  8. Hi, having a clear out, spare Heden motors available. These were used as backup / alternatives to Preston on a HU3 / MDR3 system. 1 X M26VE High Torque Spec 1 X M26VE Standard 3 X M21VE-L Range of accessories as in photos including, loads of standard gears (various gear pitch), wide gears, offset gears, oversize diameter gears, long throw rod brackets, 15mm, 5/8th PV and 1/2 inch insets, etc. Can also throw in a couple of motor cables too if needed. (note I have another photo of additional 19mm motor mount brackets which would't upload - in total there is 1 standard bracket per motor and additional 3 X long throw brackets.) Please Note, I no longer have the means to test these motors so can't report back on noise, etc. All I can say is they were working when I last used them. Would prefer to sell as one lot, but open to breaking up if not. Shipping from New Zealand Open to reasonable offers Any questions please ask. Thanks Ben Rowsell +6421999515

  13. Increasing the gear size on the follow focus will gear it up and give you less turn on the focus wheel relative to the lens. You want to go the other way and gear down (smaller) so that any given amount of turn on the focus wheel gives you less turn on the lens, to be more accurate. I believe the smallest gear available is 35 teeth. Another way is to use a 2 speed system such as on the FF3, and put it into slow gear. That will effectively extend the range of the lens. Try and get a FF with no lag or the marks will be well off as you change direction. The most effective way to do it as mentioned above by Satsuma is to use an electronic system that allows you to expand the range of the lens relative to the handset. This will be a lot more effective than gearing down a manual follow focus. Again, the smaller the gear size the better, so in theory something like a Heden M21, Preston DM4, or Cforce Mini with smaller gears will have to make more turns to get to the lens limits, so the resolution and accuracy will be a bit better than a standard motor Ben R
  14. "I really love that there is no extra weight on the Alexa (Preston brain)" "you will be happier and your back will live longer!" Something that is often overlooked: (apart from an Alexa Studio, as it is always a Plus camera) On other Alexas the Plus is heavier than a non-Plus: e.g. Alexa XT = 6.6kg, Alexa XT Plus = 7.3kg. Thats 700g more on the camera body to get the integrated system working, which is heavier than a 3 or 4 channel Preston MDR. There are also options for motors that are lighter than the standard Arri CML4s, etc. Even using the Arri UMC4 system (external brain) on a non-plus camera is significantly lighter. And you can run a single channel system for even less weight. Just saying. Ben R
  15. I've seen this on an F65 before. The DOP liked the way the camera/lens combo flared/bloomed in testing so we went with that package. Nobody thought too much about it until we got an additional 3rd party body in and it didn't flare in the same way. The conclusion was that the original camera bodies had previously been used on a show that had very high levels of oil based smoke FX. Over time the air filters in the front of the camera had become clogged and allowed oil to pass onto the optical block and leave a film of residue over the glass in front of the sensor. We left it for the rest of our shoot (as per DOPs request), but after the movie the optics were cleaned and filters replaced, and the image went back to "normal" I guess that the issue hadn't been picked up on the previous show as it had happened gradually over a period of time towards the end of the shoot.
