  1. I just do this and break it down to seconds of playback, you don't need a special calculator: FRAME INTERVAL (in seconds) x PLAYBACK FRAMERATE (i.e. 24fps) = REAL TIME SECONDS = 1 second of playback Sounds weird but here is an example: 1 frame @ 8 second interval x 24fps at playback = 192 seconds of real time (3.2 minutes) = 1 second So at 8 second intervals per frame with a playback frame rate of 24fps, its going to take me 3.2 minutes to get one second of footage. ;)
  2. I really like this one even though its really simple, sorry the frame is so small:
  3. Wow- Thats sad. However, This is a GREAT exapmle of total dumbass people in corporate who look at ways to make profit, yet forget their brand entirely AND assume their audience is dumb enough not to know the difference. Imax with out the "eye max" is going to end up in the trash- no hype can save that.
  4. I think going back to your original vision of b+w would make it so much better than orangey sepia! Directors these days.... Also, I like the song a lot but I just don't think it fits- the song feels like it needs color images to me. Nice effort though- I think if you would have directed it it would have been better! You got the shots you needed though and they look good- post issues aside. Thanks for sharing.
  5. "The Wrestler" & "Half Nelson".
  6. I don't know why people are hassling you. I'm guessing you just realized you can put money back in your pocket and rent a camera when you need too. No shame in that- hope you make a buck though on the sale- there is shame in selling something for less than you paid for it!
  7. I don't think 16mm is dying at all. What I do think is that the digital image is accepted, with all of its flaws and fallacies as a "film alternative". There are also many many new producers who may have never been around film in their life, they think that 16mm is an old gritty format because they don't know any better- but s16mm if destined for the small screen is visual superior in every way to the Red or any HD camera (in my opinion anyways). If you want to be shooting 16mm, you need to show more 16mm film originated material with a decent transfer to your clients- I just had 2 production companies "switch" from HD and Red to s16mm actually just after I showed them some pretty footage- and they aren't going back anytime soon.
  8. Hi Fran- I was hired to shoot a feature on the Red and I decided to buy a package and rent it to the production (rather than the money going to a rental house)- I always had the intent to sell it after- that way I pocketed an extra chunk of change! I would have never bought a Red if it wasn't for that one job- Now I just rent Red cameras when I need them because they are so cheap. The image is so sterile from the Red, I personally cant stand it- it needs to be heavily graded to start looking good. But super16mm (or any film) looks AMAZING right out of the box. The Aaton is more like a really fun temporary camera for me to learn shooting film on, I hope I am able to keep it for a long time though- this little aaton makes shooting a real joy!
  9. About the car interiors; I didn't light them- I think this worked out because it was such an overcast day. And my exposure was so long at night that the light from passing cars filled up my car. I did however overexpose the inside of the car by about a stop during the day. I heard from a friend that Media Distributors will spool aminima rolls for you (I think they may even do it for free if you buy enough stock from them!) I haven't tried it yet. Thanks for watching! I hope to actually shoot a project now with the camera! ;)
  10. Honestly, I was just glad to see that I didn't screw up too much as this is my first film camera. Glad you enjoyed it!
  11. Thanks for watching. I agree! My daughter is cute! :D To answer your questions, I used an illumina set from 8mm up to 50mm mostly at T2-2.8. And about the stroller rig; I used a full size cardellini clamp on the fork of the stroller, attached to a bogen magic arm with a baby pin adapter mounted to the top of the a-minima via the 3/8"-16 female screw on top of the camera. Thats one of my favorite things about the camera is that its so light you can utilize all kinds of lightweight rigging.
  12. I recently bought an a-minima from another fellow on this board. I put 600' through it testing it out and I am very happy with the results as well as the camera. It is such a fun unique camera to use! I tried to not to do a typical camera test- its more like a montage of bits of my life. Anyways, just wanted to share: http://vimeo.com/2804826 P.s. Cinelicious was great to work with on the telecine.
  13. "Fisher- ON ICE!" Now thats a great idea for a show.
  14. Canon Ae-1 program (silver) with plastic canon 50mm f1.8 lens. Gets the job done!
  15. Just a note that the price I listed isnt firm- make me an offer on it if you want it. I am just trying to recouple some costs on the set I bought. Thanks!
  16. Howdy- I bought a full set of the illumina and I really like them. I have been using the 8mm for fun, but I dont know how often I will use it on a "real" job because its very wide and the 9.5mm will suffice. But if you find yourself really wanting a wideangle- this is a great one for super16. This lens is in pristine condition, and looks new. The glass is super clean as well. I dont think you can buy these new anymore, you can get information on this lens at http://optarillumina.com/lenses/super16.html It sells for $3450 new, I am offering this lens for $2950 obo in as new condition. Please send me an e-mail to hunter@hunterhrichards.com if your interested. I also have pictures of it as well. Thanks! -Hunter
  17. Hi Aaron- Find the kodak sales rep for your area and give them a call (see motion.kodak.com) The prices are negotiable with your sales rep- it depends on the project, the stock and how many feet you need. Good luck!
  18. I have a set of illuminas that I use - I have been pretty happy with them. I do like the a-minima a lot though-even if its fuji prejudice!
  19. Right, "one" too many. ; ) I guess some boys do masturbate at that age, I'm glad you and your wife like watching them do it; but as for me, I don't want see children masturbating. Cheers!
  20. How do I describe Babel? I like the imagery, and how s16mm, spherical 35mm and anamorphic 35mm were used to add depth to each storyline. But I must say, Babel had one too many child masturbation scenes and vagina flashings. I think it would have been better without putting the viewers through some of that. But I guess that's how you "push the limit" as a director?
  21. In short, Yes. I had an adapter for this purpose. Because of the difference in FFD, the m42 lenses need to sit down inside of the mount about 10mm, and only a handful of lenses are skinny enough to sit inside of the PL mount adapter. There are a lot of older ziess mid-range and telephoto lenses that do fit though.
  22. I just spoke with a fellow from reelgoodfilm, who was more than helpful. The longer film is tested, but the short-ends are not- BUT they all come from reliable sources, they don't accept film from "off the street", its all from network TV, Hollywood films, Ect... I dont think you will see much difference from the re-sale stock compared to the factory fresh stuff image wise, most of the film they have there should be pretty fresh (and they should have anything your looking for in color neg). I am going to give them a try next week and order a few thousand feet. Want me to be your guinea pig? ; )
