  1. Thanks Brian, yes I would think it would be best too but it is still something I would like to know since I like doing alot of still images mixed with motion in my project. I tried to find other posts on this subject but did not find any similar. If someone has a chart (macbeth or IT8 or some other with colours) shot on motion picture film I would be very happy to see it. thanks
  2. Hello everyone! This may be an odd question so I will be very happy if someone manage to answer it. If using still camera stocks by Kodak or Fujifilm to intercut with any of the motion picture stocks, which would have the most similar colour(especially in skin tones)? thanks
  3. Thanks again! I will have a look and see if I can find some pushed 200T footage then maybe I will use in-camera pushed film meeting DI half way, or something. Cheers!
  4. I would scan the 35mm film and color grade before printing. Do you mean lighting the same way they did back then?
  5. Thank you David! Your answer is very appreciated! I would guess that I should go with Kodaks Vision2 5260 500T to get a similar look of 5294 400T and Kodak Vision2 5212 100T for Kodak 5247 100T? Seems the colorimetry of the stocks has changed alot since the 1980s, am I right?
  6. Hello! I have watched a lot of great looking movies from the 80s and early 90s but cannot find out what stocks were used. Also I would like to know which stocks today would produce the most similar colors and contrast in comparison to the 80s and early 90s stocks? A few examples of movies are: *In the Name of the Rose *Young Sherlock Holmes (I think its the same stock as the above movie?) *Home Alone *Raiders of the Lost Ark - Indiana Jones *Blade Runner *Alien I had no luck finding which stocks were used for any of the movies. The day light in "the Name of the Rose" & "Young Sherlock Holmes" shows a hint of blue almost a violett hue while the skin tones are red, brown-red which I have not seen in any of todays footage. Does anyone know about these old stocks, names and which new ones get similar result? Thank you /Hed
  7. Thank you for your quick reply! I have thought about it too but the image is blocky/grainy in the whole image everywhere. Comparing the pictures the flashlight only has totally no artifacts whatsoever and will get me satisfied result. The flashlight - 40 watts combination gives me a total unwatchable sludge. I can show you a comparison if you like.
  8. Hello all, maybe I should have chosen the lightning forum to post in but since its the camera I have questions about I post here. I will film a short feature using the Sony (HDV) hdr-HC1E camera and the end result will be in black and white. The problem is the Sony HC1E requires a huge amount of light otherwise the compression will make the footage blocky/blurry and grainy as hell. I found out that filming in a even quite well lit up room with two big electric lights wont do better than a small diode flashlight in a totally dark room. In fact the small diode flashlight give me better and even acceptable footage, though it really wont light up as many or big parts of the room. The flashlight has a bluish/violet tint and I think this kind of light actually fools the compression somehow making it less blocky. I will use a steadycam to walk around in a house full of rooms and I need to keep the lights invisible as much as possible for the camera not to show any redhats and so in the footage. It will not matter what colour the lights have since the Film will be in black and white. I did some tests with 300 Watt working lights with and without blue tinted plastic sheets on but it did not help. The flashlight still gives a better picture but I need to spread the light more all over the rooms. Oddly enough if I shoot in an ordinary room with about four 40 watt lights in the ceiling plus the diode flashlight the footage is worse than with the flashlight alone. Anyone experienced this behaviour and how to solve this? Thank you in advance!
