  1. I still have two Schmitzer printers in daily use, and wouldn't think of running them dry. There must be dozens of dry Model C's on the market, a couple months ago I dismantled one for scrap (keeping the good bits for spare parts).

hello, I wonder if you have a FCC or an old tape reader for a Bell & Howell C printer with electromechanical light valve.

    thanks

  2. PROFESSIONAL CINEMATOGRAPHY MASTERS COURSE

    WHO IT IS FOR

The Masters course in Professional Cinematography of the Laba and the Movie and Sound Firenze srl (www.movieandsound.it) is a top level artistic training for graduated from related subjects.

    WHERE

Classes are held at the LABA of Florence in Piazza Badia a Ripoli 1/a-.

The practical and theoretical practices are held at the studios and Motion Picture Laboratory of the film production center of Florence, Movie and Sound Firenze srl . N.10, Fornaccio way, - Loc. Vallina, Bagno a Ripoli - Florence

    GOALS

The aim of the course is the preparation of a technical-professional figure able to provide the author the different expressive possibilities that cinema allows. The master will be built entirely around the stages of film production using the film medium as prevalent. Will highlight the difference between digital media and otherwise. Students study the Workflow of a film production and post-production and the use of Digital Intermediate. We discuss the sensitive materials and their constitution, explaining what happens by exposing a film, the action of the exposed emulsion and development.

    PROGRAMME

The program is divided into two phases.

The first is devoted to intensive hands-on instruction demonstration, practical trainings of all the technical aspects of filmmaking, cinematography, camera operations, directing, sound recording, editing and film producing.

The second phase of the program is the production period during which every student writes and directs his or her own film in 35mm. Students are separated in groups and each group becomes a rotation crew for each of the projects. In this way a student not only has a show reel but also works in crew positions on his or her colleagues film and gains invaluable experience rotating in the the principal production positions as writer, director, producer, director of photography, assistant camera, gaffer, sound recorder or editor.

At the end of course the final films are celebrated in a screening open to cast, crew, friends and family. All students who successfully complete the master receive a copy of his or her final film in 35mm.

  5. In our lab every day before starting to develop we do all bath tests and PH test, we use kodak sensitometric pre exposed

control strips for Kodak films and the Fuji pre-exposed control stips for Fuji films, to check our solutions, then if every

thing is ok we do a test with the negative we have to develop, we cut a 10cm piece from the roll and we do a

sensitometric test with Kodak sensitometer we have and we develop it, we have a ref for every tipe of negative

(kodak, Fuji, ORWO,...) and we can check if the neg is ok or not, if it's ok we develop it

if not we contact the client before developping. as the program of Image care of Kodak every lab has to do these tests.

  6. Hi,

i don't know about the negative and processing costs in US but our lab in Italy has a agreement with Kodak to give good prices

for negative, processing and telecine to encourage filmmakers to shoot in film and not degital, our price for negative Kodak 5260 + processing and telecine

is 1,45€ per meter (for shooting 1 hour you need 1700 meter of negative), in Italy this is a very good price, i'm not sure

    about L.A.

you can check our lab: www.movieandsound.it

    Hi everyone,

I have a feature in development with a budget from $75,000 to 90,000 and was wondering if on this budget one could shoot on 16mm or 35mm: raw stock, processing, and telecine? Thx in advance!

Hello everybody. I need some help and I hope you could help me.

My name is shay. I live in Israel. I am 25 years old. I just graduated a BFA degree from Sapir College in southern Israel. It is a good school and I had a lot of experience in many cameras: Sony Z1, DSR 400, 450 and I shot a 40 min 16mm film. I learned a lot, not just cinematography, but I want to master cinematography.

Please don’t tell me I just need experience in film sets because I have it, although there is very little film's in Israel. And the budget is always very low.

Learning abroad is a dream for me and I will do anything to fulfill it. I believe that I am good and talented for any school. I want to find a good school that will let me master in cinematography only.

I know English and Russian. And I don’t mind the location of the school as long is it's a good school.

    Will you help me?

  10. Hi Eugene,

If you use neg 200T and you have the correct exposure it won't be very grainy but if you underexpose

it and you want to correct it in telecine you will see all the grain specially in darker zone,

for processing and telecine you can try Movie and Sound in Italy, the price is 21,50 euro

for processing and telecine in DVD or MiniDV, they do color correction too with Davinci and they

post you where you want, they sell also all S8mm films.

if you don't want to see the grain you can ask the lab to use digital noise reducer.

    Hi,

I'm in the process of preparing to shoot a short film of mine and wanted to shoot some scenes on Double-X and plus-x (reversal), but the only problem is that I don't live anywhere near a store that sells super 8 film. I don't know how much I want to purchase off ebay because: 1. I don't need that much film 2. Budget is micro and 3. It's not much cheaper than full price.

I've looked Bhphoto.com and they only sell reversal film, but I was wondering if there was a place (other than Kodak directly) I could get all my super 8 needs?

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hi Everyone.

I am looking for cinematography and lighting workshops (especially in film), anywhere in Europe. Does anyone know of schools that teach in either English, French, or Spanish? I'm looking for a really intensive hands-on sort of thing, with a good technical level. Not a full-time school. Anything from a week to a summer.

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

I would like to know your opinion on any workshops, short courses and any kind of cinematography education that could help develop a career in cinematography (I'm a 26 tv camera operator, who also works steadily as an assistant camera and gaffer on shorts, music videos, ads and some features). I've already spent 2 years on a media degree, and attended some workshops (steadicam, assistant camera...) here in my country. I also have a background (+5 years) on postproduction and editing.

What I'm looking now for is a way to continue my education (I keep shooting a lot of tests, anyway!). I've been toying with the idea of enrolling at LA Film School, or NFTS (If I ever get accepted), but spending 2 years full time I'm afraid could somehow slow down my career here...

So, I'm looking for quality short courses and workshops (weekend to 4 months) I could enroll to develop my cinematography skills. I'm looking for english or spanish courses anywhere in the world, and already found about the Maine workshops, the LFS Short courses and NFTS at London... Any other ideas I can add to the list?.

    Thank you!

    Jose
