www.mybitbox.com/articles/standalon...tage-regulator/ thanks!
  2. Thank you for all your answers. I'm going to look into making a voltage regulator. I like to solder and fix stuff myself so It will be fun. Oh, and how do you adjust the torque in the motor? Seems like its all connected with gears and no "clutches"...
  3. Hello everyone, I am using a 12 volt battery with my Arri 16s/b and things are running fine with the internal 100ft loads. However last weekend while shooting with the 400 foot mags, I ran into trouble because the magazine was pulling on the film too hard and causing havoc. Eventually things worked better by slowing the take up reel by using my index and thumb on the knurled rotating part but that is not a permanent solution and burns the fingers! Can anyone help me find the directions to convert the motor to 12 volts or limit the voltage coming into the motor from 12v to 8v? Would a resistor work? thanks~! -pete
  4. Good job! I fixed my 814 a while ago and it was quite an adventure. Takes patience and good tools.
  5. Looks very clean with good composition. Nice images. My only gripe is that there are some shots that are the wrong aspect ratio and are distorted (stretched horizontally) Thanks for sharing! -p
  6. http://vimeo.com/6216836 quicktime at bottom of page at: http://www.petevontews.com Thanks for taking a look at my reel, I'm relatively new to cinematography. I have been doing this for a little over two years. I am self taught and self funded. I would like to share my work and perhaps think positive of doing this full time one day. -pete
  7. This is Pete from the east bay, I'm down for a BBQ. Would love to meet some other local people.
  8. Hi Mark, I would not do open it up. I did that and I have a useless pile of parts. There is a special way to take apart and re-assemble the motor that should be only attempted by German engineers in lab-coats. :) I learned the hard way... Keep an eye on ebay, cheap motors come up from time to time. Have a great day! -pete
  9. Hi everyone, I came across some old fujifilm stock and are not having too much luck in finding a place to process this. Is anyone familiar with this film stock and where I can get it processed? Here is more info about it, and I'm also attaching a photo of the film can. fuji 8426 FUJI 16mm 8426 fujicolor reversal film tv RT100 - tungsten one side perforation - winding B magnetic striped Thanks and happy new years!
  10. Looks cool, I'd be intersted to see pics of this M42 Mount-to-Nikon Lens adapter. So it allows you to mount nikon lenses on the k-3? -pete
  11. Hi Vincent, great looking work! I have a few questions, which nikon(?) lenses were used with the camera? What type of lights were at your disposal and lastly, what was the stylizing post production workflow? thanks!
  12. Did anyone get a chance to watch this recently? They had a 25th anniversary one-time showing here in the bay area. A good classic movie that's fun to watch. The digital projection was pretty bad in my opinion, you could clearly see compression banding, the colors were flat and halfway through the movie the PC crashed or something showing a "restore the desktop" screen. Before the movie they showed a "behind the scenes" documentary and a preview for the "sequel". Overall the cinematography and story is great, I look forward to seeing more older movies on the big screen. -p
  13. Cool stuff, very experimental, great audio! Did you project the negative? I thought the negative stock was too fragile to project? I gotta try that if possible. I remember you posted"Rainy Day" that was a good one too. Thanks for sharing.
  14. Hi Jimmie, Thanks! For the car mount shots, I used a stock hvx200 mounted to the car via a suction cup kit from filmtools.com - I made a umbilical cord with rec/focus/zoom controls as well as a component video feed to a mashall monitor. I was hiding in the back seat and recording/viewing the action. In other scenes where I was able to use the M2 35mm lens adapter, I mostly used a 50mm F1.4 non AI nikon lens - the old school metal one- its fast, the optics are awesome and can be bought for less than 75 bucks used. Thanks for the feedback! -p
  15. That will be a challenging project Jonathan! Look forward to seeing the finished work. Too bad I didn't find anyone in the east bay diablo area to work with, only SF, but that's too much driving stress for my vintage vw bus! -pete
  16. An update, I added some footage to the promo. Check it out and thank you for any feedback! -pete
  17. I added some cool hot rod pics, check them out on the link below...
  18. Hi everyone, I wanted to share some footage from a project I just finished photographing. This will be my second short movie. If you are interested in the technical or other details, I'll be happy to answer any questions. http://vimeo.com/1025433
  19. Hi Ben! Your reel looks very good. Lots of exciting camera movement, great colors, awesome production design (especially the music videos). I dig the style! Did not mind the length as lots of good footage to look at. I usually watch DP reels with audio turned off as to focus more on the visuals, so can't comment on that one. I did check out the soundtrack and its not distracting to the footage. How long have you been a DP and how many people in your production team? What cameras did you use? I will bookmark your page and check back often. thanks! -pete
  20. Hello, I was looking through one of these today, and was kind of surprised that it did not function like looking through a zoom lens, but instead the frame got smaller and further away as you increase the focal length. Also there was a lot of light reflecting on the inside of the finder. Is this they way this, (and others) director's finders are supposed to function? thanks!
  21. Great looking footage! would be nice if it rained over here in dry and smoggy San Francisco area! thanks for sharing!
  22. Hi! If you plan to frame and work with a 2.39:1 format, then I would record in a higher resolution recording format like the 1080 so you have more image data, because to get the 2.39:1 aspect ratio, you will have to discard a lot of the image data in the frame. I usually shoot in 720PN which gives me great quality and gives me more recording time, but If I wanted to go with the 2.39:1 aspect ratio, I would shoot in 1080. As far as where to put the cropmarks, I would print out a page that has the different aspect ratios (like 16:9 and 2.39:1), put it on the wall, set the hvx on a tripod and when you frame up the 16:9 ratio to be aligned with the display, then you should see the 2.39:1 as well, then make a guide like I mentioned in the earlier posting. Here is a reference for aspect ratios: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio_(image) -pete
  23. Hi, My suggestion would be to shoot in 1080 for more "resolution" then crop it in post. Make cropmarks on the lcd or the monitor you will be using, but be careful not to damage the display surface. Gaff tape might work if its gentle. Also maybe a light line with a grease pencil, or make a clear plastic overlay (with crop marks) and put that over the lcd. -pete
  24. Sounds good. I gotta work till late evening tonight and friday. Perhaps I'll drive out there friday evening and check out the show on saturday. take care!
  25. I'm thinking about going. How are you getting there? -pete
