  1. Hi folks. I recently just finished shooting my second film. It's a short fictional narrative that takes place in the Asian metropolis of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. You can read all about the film, see production photos, director's message etc. a http://www.theglassboxmovie.com Would really love to hear your feedback. Thanks.
  2. Hey folks, Here is the website for my first Short Film. I had a lot of questions answered on this site going into the shoot and it was a great help. Thanks a lot. The film will be fully complete May 31st after which we will hope to have some success entering festivals. I hope you enjoy. Thanks again. www.theglassboxmovie.com

  4. Is it possible to edit in real time using Avid Xpress Pro with 720/24P footage? What kind of system would I need to do such? Sorry for the newbie question I am living in a foreign country and getting a direct answer is next to impossible. I am familiar with Avid but the production company only has Edius...and it's in Chinese! I am shooting in Taiwan so any way I can edit from home and not in the production office where everything in Chinese would be amazing. Any suggestions for a home set up would be more than appreciated. Please help!
  5. Hi, I am currently shooting a new film in 720/24P on the HVX200. I am a newbie so please bare with me. A production company in Taiwan is producing my film, and since I am Canadian and cannot speak Mandarin it makes the film process that much more difficult. They are using Edius as their editing system yet I am only familiar with Avid. Also their programs are all in Chinese. The producer has assigned a "helper" to get me familiar with Edius, yet he is proving to be more of a deterrent than helpful. I cannot not begin to tell you the immense amount of frustration I am experiencing and the time that is wasted everyday. My life would be a million times easier if I can edit on my own system from my home using Avid. My questions are: Can I import 720/24P avi clips from a Citidisk into Avid Xpress Pro? We tried the other day but when playing it back we just heard the audio. Am I missing codecs? I have tried searching but no avail. Any sort of workflow ideas to enable me to edit at home in English on Avid would be more than helpful. I cannot stress to you all enough how difficult things have been. Many thanks for any of your ideas/suggestions.
  6. Hi all. Just had a test shoot for an upcoming film. We were shooting a scene on a city rooftop, large neon sign in the background. (See pics below) Basically trying to acheive the lighting some of these pics are portraying. After reviewing the footage it's quite dark in spots and the features on the actresses face seem quite flat. We are shooting 720/24p Cine D, using the Redrock 35mm adapter with Nikon lenses. Any suggestions for camera settings and lighting setups would be most helpful. The majority of the film will be shot at night. The other main location is a stand where cigarettes and Taiwanese Betel Nut is sold. (again see pic below) Any suggestions for making the actresses features look more full would be much appreciated in these tricky environments. Many many thanks.
  7. is this all I would need to begin shooting on the Panasonic HVX200? Do I really need to get the M3 Complete package for 2400 bucks if I am on a restricted budget? What sort of limitations am I faced with that would be detrimental to achieving a shallow depth of focus and film like look with the M2 Indie Bundle. Thanks. M2 Indie Bundle - HD Edition for Nikon Lenses * M2 Cinema Lens Adapter * Special M2 HD Achromatic lens * 15mm Rod Support System - 18" * Nikon SLR lens mount * M2 Cinematographer's cap
  8. I figured it out. The CitiDISK HD supports all of the recording modes from HVX200 except 24pN due to such signal is not outputted to FireWire. ?24p? ? 2:3 pull down & ?24pA? ? 2:3:3:2 pull down are considered as 30p recording, user can select ?Tool?, ?Remove Advanced Pull Down? in Final Cut Pro to remove the excess frames. My question now is can I do a "Remove Advanced Pull Down" on Avid or Edius?
  9. I cannot get the camera to record to the Citidisk HD when shooting in 720 24PN. I can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. Matt
  10. I have been given access to a small production company's arsenal to complete a film in Kaohsiung Taiwan over the next month. We will be shooting on the Panasonic HVX200. I really want to get a 35mm adapter for the camera so I can get that cine look and have the depth of field the way I want. We have Nikon lenses and Redrock seems the way to go from what I have read. Any insights on the unit or others, ease of use, how quick they ship would be great. Also looked at the mini35 by teknik but can't find any prices. Any help or points in the right direction would be fantastic for this newbie. Thanks.
  11. I am shooting in Taiwan, where at night there is a lot of neon and florescent lighting. Will that assist the Panasonic or inhibit it? I haven't had a chance to test it out yet. Thanks for the feedback.
  12. Thanks everyone for your feedback. Any thoughts on shooting 1080HD 24P at night? A large part of the film will be shot at night. In Taiwan there are a lot of bright neon lights in the city but we are sure how it's all going to read. Haven't been able to go out and test shoot yet but if anyone has any suggestions for settings that would be most helpful. Again, thank you. Cheers
  13. I am going to be shooting a short in the next few weeks in Taiwan. The main set of the film is inside what is known as a "betel nut stand", a small nut that is chewed something a kin to chewing tobacco. Two actors will be talking inside the stand for the majority of the film. Taiwan is a noisy places and there are a lot of cars going by. Any suggestions on what type of mics/ sound setup would be recommended for this type of situation. Many thanks.
  14. I am going to be working on a film being shot in Taiwan in the coming weeks. I have the task of lighting two very dark Taiwanese apartments and a Betel Nut Stand. What is a Betel Nut stand you may ask? It's a glass booth trimmed with neon and florescent light that scantily clad girls sit in and sell "Betel Nut", something a kin to chewing tobacco. The majority of the film will take place inside this glass structure. The two actors will have a dialogue in the stand. Any suggestions for what I should use to avoid heating the place up too much and creating a soft light inside the stand would be much appreciated. I have attached a pic of a betel nut stand to give you a better idea. Cheers.
