  1. Hi, My beaulieu 4008zm2 battery wont charge all of a sudden. When I plug in the charger (to the wall and into the camera) the orange light on the charger doesnt come on like it used to. The only way I can get the orange light to come on is to engage the power supply button on the handle. It's been couple of months since I charged the battery, but it was working fine. Any advice is appreciated.
  2. I figure its a time lapse thing, but can anyone tell me what they think the specifics were...... fps and time of model still then moving. http://community.ovationtv.com/kickapps/_B...3863/16878.html
  3. For a first camera, I wouldnt recommend spending too much money. The beaulieu is going to run you at least $400. I would suggest starting with a Canon 310xl and tri-x B&W film. This camera can be found fairly cheap on ebay usually under $30. The exposure system is fully automatic and it has a 1.0 lens, which makes it one of the most versatile cameras in its price range. The only draw back is you have to measure for focus....no focusing through the lens. Prices are pretty close to whats listed above, maybe a little cheaper if you go Kodak - film Paclab- Processing Cinelab- transferring As far as books and manuals, You can find alot of free downloads for camera manuals online check here for 310xl manual http://www.myoldcamera.com/Manuals.html I've never seen a book on super 8 film but this one is a very good introduction into filming in general http://www.amazon.com/Cinematography-Third...ef=cm_lmf_tit_4 Good luck and have fun. Film looks soooo much better.
  4. Soon I'll be shooting a short film using a Beaulieu 4008II and a canon 310xl. I'll be using the canon for the dimly lit indoor and outdoor night scenes using Kodak 500t. I'll be using the Beaulieu for daytime indoor and outdoor scenes using 200T for outside and 500T for inside. It will be my first time using theses color films. I have a spot meter, but I'd like to use the automatic features on the Beaulieu as much as possible. Now, from my earlier thread, I learned that I need to notch 500T for my canon to read correctly so; 1. Canon 310xl- Should I leave the 500t unnotched if the light is very low to purposely over expose or will this create problems in color and contrast? 2. Canon 310 xl- Do I need to notch 200t for correct exposure as well? 3. Beaulieu- 500T where should I set my asa speed on the camera for the automatic exposure to read correctly? 4. Beaulieu- 200T where should I set my asa speed on the camera for the automatic exposure to read correctly? 5. Meter- 500T where should I set my asa on my meter 6. Meter-200T where should I set my asa on my meter 7. Any advice on my choice of films/cameras for their respective settings? Thanks to all.
  5. Thanks guys. I'm gonna have to find a thread about how to notch a cartride w/o destroying it !!! I'm surprised to hear that kodak want it's 500 asa film rated at 250asa? I was worried about my Beaulieu only going up to asa 400, but I guess I'll just set it to 250 for best results with this film? How about the vision200. What I should I rate that at? Kodak website says 200 tungsten and 125 daylight?
  6. Can I trust that the light sensor on my Canon 310xl will meter Kodak Vision2 500T film accurately?
  7. Kodak 360 West 31st street 212.631.3414 open til 5. plus / tri x $10.59 64t $14.00 vision $15.15 PLUS TAX ya heard.
  8. Thanks for the reply. Yes, I adjusted the diopter exactly how it says in the manual, and yes I wear contact lenses. I'm near sighted. (like my camera!)
  9. Hello All, I just purchased a fine Beaulieu 4008ZM2 off of ebay. All the mechanical functions of the camera seem to be working properly, although I haven't run film through it yet. One thing I did noticed was, after adjusting the diopter to my eye, the Schnieder lens won't focus to infinity, with either ground glass in or out. With the ground glass out it's a little closer but most definitely NOT sharp. Anybody experienced this problem or know of a fix? Thanks.
  10. ok. I think I'll try the second route. I don't think I'll be doing any long shots like that (that have to be sync'd) Thanks again!
  11. Thanks to all for the info. I think maybe I should call the transfer place back and ask them why they said it would be "no problem" and everything would be in sync? I figured it would drift some, but i thought In editing i could line things back up and avoid parts that were way out (creative editing!) I'm going to try slowing it down and hope its close enought to work with. Also, I just bought a Beaulieu 4008ZM2. I know this shoots @ 24fps, but is it crystal sync speed? I don't think it is. Any idea how I would sync up for a music "video" or sound with this camera?
  12. I just returned from seeing a rough cut of a music "video" I'm putting together with a friend and we're both baffled that the footage seems to be speeding up in spots. It was shot with a canon 310xl (18fps), transferred professionally and then imported into final cut. i contacted the transfer house before i sent it and they assured me that the transfer would not change the speed of the film. I'm wondering if I have to use some specific frame rate when i import into final cut? I think it was brought in @ 29.97fps. My friend thinks it may be the camera because after shooting the video she took the camera to Asia and the footage (after transferring at a different transfer lab) seems sped up as well. But, I don't notice a change in exposure ? If the film was moving through the camera at different speeds wouldn't I notice a change in exposure? Thanks to all.
  13. Thanks Al, I guess there isn't really a need to compare, I was just inquiring about the proper settings to ensure no digital noise and contrast that matches my offline Quicktime file. Please explain this IRE setting, I cant seem to find it in the iMovie preferences. Do you set this upon importing or exporting? Thanks again, Stephen
