  1. Was thinking of getting some uv tubes for Kinos but in searching the forum i read some alarming safety warnings. I believe having uv (blacklight) bulbs on set is similar to being in the sun, anyone know if thats true or is it worse? And anyone know why your vision goes blurru when you look at uv tubes? Also would 4 tubes (in a Fatman Kino) be enough to shoot midshots of a subject with uv bodypaint? Im thinking 4 or 8 should be enough (no other lighting in scene (unless some hmi with Congo Blue style fill would sell the gag more). Ta
  2. Ah boo! First you give and now you take! I cant afford anything. Bugger.
  3. I found a second hand head! Wheres that 6k? I want it! (and the ten grand to pay for it!)
  4. REALLY Matt? Great! I was gonna buy all new 75w. Ill just keep the 40w. Sweet.
  5. DUMB question im sure, but i was just changing tubes and realised i dont know 1) why Kino tubes come in 2900. Why not just 3200? Does 2900 offer something im missing? 2) why do Kino do 40w and 75w versions of the same tube? Wouldnt everyone want 75w? Go ahead and tell me why im dumb.
  6. Yeah i know! They just do arri style ones. The old Leonetti Sunray ones are much smaller and lighter than most hmi (but not a very big eye sadly). I think i remember from Rescue that Simon has a Sunray 6k you can lift with one hand!
  7. Yes, their 1.2s and 2.5s are a differebt design. Arri style. The original is smaller and lighter.
  8. Sunray lights are AWESOME. Leonetti Sunray. Id really like a 2.5 head. Anyone know where to get one? I assume the conpany is closed in us and the name has been bought out?
  9. Looking for a Sunray head. Hard to find. Particularly want a Sunray as its very small. Anyone wanting to sell one please look me up! Can be Without ballast and cables. Thanks!
  10. Anyone heard of a Badger Dolly? Its a doorway dolly with seats and euro mount risers and bowl. I know nothing about it and an wondering about its provenance. mine has track wheels but on the brochure it shows changeable axles with pneumatic wheels which id love to get. "Dirk Mostert" in South Africa is listed as contact, who i believe is a South African DP but i cant get hold of him. Any info WELCOME! Anyone got any leads or ever heard if it?
  11. I like that one too Sanjay! Thanks!
  12. I geuss other useful features would be a green or blue screen option and the ability to mix colours on different parts of the screen and maybe a way to put blacks into the screen, ie to reduce the lit part of the screen. Maybe its easier to just get one programmed? But surely someone else already did it?
  13. Ima buy 2 cheap tablets and 2 cheap smart phones as no budget car kit. Anyone know an Android app (like Catchlight on IOS) that would let me control colour and brightness of the tablet/phone screen? Ideally it would have "daylight" and "tungsten" equivalent presets and a state memory, i just donr know how to search to find such a thing.
  14. I still dig the system and im gonna use it. Ill just name the sizes as well. Maybe ill name them after movie stars? Fatty Arbuckle to Woody Allen?
  15. From Wkipedia. Geuss i should have googled before asking. I thought city names described sizes and orientation, but sounds like its just orientation. Disapointing. ""Often when a Grip is placing an Apple Box others are lifting something heavy to put on top of it, thus arose the need for terms describing what position the Apple Box should be placed in (i.e. which side of the Apple Box should be placed face-down). It is rare that these terms are used for anything other than the "Full Apple" size. LA: Positioned so the Apple Box is resting on its largest side. 8" tall for a full apple. New York: Positioned so the Apple Box is tallest, 20" high. Texas/Chicago: Positioned so the Apple Box is on its longest narrow side, 12" high.""
  16. Thanks kids! In Australia we have nesting sets. Im sure he said "LA" as well. And a tall one on its side had a different name, so youd know which box to bring and which orientation. Which is more useful than "get a large applebox". How would i find the wiki?
  17. Did a show with a US DP in australia who asked for appleboxes by size using a US system. Called boxes LA (Los Angeles) and other city names, so youd bring the right box in the right configuration. Is that a standard thing? If so what are the names? I like the system and wanna use it. He was a bit of a dick so it could just be a bullshit student thing.
  18. Thanks. Thats interesting. Normally do jazz hands/spirit fingers in front of lamps here for a tv gag but it seems fake to me when i do it. I see tv as 2-3 levels of blue light/moving shadows in reality. Maybe a bounced projection would be most effective. A tv gag light all in one in a box would be nice to make. Ill put it on the list.
  19. I want to make some gag lights to complement my existing lighting gear. Im in 240v land. There must be a million nice gags but i only know a few and im looking for inspiration. I love all the old school gags and methods and interesting gear named after DPs or gaffers. What have you seen onset or heard about that seemed useful? Ive been through the forums and thought about Covered Wagons, Deakins style prac battens etc etc but what other cool little things can i get or build?
