  1. Just wanted to share a video I made as a present for my friend's birthday. Ten points for the first person to recognize the hat. http://www.vimeo.com/1710751
  2. Hey everyone, I think similar topics have been on the board before but I was hoping you guys could take a look at this clip and give me some advice: http://www.vimeo.com/1249039 I was testing out a macro setup for a good shot of the iris but as I expected the lens is visible in the eye's reflection. I was thinking about covering all silver surfaces on the lens with black velvet, but perhaps there is a standard method out there I'm just not aware of. The clip was shot on a DVX100b with a Letus Extreme adapter and a Nikon 50mm 1.4 Ai-s (fully open) reversed on a Nikon 105mm 2.8 (at f/16). There was one light source (standard desk lamp) held a few inches from the eye. You can also see some white paper under the lens in the eye's reflection. Thanks again for looking.
  3. That was great! You were right about the art department doing an excellent job the sets were gorgeous and your landscape and other long shots were some of the best I've seen on DV. Congrats!
  4. Quality pictures at every link I clicked here. Mine aren't quite as good yet but here they are http://www.flickr.com/photos/21515253@N04/
  5. I'm not a gifted professional, but that was excellent. I loved the high shutter throughout, you gave a ton of energy and created a lot of anticipation around the man in black. You have great control over POV and kept me hooked throughout the entire thing. I'd love to hear about the production. Congrats!
  6. Thanks for the compliment! Will anything ever top Similo for DVX quality though?
  7. Hey Jason, I'll repost these screen captures later here but I'm in a rush right now so in case I forget you should head over to this link http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=117734&page=3 and check out the before and after screen grabs. Happy 2008
  8. Sure thing Jason. The piece was shot on the DVX100B with the following scene file settings: Detail = -7 V. Detail = -7 Detail Coring = -7 Chroma Level = 0 Chroma Phase = 0 Color Temp = 0 Master Ped = -7 A. Iris Level = -3 Gamma = Cinelike Knee = Auto Matrix = Cinelike Skin Tone Dtl = Off V Detail Freq = Thin Progressive = 24P(ADV) The lights used were 3 standard 4ft fluorescents, which were either hung by their extension cords or leaned up against the wall. A piece of white foam board was used as a bounce for a few things. That's about it, other than the costume which is a Russian gas mask I got on ebay for about $6 and a British flight suit I found in the basement of a local army navy store for $30. Thanks for the comments!
  9. much appreciated feedback Greg! and yes, the glasses... the guys on the tables were a little pretty for animated corpses... i'm just gonna have to chalk that one up to the rejuvenating properties of fallout radiation. i'm searching ebay right now for a lens to go on my new letus and hope to post something interesting in the not-so-distant future for everyone to enjoy/critique (hooray xmas money!). -doug
  10. Yeah, the three fluorescents in the room were the only things I was using for lighting (with the help of a white foam board for fill where needed).
  11. Read this article today and thought it might be of use: http://www.theasc.com/clubhouse/tricks/tip-glf1.htm Good luck with the shot!
  12. Thanks Emile! Yes it was all on a DVX100b. I believe this camera is capable of much much more beautiful things and I hope exploit all of its potential. I got the stills by using Print Scrn with the editor open and pasting them into MS Paint then saving them as JPEGS. I shot everything in Squeeze mode and cropped it further 12.5% on top and bottom.
  13. Alex, thank you for your feedback! I try to make things that I'd enjoy watching myself, but knowing that someone else enjoyed my work gives me a great feeling of validation. I'm glad you liked it. The funny bit at the end will not be shown in class on Tuesday but was put in there to show to my friends back home. Still, if I'm going to be putting it up on the web and asking people for a critique of the piece I should probably edit it out. Thanks again.
  14. This version is hosted at a better quality: http://www.stage6.com/user/Ol23456789/video/1929752/
  15. This was a project for my Directing I class shot on a DVX100b. We were given a terrible script (on purpose) to work with as part of an exercise to make something out of very little. The movie had to be between 3-5 minutes and use the dialogue provided (except for one line you could add at the very end). I've uploaded the project to Vimeo, but something they do during the encoding process makes the footage look interlaced. If anyone has suggestions for better places to upload please let me know. http://www.vimeo.com/422593 The project is being turned in on Tuesday, so any and all feedback from you guys is extremely welcome. Here's the script: FADE IN: INT./EXT/ LOCATION – SOMETIME Descriptive lines… CHARACTER A What was that? CHARACTER B I think it came from over there. CHARACTER A Come on. CHARACTER B Check it out. CHARACTER A What the…? CHARACTER B Do something. CHARACTER A I don’t know… CHARACTER B Uh, oh… CHARACTER A (INSERT ONE LINE OF DIALOGUE HERE) FADE OUT
  16. I'm a big fan of your paintball videos and this one definitely sold me on the product. I didn't even notice the props weren't seen firing in the action segment, so good work cutting around that. The lighting on that first volley of shots from the X7 makes a very pretty spray. Focus stayed sharp even though it was dark out. Voice acting didn't bother me because I was too busy ogling the gun. Good stuff.
  17. My apologies if this question has been answered elsewhere, it seems like something that should be common knowledge. I want to mix slow motion (60i at 40%) footage with 24pa in Premiere CS3 within the same timeline. I believe Vegas and FCS2 can do this, but I'm not sure if it can be done in Premiere. My first tests yielded undesirable results. Thank you for your help.
  18. Sorry to reply so late. You're suggestion solved the problem. Thank you for your time and help.
  19. Hello all, I have an opportunity to use a friend's Arriflex-M this weekend with a 5.6mm (I assume fisheye) lens. My knowledge of lenses is limited to my experience with them on my Nikon D50 but I know focal lengths have differing fields of view depending on the size of the film or sensor they focus an image on. Does anyone know what a 5.6mm lens will look like on 16mm film? If anyone can point me in a helpful direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  20. Hey all, I've done most of my videos on FCP and cheap PC editors but recently got Premiere CS3 for my home PC and I'm cutting my first project on it. I would like to use keyframes (or any other viable method) to raise the brightness/contrast linearly from a few seconds into a clip until it becomes almost entirely white at it's junction with the next clip, which will start at a raised brightness/contrast and slide back down to normal exposure. I do not want to simply fade to white using the standard "Dip to White" transition but essentially I want the effect to be similar to that fade, just more organic. Here I have drawn a diagram of the effect I want with standard characters: "_/\_" Also, here's a picture of my timeline: And here's a computer augmented image of what the timeline might look like when edited for the effect I aspire to create: Thanks for taking the time to look at this.
