  1. I can help you with either. Making an adapter or getting you the parts. GFS Lighting Repairs George Suarez 8216 Lankershim Blvd. #24 North Hollywood, Ca. 91605 818-767-6927
  2. All ballasts increase the voltage over the lamp rating. The globe itself is what clamps the voltage down to what the globe is design to run at. This is how you get the multi wattage ballasts. The easiest example is 12/18K, both run same head, connection, socket etc... the only difference is the globe. The 12K runs at about 160V and the 18K runs at 240V. The ballast provides 380V out. Both globe start running at about 30V and work up to the running voltage. From there the ballast will switch into 18K once it hits 190V with Arri and 200V with Powergems and Magnetic ballast or stay at 12K if it dosen't hit the voltage level.
  3. I run a HMI repair shop in North Hollywood called GFS Lighting Repairs. First: 1. Did you hear a loud thump sound when you hit the start button? Since this is a magnetic system you will hear the large contactor inside the ballast engage once you hit start. 2. If No. Then we are dealing with a safety loop issue and you can follow Guy Holts explanation. 3. If yes, then it was a failed strike. There are several factors that can cause a globe to fail a strike. But I'm thinking that by plugging the head directly to the ballast you provided it a stronger ignite ( more power since you get rid 50-100ft of resistance in the cables), this jump probably allowed the chemicals and metals in the globe to mix easier. Since it was a newer globe it might of just not been burnt in yet. If you ever need HMI help over the phone or countinue to have this problem. I offer free help. 818-767-6927 - George Suarez
  4. Sounds like a plan, I'll start asking around.

  6. There is a new flicker box that has came out in the last few months. It allows you to set almost any type of flicker, strobe, candle, etc.. you want including lighting flashs on HMI Units and or tungsten units. I dont know to much about applicational uses, cause I only repair lighting equipment. But contact www.Maccam.TV 818-780-5600 regarding there flicker box and ask for Jose or Mac. I'm pretty sure this will help you.
  7. Hi, I run a HMI Tungsten and Flouroscent repair center. We know most HMI's inside out. Since I've only work in the technician part of Lighting over the last 6 years. I dont know much about the actual application of usage in the field except for a book I read. I wanted to send one of my guys to a school to learn more about applicational use. I'm hoping I can start narrowing the gap between user and manufacture. Since I'm one of few that have direct contact with both end user and equipment engineers. Thanks ahead of time for any info.
