  1. Thanks for the input Jon. I suspected that may be the case, but you know how it is when you're cutting a reel and you're looking at the same stuff over and over... after a while you just need fresh eyes.
  2. I just graduated in February so I've only shot a handful of projects, but any input would be appreciated. http://www.meganwoeppel.com/Reel.html
  3. Thanks guys this confirmed my initial instinct. I looked at using an adapter system, but I thought the loss of stops would be too much to compensate for in the lighting for the time and resources we have (95 page script, 12 day shooting schedule, ultra low budget). I just wanted to make sure there weren't any tricks out there that I didn't know about.
  4. I'm getting ready to shoot a feature with the Sony F900, and the director is asking for a grainy look. My first thought is to shoot it clean and add the grain in post, because I can't think of a good way to do it in camera. I don't want to up the gain and just add noise, that's different than what we're going for. Does any body have any other ideas for doing it in camera?
  5. Hey guys, I am potentially using a bullet-time system for the first time next week - it's a 50 camera system. I just found out that the director wants to use it and am scrambling to learn about it. Do you guys have any tips or links to good resources on this? Thanks!
  6. I've been really pulling to bring my own gaffer, but that hasn't gone over well. Thanks for all the input, it's really helping me know what to expect. Bruce - how has communication with your crew been? Do you speak russian, or do they speak english? If you (or they) don't, how are you communicating with them? Luckily I am bringing all of my own camera department, and the production is bring their own AD's, so we will work on the American system of slating and marking. Unfortunately I leave in 2 weeks, and the director and producers don't speak english very well at all, so the communication as far as my needs go has been very... difficult and limited. However, I am arriving a week before principal photography begins so I am hoping to go to the rental house, wherever that may be, and meet the people and go through all the equipment myself. Thanks again for all your help, it's really given me a lot to plan for and think through.
  7. Thanks guys. Unfortunately I don't know what rental house or city we are getting equipment from. We are shooting in the country of Georgia, but that's really all I know. I gave my equipment list to the director (a Georgian living and working here who wants to shoot there) because he is the only one who knows Kartuli or anything about the country. So I who knows if I'm even going to get everything on the list. Do any of you know if the lighting is the same? I've tried researching this but all the websites I've found have generally not been in english. I know they work on a European 220v system, but what about the actual lights? Are there 5ks, Kinos, etc, or do they work on a different system? Thanks again, you've given me really valuable info!
  8. Hey guys, I am DPing a film that is shooting in the country of Georgia (eastern europe). I am bringing my camera crew from Los Angeles, but my gaffer and the rest of my G&E will be local Georgians. We are getting most of our equipment in Europe (shooting on a Sony XD F350 camera). Do any of you have any tips for working with a European crew and dealing with the language barrier? I will have a translator on set, but I am still concerned with communication. Any tips or info you can give me would be awesome! Thanks, Megan
  9. It's a camera in the rental pool of a film school. They have had it in the rental pool for a little less than a year. I am definitely not trying to fix it on my own. The camera was sent to Sony for repair. I'm just trying to find out if anybody else has had this problem before. You say you had the problem 3 times... how often do you use the XD?
  10. I'm talking about the F350. It seems that every now and then, the screen will get stuck in the fully open position. I've found that if you push in the plastic piece at the base of where the screen is attached to the camera, it will close. But that seems like it would be a danger for breaking over time.
  11. I've been working with the XD camera the last few projects, and have come to to find the LCD screen tends to get stuck open. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a known design flaw with the camera? Any tips on how to prevent this from happening?
  12. Thanks for the replies, guys! Robert, I've worked with the F900 a lot, so I know exactly what you're talking about, and that video looked amazing. Thanks for the tips!
  13. Hey everybody, I am in prep to shoot a music video, and as the director and I have been discussion the look and style, one of the things he has requested is horizontal blue streaks. In the examples he showed me, they look like a form of a controlled lens flair. What I can't figure out is if this is done in camera somehow, or if it's something in post. In the examples, it looks like it's done in camera, but I can't seem to figure out how its' done. Any ideas? Here's a link to a music video with the type of effect I'm looking for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oI3LjzRmbHg Thanks!
