  1. Thanks a lot for your comments. I will attempt to do another trailer that is shorter and more to the point. Practice makes perfect! Denisse
  2. This is the trailer to my first feature film. I wrote, directed, shot and edited... It was done in Jamaica. Please tell me what you think. I worked really hard and want to know what others think before I move forward with it. Thanks for your time :-)
  3. Hi Jason, Thanks for your time. To explain a bit about my story Her life is boring... that was kind of the point. Do you have a suggestion on how to show that something is boring, without boring the audience, I will gladly take it into consideration since I am learning and it is my first. For me, it was kind of an artistic choice to show how these small things have great importance to her, so these mundane activities are magnified because she does nothing else but that.. I don't want to bore my audience though, but the story is about a woman who spends her life doing a boring routine. Denisse
  4. Hi Tom, I tried playing the audio without looking and you are right I noticed the sound issues even more. I will try to fix it. I'm however Ok with the dialogue especially at that part. Like you said there are infinite ways. I didn't want a silent film. the beginning had almost no dialogue. I wanted the film to be very visual and for the images to sort of carry the film to make up for the not so perfect acting. It's difficult to do a no budget and get everything you want. I was also shooting myself and I was the only person on set who had any knowledge. There are times when it was just me and one other person holding boom, who had never done it before, and if I needed the lights to change I had to do it myself. It will get better. I wanted to make a film and I did. Thanks for your time. Hi Denisse, A very good first effort. A couple things I would consider for your next project. Obviously everyone isn't the same, but I find it more interesting when things are shown instead of presented in the form of dialog. For example, when she mistakes the gentleman on the street for Mike. Another take could be for him to just shake his head and have the couple walk away after his wife asks, "who was she?" As a viewer I already knew that this woman was a tad strange and that she thought this guy was Mike. I would also clean up the audio and I have a suggestion that may help to do that. What I do if I feel like the audio isn't flowing on an edit, is to close my eyes, or turn off the monitor, and make notes to myself along the way-just listening to the audio. For example, "at point X, abrupt cut." One solution might be to do a short cross dissolve or set the level slightly lower for a specified time, 2 seconds for example, until the listener has time to adjust. Sometimes, you want that abrupt sound change depending on what you're trying to accomplish. You might be surprised what you notice when your eyes are not occupied. As I say these are only suggestions and you have a lot of great things there. Good Luck, Tom
  5. Thanks Steve, I noticed the issues with the sound. I can still fix it. Thanks for that tip on the filter. I'm not afraid of camera movement. I just felt that it was the best way to tell this kind of story. Thanks for your time. Denisse

  9. Thanks you so much. This is what I expected to hear. I just need something simple that will set me on the path to learning more. And will help me improve the quality of my work as a newbie :) I really appreciate that you all took time out to help. Denisse
  10. Hello Everyone, I'm interested in buying a lighting kit and I'm willing to spend $2000, $2500 if I absolutely have to. I am truly overwhelmed by all the information. There are so many kits, and I'm just starting out and hoping to get something versatile, and reliable. I took a lighting class and it only went over the basics of three point lighting so I figured that if I want to learn more I'm going to have to purchase a kit and get to it. Does anyone know of a kit in the price range that will work for shooting small projects? And that wont blow out my electricity? Some have 2 lights some, 3. and others 4. I guess the brighter the lights the more I have to work with right? but I'm not sure what is reasonable because I don't want to blow anything up, or not be able to use my kit because it requires too much power. So those are a few of my concerns. I want something that will get the job done, and not pose too many challenges to operate. I guess what I need to know is a good combination. Like a kit with a 1K, 650, and 300 watts is that better than a kit with 2 1Ks? What is a good set of lights? Ok ill quit writing now! Thanks a lot! Denisse
  11. Hello everyone. This was my first piece of work. I shot it in two days, no help just me and my camera and the actors, which I gathered from the neighborhood. Everything was kind of impromtu. I also did the editing. A one woman show. For that reason I'm proud that I did it, but I want to know what I could have done better. Thanks for your input. It was done in Jamaica so I hope you can understand the lyrics somewhat. Denisse http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=...ideoid=10562341
  12. I'm new to filmmaking and looking to learn as much as I can. I hope to one day make films like "Water" from Deepa Mehta. I'm truly inspired by the beauty and profoundness of her work. Here a link to the trailer I wonder if anyone knows how the cinematographer shot the night scenes. The lighting looks really soft. Almost like a candle light. Also I love the blue tint of the exterior night scene. Are there any white balance tricks anyone can share to give an interesting color like the blue to my work? Also shooting day for night. Can anyone help with how that can be done beliveably? Thanks for your time and help. Denisse
