  1. Just wondering if any of you guys have mounted your little Beaulieu onto a rail system for lens support, matte box reasons... If you have, please share how you did your setup or where you brought it, because I'm not entirely sure which will work because of the 4008's angled hand grip. Thanks, Kane.
  2. No problems Dave, you have been a huge help, thanks :) If anyone else has had any experience with the Switar primes or other primes with filter thread of under 52mm, please let me know how they went. Thanks, Kane.
  3. Again, thanks Dave. Just one more little question, sharpness is good, but how do they fair in the colour depatment, are they very contrasty? Sorry for all the questions!
  4. Hey Dave, It seems I should have looked at the Nikon's instead of the FD's. The FD's are all bigger, well the ones I have anyway, with the smallest at 55mm. Maybe i should look at getting rid of my FD's and get some Switars... How sharp are the Switars compared with your Nikon's primes? Yeah, i guess connecting the two lenses is the best thing for both of them :P Kane.
  5. Almost all c-mount primes? Well how come 'almost' cant have Canon FD's in its category! Its a shame, since i already have a little set of them! Do you know of a good way to mount this lens infront of the main lens? Is there some type of rail/matte combination that would work out best with this set up? It would be great if the anamorphic didnt have to be wound onto the main lens, then I wouldnt have to re-centre it to make sure it was in the right anamorphic position. Thanks, Kane.
  6. Any idea of what lenses fit the description? I got the anamphoric in the post today and it looks brand new. Bigger and heavier than i thought it was going to be though. I suppose some support will be needed. Can't wait to be able to use this thing!
  7. C-Mount preferably, but i dont mind getting a mount adapter for other mounts if need be. Thanks, Kane.
  8. Hi Guys & Girls, Im looking for some primes or a decent zoom lens (for use on 16mm) with front filter size equal to or less than 52mm. The reason being i have recently bought an anamorphic attachment lens and want to be able to stick it in front, and at the same time not get any vignetting, or keep it to a minimal on a zoom lens. If anyone could suggest any, that would be great, as its hard to find any info over the old www with these specifics. Cheers, Kane.
  9. I think that is a better option, so i can use the same lenses with my 8 & 16mm cameras. Although, using the canon FD primes should work with 16mm too then, shouldnt they?
  10. No, thats great Will. Thats what i meant, so i guess im starting to grasp this. Thanks so much for the info. I guess using a lens that is designed for a larger format would be better for the smaller format as it doesnt get as close to the edges of the glass. Thanks Will!
  11. Ok. I see. Well i guess it doesn't entirely matter if the lens is of slr origin or not, it's just in slr terms, the canon fd's lenses are great in terms of quality/price, so i thought it would mean they would be great value for super8 too. Yep, i was going to stay away from the tv lenses :) I realise you were saying that for price wise. But do you really think that the old zoom lenses would be as good as a set of primes? Either way, when i do a film with my little beaulieu, ill make sure i bring my tape measure! Am i that new to the proper film world that it is as easy as saying the lens is for 35mm, and a number below it, as 8 & 16 are, would be covered?
  12. Thanks for the reply Will! By adapter, i suppose you mean a simple mount adapter, like C to FD, and not a optical device such as a dof adapter. Yep. Wide angles is definitly something i'm looking for. Buy why do you say from 6mm? Technically speaking, why cant it be less? I can see the compact aspect being good, but my aim is to get the little s8mm frames a little shaper than what can be achieved from the old zoom lenses found on the cameras origianally. And one more; will all lenses cover the super duper 8mm? If not, what ones do i stay away from?
  13. Hi Guys & Girls, One question: can i use slr lenses on the c-mount of the Beaulieu 4008? For example, the Canon FD lenses? Those primes are fairly decent and cheap (compared to other cine primes anyway), its just im not 100% sure if they are compatible? By that i mean optical, not mounting compatability. Or do i have to stick to specific cine lenses? Cheers, Kane. By the way, a big thanks to everyone that contributes here, i find it very informational, since coming from hd/dv to film :) Thanks!
  14. The 4008 ZM II i brought came with a Schneider Optivaron 1.4/6-70 mm. I want to get the camera converted to SD8/MAX8 and put an anamorphic attachment on the end such as the Iscorama 42, but Bjorn Andersson said that the 1.4/6-70mm would have big vignetting problems. Do you think that the Schneider 1,8/6-66 would eliminate the vignetting problems? And do you know if the Iscorama 42 would fit the Schneider 1,8/6-66?
  15. I'd imagine the newer lenses would be able to do more than the oldies. So any of these newer lenses from the xl1/xl2 would fit the 4008? If not, what characteristics do these lenses need to have?
  16. Thanks for the reply :) How does one know if it will protrude beyond the mount? Is there any measurements on the lenses / camera that would tell me this? There are sooo many lenses on places like ebay that its a hard to figure out what one would fit the cam. I also have a adapter that will take Canon mounted lenses, but even with this info i havent got much of a clue what ones will fit it.
  17. Hi guys, im new to the film world, been living in a digital realm, but im trying to change, i promise :P I got a question, fairly newby question, but i keep searching and cant find a answer that will sink it into my brain lol. What lenses fit the BEAULIEU 4008 ZMII. When searching for lenses from online shops and places like ebay, what characteristics does it need to fit this cam? I have heard it takes any c-mount lenses too, but im unsure about this suggestion. Thanks for the help in advance, and this website helps alot for people new to the film realm, Cheers, Kane.
